Minnesota –1.07 over ST. LOUIS
The Twinkies continue to blow away the NL and in fact, have now gone 53-18 over its last 71 inter-league games. Since 2005, the Twins are 25-10 against the NL and this year they’re 11-5. Kevin Slowey is 7-1 with a 2.48 ERA in 10 career starts against the NL, including 3-0 with a 2.79 ERA in 2009. Overall, when Slowey starts, the Twins are 10-4. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again that the Cardinals are the most overrated team in baseball and Tony LaRussa is one of the five worst managers in the game. The media makes him out to be a genius but the genius in the Cardinals is their pitching coach, Dave Duncan. The Cardinals, aside from Pujols, are made up of a bunch of scrap-heap players that couldn’t crack the line-up on 95% of AL teams and about 65% of NL teams. The Cards have lost four of five and over that stretch they’re hitting .203. Go through their line-up and what you have is a bunch of .240 to .260 hitters and that’s after a good first half for most of them. Todd Wellemeyer is 1-3 this month with a 6.52 ERA. In 29 frames this month the opposition has gone yard on him seven times and his BAA against is .336. Wellemeyer has had one good year in the majors and it came last season. Remember, this guy is a reliever turned starter and his numbers this season are similar to the numbers he put up as a Cubs reliever from 2003 to 2005 (5.53 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP). The Twins are so much deeper, they have the very dangerous and speedy leadoff hitter, Denard Span back in the line-up and they have a big edge on the hill. Offensively, the Twins are scoring and creating runs while the Cards are seeing BB’s and have the pitcher batting eighth. Anyway, regardless of the outcome, we’re going with the best of it here. Play: Minnesota –1.07 (Risking 2.14 units to win 2). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

L.A. Angels -1½ +1.45 over ARIZONA
Doug Davis has put up some decent numbers this season. He has a respectable 3.53 ERA and a very respectable BAA of .253. That’s nice, it really is, but the truth is Davis has been living a charmed life. In fact, if you take a close look, you’ll see his last six opponents were in order, Seattle, KC, San Fran, San Diego, Atlanta and San Diego again. In April, he faced the Giants twice and the Cubbies. Yet, after facing what could be considered the easiest schedule in baseball, Davis has three wins and leads the NL in losses with eight. The last dangerous offensive team he faced were the Marlins and the Fish knocked him out after 4.1 innings after Davis allowed six runs. The Angels are so dangerous. They’re loaded with offense, they never beat themselves, they move runners over more efficiently than any team in baseball and in fact, since 2005 they’ve gone first to third on a single more than any team in baseball and that includes this season. John Lackey’s numbers aren’t the greatest but he’s definitely rounding into form. Lackey threw eight good innings against the Dodgers in his last start and looked sharp in doing so. Lackey has gone 7-0 with a 2.54 ERA in his previous nine outings against the NL. Lastly, the D-Backs pen is a mess and mot only has it been brutal all year but they were called in last night to mop up after the Angels jumped ahead 8-0 in the second inning. Another blowout is likely in this one. Play: L.A. Angels –1½ +1.45 (Risking 2 units). <o:p></o:p>
