Toronto +1.84 over NEW JERSEY
Perhaps I’m just not as high as others on these Devils. I think that Brodeur has seen better days, as he continues to give up soft goals every now and them and it’s happening too frequently to brush off as an aberration. The man has just been way overplayed the past 13 years, period. Anyway, this tag on the Maple Leafs is a definite overlay. Toronto is playing too good to ignore at this price, as they’re badly outplaying every team they face these days. They have absolutely dominated the shots on goal in their past four games, which looks like this: 38-21 over Anaheim, 37-28 in Boston, 38-24 over Ottawa and last night 39-25 over Tampa. The Leafs have played four road games to date and have already beaten Detroit and Boston and took the Rangers to OT. Their only regulation loss came at Pittsburgh but that 4-1 score is flattering to the Pens. The point is, the Leafs are overpriced here by not a little but by a lot, as this team is relentless and they’re looking better each game. Aside from a game in Montreal, its second of the year, I have not seen the Leafs get outplayed by anyone. The Devils will absolutely have their hands full here. New Jersey is coming off two losses to Philly, they’ve been off since Saturday and they’re still missing Holik, Rolston and possibly their captain, Jamie Langenbrunner. Big overlay. Play: Toronto +1.84 (Risking 2 units).<o></o>

Detroit -½ +1.38 over ANAHEIM (REG)
It’s not customary for me to lay road pucks but I’ll gladly make an exception here, as the Ducks are in a tough spot, not to mention that they’ve been living a charmed life recently. Despite four wins in a row and five wins in six games the Ducks were badly outplayed in five of those six wins. Only some hot goaltending prevented them from losing at least four of those games. The Ducks are 5-5 but conceivably could be 2-8 with the way they’ve played. A visit from the champs should have their juices flowing but it’s worth noting that they return home from a four-game trip to the east coast and that makes this assignment even more difficult. The bottom line is that the Ducks are very beatable indeed while the Red Wings, despite the loss of Franzen are the straight goods. Detroit is absolutely loaded with offensive talent and it’s almost like facing an all-star team. Ducks are outclassed here by a country mile and only the goaltending of Giguere will prevent us from cashing this ticket because the Ducks will get badly outplayed again. Play: Detroit -½ +1.38 (Risking 2 units).
