Simply put, this game will define this program in the future. There are very serious rumblings concerning getting rid of the program completely. I am from Birmingham and there has been a lot of buzz and support coming from what few fans we have regarding this game. The weather is going to be perfect. People are doing all they can to get some fans in the seats. I realize I don't have any stats backing anything up - this is purely circumstantial - but sometimes that is more important than stats. If UAB gets blown out this program is history. I expect these guys to play well enough to stay in the number. Look for UAB to play their best game today.

Damn. I've been riding Marshall and I hate to go against my cash cow. How about the over? I know UAB can score.

I'm playing the over too. This game is just too huge for UAB. Definitely one of the most important in its history. If Marshall doesn't knock them out really quick this one will be close to the end.

Marshall is not a 1st half team. They tend to bring out the steamroller in the 2nd half.

I like the over more but I put a small play on Marshall -20... Just to many distractions with the uab program....if they don't come out focused it could be over in the 1st quarter

I agree about the 1st q. If its close after one it will be close all day.

UAB will get their points and cover today. This will probably be the best offense Marshall has played all year.

the game means nothing to the UAB program in big scheme of things. Whatever the UA board of trustees decides to do is a)likely already decided and b) won't matter if 32k show up and UAB plays them tough.

i'll be watching and rooting but IMO the football team has already been dropped after the 2015 season is played and that was furthered by the news of the board approving a soccer stadium...something they blocked for the football team (in addition to blocking Jimbo Fisher hire 8 years ago). Also their failure to sign UAB to play Bama and send $750-900k just 40 miles away to a sister school, and instead send it out of state to shit like Western Carolina and Georgia State and UL Monroe is more evidence of their desire to see UAB football fail.

I do think we have a really good shot to stay within 3 TD's....

why would they not want a football program?

i'll say the only time I saw them play this year-when they routed UNT-they did not look impressive offensively at all. their D was handed some turnovers, but they looked pretty inept overall.

if you saw them vs WKU, Miss St, Troy, etc you would feel differently. Outstanding running game and they take a lot of chances deep down field. Very up and down...think it was FAU game where they had like 340 yards in one half then 70 in the other.

you'd have to ask the UA board of directors why they feel threatened by a successful UAB program... UAB competes (and always will) with Troy and So Bama for recruits, not the Tide and the barn, and even if UAB got to Boise status as a mid-major would not threaten Bama's attendance. Never understood it myself but if Jimbo was hired (and all they had to do was approve the contract) they might have had a great recent run. Coaches right now are terrific, especially OC and HC, but would think they are keeping their phones on the hook waiting for the next gig.

don't know the inner workings of big time football but perhaps this is why a lot of satellite schools don't have big programs. Most of them are just stuck in the sun belt or cusa

Subject: The Future of UAB football
Good morning all. As you have probably heard, the future of our football program is in doubt. My understanding is that a decision will likely be made within the week as to whether we will continue to field a team. It is imperative that we show support right now if we hope to continue the progress that has been made this year. I would ask each of you to send an email to President Watts, Brian Mackin and Chancellor Witt expressing your desire for the continuing of UAB football. I am including their email addresses below. Thanks and Go Blazers.

President Ray Watts- president@uab.edu & rwatts@uab.edu
Chancellor Robert Witt- witt@uasystem.ua.edu
Brian Mackin, athletic director - bmackin@uab.edu

ties into something i think about.... why doesn't Los Angeles have a 3rd NCAAF, say in the MWC? i am guessing that these types of teams just wither in a big fan market in the shadow of behemoth program(s). and maybe players not good enough for UCLA would rather go to fresno/utah/colorado/etc. rather than play for some mediocre program in LA (i.e. it looks like maybe they chose to leave LA instead of UCLA. but everyone would know they didn't choose cal-state fullerton over UCLA).

thinking birmingham is a major city (not LA obv) right in the heart of crimson tide country (alabama plays - played? - games in birmingham itself)..... but if a team is 200 miles away from alabama in a small town that's completely different).

football takes so much commitment..... basketball you can do it with 2 excellent players.

Bird, ever heard of San Diego State?
Exactly. under 100 miles away. L.A. already has a junior team when it comes to football. That is UCLA. USC is still the team that runs Los Angeles. They are still the team that sells cheap seat nosebleed tickets for a 7-4 USC team playing a 7-4 Notre ame team for $150.00 per ticket, and they will sell out. One other thing. Comparing ANY Alabama city, or the entire State for that matter, to Los Angeles is a bit of a joke. Alabama's estimated population for 2013 is 4,813,000. The City of Los Angeles alone has 3,884,000 and the County's population is 10,017,000, which is the largest county population in the nation, and would rank 8th overall in the nation if it were it's own state. Apples and Oranges here.
