Georgia Republicans are doing their best to keep people from voting. Here's how we can stop them

Republicans are doing everything in their power to ensure that there is no “blue wave” in November. From a stolen Supreme Court seat to spreading conspiracy theories and outright lies about Democratic positions and policies, the GOP is hunkering down on white supremacy, anti-blackness, and patriarchy—and it looks like they won’t be stopping any time soon.
Georgia is becoming ground zero for their efforts. Faced with the possible election of the state’s—and the country’s—first black female governor, Georgia Republicans are doing all that they can to prevent Georgia residents from voting for Stacey Abrams. Journalist Greg Palast has been on the case for the last three years for Rolling Stone and Al Jazeera. He’s been investigating Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp that whole time, who also conveniently happens to be Abrams’ Republican opponent for governor. Palast discovered that in 2017 alone, more than 750,000 people were removed from the state’s voter rolls. That’s nearly 1 in 10 of the state’s voters!
According to Raw Story, only 200,000 of those people are legitimate cancellations. These include people who died, are incarcerated and can’t vote, and have moved out of their districts. Still, as Palast notes, the methods used to purge these voters from the books is suspect and serves to directly benefit Kemp.
“What we are finding is that he has conducted an illegitimate process and which seems to be furthering his interests in running for governor as a Republican against [Democratic candidate] Stacey Abrams, who would become the first black female governor in America if she wins.”
Palast has made numerous attempts to contact Kemp about his voter suppression efforts. Kemp has not only dodged these questions, he also had Palast kicked out of a campaign event. And since Kemp refuses to be forthcoming with information, Palast has created a website for Georgia voters to check and see if their names have been removed from the voting record. It can be accessed here.
Voters can enter their names and if they don’t find it, there is information provided to help get their vote restored.
But here’s some important information: The deadline to register (or re-register) to vote in Georgia is Tuesday, Oct. 9. If you are a Georgia resident and are eligible to vote, please make sure to check your registration and if you aren’t already registered, sign up to vote.
After that, be sure to vote for Democrat Stacey Abrams for governor. Georgia deserves better than a governor who would cheat by intentionally removing hundreds of thousands of voters from the rolls in order to keep them from voting. In 2018, we must stand up to Republicans and tell them that it is unacceptable for them to ignore the will of the people.
