U.S. Population On Track for 1.182 Billion

In the year 2000, the United States Bureau of the Census issued three population projections for the United States. To the best of my knowledge, these are the most recent projections that go up to the year 2100:

<TABLE border=1><TBODY><TR><TD width=50 align=middle>Year </TD><TD width=100 align=middle>Middle Series </TD><TD width=100 align=middle>Lowest Series </TD><TD width=100 align=middle>Highest Series </TD><TD width=100 align=middle>Zero Immigration</TD></TR><TR><TD width=50 align=middle>2009</TD><TD align=middle>297,436 </TD><TD align=middle>290,018</TD><TD align=middle>307,060 </TD><TD align=middle>286,322</TD></TR><TR><TD width=50 align=middle>2100 </TD><TD align=middle>570,954</TD><TD align=middle>282,706 </TD><TD align=middle>1,182,390 </TD><TD align=middle>377,444</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

So, on which trajectory do we find ourselves? The Highest Series.
The Census Bureau's "Highest Series" projected the population of the United States would be 307,060,000 on July 1, 2009.
So, what did it turn out to be? The Census Bureau now estimates that we hit 307,070,000 people as of that date. That means we are almost precisely on the Highest Series trajectory. And that means we are on track for a population of 1.182 billion persons in the year 2100. For comparison, India currently has a population of 1.16 billion, and China 1.3 billion.
The United States reached a replacement level fertility rate of 2.1 children per woman in the year 1972.
The majority of population growth since 1972 has been due to post-1970 immigrants and their descendants. They will account for nearly all of our population growth the rest of this century. Not that immigrants are bad people, but they tend to come from cultures where the women have a lot of children. The United States is on track to add its next 100 million people faster than any nation in the world except for Pakistan and India.1 The U.S. population for the year 2100 in a scenario where immigration is halted (the “zero migration series”) is for 377 million persons.
Your membership in NumbersUSA is essential to making sure that the United States does not become as populated as China or India. The immigration bills that you helped defeat in 2006 and 2007 each would have increased legal immigration to 2 million per year, and the legalized illegal aliens would have been entitled to bring in their extended families, who in turn would have been entitled to bring in their extended families in a snowballing process of virtually unlimited chain migration. There would also have been a guest worker program, and children born here to guest workers would have been U.S. citizens under current interpretation of the law. A population of 1 billion or more by the year 2100 would have been virtually locked in by either of those bills. This is a scenario that was completely outlandish even 15 years ago, but is now a distinct possibility if you do not make your voice heard.

By the year 2100, it's almost certain the current North American continent, including most Central American countries, will be operating under some form of unified government.

So any projections about the "population of the USA" seem rather mundane, eh?

Uh er sorta somewhat maybe........... None of us will be around in 2100 but we can do something about it now if we work together to stop the article from becoming the nightmare.... Ive seen the population increase progress in the significant increase in the amount of traffic on the roads since 1983 when I started traveling 48 states & I can only imagine what a 90 year old can tell us about the overcrowding they've seen in their lifetime.

I've no fear of the "nightmare" for the reasons I stated in my previous post. The USA as we know it today will not exist by the year 2100. More people will migrate south to warmer weather and those who continue to live within the zone we currently define as the USA should get along just fine.

BTW, I don't happen to be one who instantly concurs with the statement, "We won't be around in the year 2100"

Continued advances in science and medicine could well lead to human beings living for much longer periods.

:ohno:
Grow up and except reality, no one currently posting on this forum will be alive in 2100. I never use the term lock when handicapping (it’s bad juju), however this isn’t handicapping.

I believe you believe that.

I would agree with you, "except" that I happen to "accept" the reality that the human race is in a constant state of evolution. It would be preposterous for me to put my foot down and claim I know for sure what will be going on in 2100.

I'm sure that many people alive in 1910 would have told you the earth was flat and that life expectancy was about 50 for most people, because it was a fact at the time.

And though I might or might not be in my current form when 2100 arrives, I could well be hanging out in 2060, 2070....both years in which the supposed horrifying growth in population will be on the same alleged track.

Does bring to mind that last month when the World's Oldest Man died at age 113, there were rumors that during his final two years he kept receiving daily phone calls from the World's Second Oldest Man, saying just one word.
