CALGARY –1½ +1.73 over Minnesota
Both teams have injuries. For the Wild, Marion Gaborik, Marc-Andre Bergeron, Owen Nolan and Kurtis Foster are all out. For the Flames, Curtis Glencross is on the rack. Yeah, that was a joke but you get the point. The Wild had 19 shots on net against Chicago yesterday, scored one goal and they’ll be hard-pressed to duplicate that here. Minnesota is in deep, deep trouble and the players have to be walking around wondering how the f**k they’re going to score some goals. In fact, over its last 11 games, Minnesota has scored two first period goals. Without Gaborik this team is completely punchless and when you throw in injuries to Nolan and Bergeron, they’re useless too. The Flames are an elite hockey team but that’s a story for another time. This one is all about playing against the Wild in a game they’re going to lose by however many goals the Flames score. Say 5-0, or thereabouts. DALLAS +1.56 over San Jose (REG)
Don’t look now but the Stars are slowly but surely coming to life. They’ve picked up points in five straight games and they’ve won five of its last seven. The Stars got off to a rocky start but suddenly they’re a very dangerous hockey team. As for the Sharkies, well, I’m not as convinced as everyone else that they’re the cream of the crop. Their record is off the charts but they’re coming back down to earth. In a statement game at the Joe recently, they were whacked 6-0. (By the way, the Wings are playing like crap). They also have recent losses to Columbus and St. Louis and have now dropped three of five with only wins coming against Vancouver and the Rangers. Incidentally, the Rangers were all over them. Anyway, I’m suggesting that the Sharkies have overachieved by a wide, wide margin. I look at this team and I’m really not sure how they’ve won so many games. They have a slew of average major-leaguers on the team to go along with one superstar. The bottom line is there is great value playing against the Sharks in certain situations and when the Stars are getting this big a tag in their own barn, you can pencil me in. Overlay. Play: Dallas +1.56 (Risking 2 units).
