[h=1]Tuesdays are always a productive day in the Tuley’s Takes home office as we help with VSiN’s digital online magazine, “Point Spread Weekly,” where our regular Tuley’s Takes column appears as well as our college football picks, etc.[/h]
Our betting was pretty much a wash as we hit early with our pick on the Astros + 104 against the White Sox (note: the Astros around -108 s, so hopefully our followers were helping push them to favoritism), but lost later with the Giants.
Let’s get to our general recaps from last night, and then I’ll recommend a bet for a light Wednesday sports betting card. I’ll also list my football picks from PSW and then we’ll update our bets and try to time them right over the next few days.
Tuesday’s recaps
MLB: Dodgers (-180 home faves) routed the Giants 7-2 late Tuesday to set up a decisive Game 5 in their National League Division Series on Thursday. The game went Over the betting total of 8 runs. Earlier, the Astros (-108 road faves) routed the White Sox 10-1 to win their ALDS 3-1 (game went Over 8.5) and the Braves (-155 home faves) beat the Brewers 5-4 to win their NLDS 3-1 (game went Over 8). Faves went 3-0 on the day (Astros opened as a short road underdog but closed as a short road fave) and now lead 12-4 so far in this round. Home teams went 2-1 (Astros were the lone road team to win) and lead 11-5 in this round. Overs went 3-0 on the day and take a 9-7 overall lead.
More MLB: The Dodgers-Giants do-or-die Game 5 on Thursday opened at pick-'em (-105 both ways) at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas with the Over/Under set at 7 runs (Under favored at -120). BetMGM opened the Dodgers as -115 road favorites (note: they deal a 20-cent baseball line, so the Giants opened -105). Outside Las Vegas, I saw DraftKings and Pinnacle also had the game at pick-’em.
NHL: Regular season opened on Tuesday with the Penguins routing the defending champion Lightning 6-2 as 220 road underdogs. The game went Over the betting total of 5.5 goals. Also on opening night, the Golden Knights (-240 home favorites) beat the Kraken 4-3 in Seattle's franchise debut. The game also went Over 5.5).
CFB: Louisiana routed Appalachian State 41-13 in Tuesday night college football action. The Ragin' Cajuns (I love that nickname!) did it as 4.5-point home underdogs and + 160 on the money line. The game stayed Under 57.5 points.
Wednesday’s Takes
Parlay Rangers-Capitals 1st Period Over 1.5 -145 with Blackhawks-Avalanche 1st Period Over 1.5 -135 (1 unit to win 1.94 units): This is an homage to the winter and spring of 2019 when the “Follow the Money 5” were our personal ATM. We’re taking both these games to go Over 1.5 goals in the 1st period for a nice juicy payoff, basically turning two chalks into an overall underdog play (but one I still believe will hit often enough to be profitable). Note: another play we considered was Canucks-Oilers, but William Hill has put that 1st Period Over at 2 goals (though a tempting + 115), so I wouldn’t talk anyone out of betting that one straight or including in a round-robin parlay with our picks.
And here’s our college and pro football plays from Point Spread Weekly. For the reasoning behind why I like these plays, check out PSW. We’ll update these the rest of the week:
Thursday: Georgia Southern + 3.5 at South Alabama: Bet this ASAP as a lot of books have gone to 3.
Thursday: Navy + 10.5 at Memphis
Virginia Tech + 5 vs. Pittsburgh
Northwestern + 2 vs. Rutgers
TCU + 13,5 at Oklahoma (wait for 14)
Auburn + 4 at Arkansas
Thursday: Buccaneers -1 in teasers along with Chiefs -1 at Washington, Panthers + 7 vs. Vikings, Chargers + 9 at Ravens and Cardinals + 8.5 at Browns.
Jaguars + 3 vs. Dolphins in London
Texans + 10 at Colts
Bears + 4.5 vs. Packers
Chargers + 3 at Ravens, plus Chargers in teasers
Giants + 10.5 vs. Rams
Raiders + 4 at Broncos
Seahawks + 5 at Steelers
