The Miami Heat re-signed guard Tyler Johnson for four years and $50 million in July.

That's a lot of money for a 24-year-old (or anyone), a fact that did not escape young Johnson.

According to Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel, Johnson said: "I threw up a couple of times when I heard the number go out there. I was in shock."
Johnson tested the waters of restricted free agency, but the Heat ultimately opted to match the Brooklyn Nets' offer for Johnson.

"It's a great feeling to know that you're wanted somewhere. They showed me how much they wanted me to be a part of the organization by matching," he added, per Winderman.

Johnson has averaged 21.6 minutes and 7.4 points per game in two seasons with the Heat.

This is why I am done with the nba. The stupid fans are the ones that pay this contract. Ticket prices are through the roof. After all star game pulled out of Charlotte I am fully boycotting the nba.

Not really, just like in MLB it's mainly big time TV money that pays these salaries. Ticket prices keep going up just like they always have and always will do, but it's not like ticket prices are doubling to afford these outrageous contracts. TV money has gone up and the cap has gone up, this has nothing to do with ticket prices.

I understand it's tv money too but have you seen how expensive nba tickets are? Hundreds of dollars per ticket to sit in the lower level. This guy is a scrub for 50 million dollars.

I got news for you...tv money is paid by us indirectly....they then charge advertisers more, who in turn, raise their prices to cover the cost...therefore your Gatorade, etc cost more

like when the YES Network forces local cable companies to increase rates to help cover the Yankees payroll

This free agency period was crazy with the new contracts. However the NBA now has a crazy salary cap and there is a floor where u MUST spend at least 90% of the cap. The nets signed Johnson to a 4 year 50 mil deal. The HEAT had 7 days to match the offer. I am a HEAT fan and happy that they matched the offer. Its a very friendly cap number for the first 2 years of the contract.

However, this is crazy $$$ to throw at someone.

BTW, it sux that Wade is gone but it was the right decision for the team
