Well, for starters, get or seek access to media that isn't under corporate/Pentagon influence.

I am not saying that people are walking blind, simply that much of the support for this war has indeed been manufactured through wordplay and disinformation.

 

RFC,I truely believe the majority of the Iraqi people do want a regime change.However there is I imagine there are still a great many fanatics that would be against the liberation of Iraq especially by the US.

no. I do not. However, I would say that I am better informed than a good majority. Why? Because I my job allows me the time to search for many other fonts of information.
I fault the mainstream media for not presenting the stance on war as truthful, but rather as a glamorized form of entertainment.
I do object to this type of cyberspacial witch hunt whereby you target me as a traitor to the troops simply because I refuse to view all individuals as being representative of the good intentions of the many.

Judge, regarding the Iraqi people's wishes for liberation, I don't think that this ever was a question for the US to decide. I myself would fight a foreign invader tooth and nail no matter how evil my country's ruler. This is the principle behind all acts of patriotism: That it is better to have your own evil than another's benevolence.

Where is a bus full of women and children going during this war with a male driver? My guess is that the male was ordered to ignore orders by military troops for the sole purpose of endangering these women and children and forcing the marines to open fire. Such publicity is plenty of fuel for the anti-war, 'what about the women and children, crowd like grant who was probably drooling at the mouth to post this on the site.

These were probably the women and children of iraqi men who refused to fight and were kidnapped and sent to there death.

This topic is a fine example of people jumping to conclusions without any real knowledge of what happened either way. It's no wonder I'm getting tired of reacting to them.

A lot of us have become instant experts on events that have happened half a world away and have barely been reported upon, due to our biases. This is ridiculous, but it is to be expected and is a primary reason I'm only coming in every few days, so past events can be followed up on and perhaps I can get a better idea of what happened, as well as just to not try to argue the whole war over every single American and Iraqi death.

I agree Jazz. We simply don't know one way or another what we really happened here and whether it was justified. However, justified or not, the one thing that is unfortunately clear is that this occurrence is extremely unfortunate and doesn't help anybody's case other than Saddam and the extremists. It only helps to fuel anti-American sentiment, rightly or wrongly.

The U.S ranks practically last of industrialized nations in education.
I ****ing guarantee nowhere near 70% of Americans even read one book a year. So how informed do you really think they are. I agree the mass unwashed of America support the war but they are clueless followers. I would be more swayed if the majority of the U.S. elite and highly educated supported the war but 70% of Americans. It’s been proven time and time again the Americans are not the most knowledgeable bunch in the world. Only 6% can find Iraq on a map.

Just reading the ap or reuters report without hearing it through the networks is enough in some cases. I have read wire reports and later on have seen them on US tv. What a difference in word choice, delivery, tone etc. These things DO matter.

I live in CR, US citizen, and I have lived in Spain and travelled a bit (very little) in Morocco (a fact that might put me on a watch list due to the fact that I have passport stamps in arabic

).
Generally, most people in the world look at politics differently than we 'gringos'. They see it as having more of an effect in their daily grind.
I would answer your question both ways, yes and no. Yes in that they know more about what their govt. is up to (whether they act to change this is a different matter) and are more concerned, more conscious politically. However, if we are talking population in proportion to those who have a higher education, the US and Europe top the list.
