Montreal –½ +1.32 over OTTAWA
Not customary for me to lay road pucks but the Senators are a complete dumpster fire and something is going to give real soon. Ottawa has dropped five in a row and failed to score more then two goals in all five games. In fact, they scored one or less in four of those five. They also lost Mike Fisher and Chris Neal to injuries and although that duo is not an offensive threat, they both play gritty and hard for 60 minutes and the Sens will miss the energy they bring; not that they have any at this point. This team is playing with a lack of everything and now they’ve had to call up two stiffs in Brandon Bell and Cody Bass. There’s also speculation that Christoph Schubert is on the way out. The defense is a mess, the goaltending is shaky as hell, nobody is scoring and there’s pressure and tension surrounding the whole team. The Habs are in a funk too with just two wins in its last seven games. Montreal’s last good effort came against these same Senators when they beat them 4-0 on November 11. The difference between the two teams is that the Canadiens have too much pride and talent to allow this thing to go on much longer. They also have solid goaltending with Carey Price in net and Price will get the start tonight. Losing to the Sens here is not an option for the Habs, as this is a very winnable game and one that they absolutely have to get. It says here they score plenty tonight en route to a comfortable win. Play: Montreal -½ +1.32 (Risking 2 units).

Chicago +1.09 over DALLAS
The Dallas Stars are in the same category as the Blue Notes, Senators, Florida, Tampa Bay and the Islanders. In fact, only the Blue Notes have less points and I haven’t seen anything from them that suggests they’re about to snap out of it. At the start of the year when the Stars were losing, at least they were finding the back of the net but that is no longer the case. Only twice in their last seven games have they scored more then two goals. In their last game against Phoenix they won but managed just 19 shots on net. The Stars shot totals for the last five games are 19, 26, 21, 24 and 23. Meanwhile, Chicago is an offensive juggernaut. They might be the greatest show on ice as they create as many chances as any team in the league and then some. It’s not uncommon for them to score five or six goals on a given night and in fact, they’ve accomplished that feat in five of their last 10 games. So, yeah, perhaps the Stars will win this one 2-1 but don’t bet on it. The last time these two played on Halloween night, the Blackhawks whacked Dallas 5-2 and there’s a great chance this one will turn out the same way. Play: Chicago +1.09 (Risking 2 units).
