I hope that you all had a great night as well. I went 3-0 +20.00 units in the NBA and 4-1-1 +14.55 units in the NCAA basketball. Let kick some more ass tonight!!!
5 Units Florida Intl +13 -110
Young, inexperienced and not very big, Florida International has started the season 1-1 SU, after topping Quinnipiac 66-65 on Sunday. Leading Fla-Int were Harry Lum 20 points, Marcus Robinson 16 points and Junior Matias added 15. A big plus for Fla-Int is that juniors Taurance Johnson and Carlos Morban will return for this game, after missing the first two games of the season (as requested by the NCAA because of an error pertaining to summer league participation). A season opening road win over UNC-Charlotte 80-76 as a 9.5 point dog was an encouraging beginning for the GW Colonials. Chris Monroe has been lost to graduation, so the Colonials need a go-to-guy or guys to emerge. Lafonte Johnson stepped up with 15 points and Pops Mensah-Bonsu had 14. It's still early but Johnson, a 5'-10" a transfer from UNLV, could be the "answer" to who the new designated scorer will be for the Colonials. GW is more experienced and coming off a big win, but Florida Int. gets two key players back here!!!

Ark Little Rock (0-1 SU. 1-0 ATS) was abused by Arizona State 89-72 on Saturday as a 17 1/2 point dog. Norm Zachary led LR with 5 points and 7 rebounds, but the Trojans were outclassed in game one, (outshot 44% to 38%) but still managed an ATS squeaker. The Bonnies managed a 78-76 win over Robert Morris on Saturday after being outshot 56% to 41% thanks to some timely rebounding on the offensive glass. Marques Green, still the designated scoring machine, poured in 28 points for St. Bonaventure. Little Rock won't have an answer for Green who will shoot over, under, around and through the Trojans on Tuesday!!!
5 Units Va Commonwealth -3 -115
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are better than they looked in the opener, while Virginia Commonwealth played strong 'D' in its opener (a 65-61 win over Iona). Western Kentucky doesn't have the dominant big man they've had in recent years, but they have a strong, athletic team with 6'-3” senior guard Mike Wells and 6’-4” sophomore Anthony Winchester. Winchester had 12 points, 8 rebounds against Auburn, an 86-64 road loss. Road woes were a problem last year, too, when Western Kentucky went 17-0 at home, but 7-9 SU/8-7 ATS on the road. The Virginia-Commonwealth Rams are known for great defense (holding opponents to 37% shooting last season). They will be tough again with 6’-6”, 300-lb senior center Troy Goodwin and 6’-6” sophomore Nick George crashing the boards. Western Kentucky beat VCU 80-73 in OT last year, but failed to cover as a 10-point favorite. Look for less scoring this time around and VCU to get the home win!!!

CAA meets the ACC, and this will be a one-sided game. The George Mason Patriots play good defense allowing 60.5 ppg last season, and they had better slow this game down if they want to hang in there. Unfortunatly, the frontcourt has been rebuilding and they lack a big man, and that will hurt against Maryland's frontcourt. Also, George Mason was 6-8 SU/6-7 ATS on the road, and they didn't score much when stepping up in class last season: GM lost 56-49 to Ole Miss and 65-41 at Pitt. The Maryland Terrapins were 15-4 SU at home last season (8-8 ATS) but have the big edge in rebounding this game with 6'-7" sophomore Nik Caner-Medley and 6'-9" sophomore Travis Garrison. Maryland is young, but coach Gary Williams likes to run at home and George Mason doesn't have the depth or offense to hang in here!!!
5 Units Kansas -8.5 -102
A great early season matchup here. Michigan State (LY: 22-13 SU, 18-15 ATS) comes off a good showing in the Big Dance while Kansas (30-8 SU, 18-14 ATS) is a preseason pick to go deep into the party once again this year. State's Chris Hill is a bonafide scorer who wants the ball in crunch time. The Spartans have an underrated big man in Paul Davis and significant help off the bench. The Jayhawks were a 90-76 winner over tenn-Chat in their first game. Gone are Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison, but with the talent Kansas has assembled, they just reload and score again. State will keep this close for a while, then the Hawks swoop!!!

Cal State Northridge has a better frontcourt and will be able to control the glass here. Northridge has 6'-6" junior Ian Boylan, 6'-6" Eto Onyenegecha, and 6'-9" junior Chris Davis to crash the boards. The Matadors were just 5-11 SU in away games last season, (though 9-7 ATS). The Loyola Marymount Lions lack height and the backcourt leads the way. 6’-9” junior Andy Osborne has been improving, but he's not a physical low post player and Northridge has three big guys to throw at him. Loyola was just 7-8 SU at home last season and the defense was poor giving up over 71 ppg both home and away. Perhaps they've changed, as they've won their only game, a 59-53 victory over a weak Riverside team, but at least they played some 'D'. A year ago, Northridge won 74-71 at home, though Loyola got the cover as a +9 dog!!!
10 Units Miami Florida -2.5 -107
Two East coast teams playing this game in Las Vegas, Nevada!!! At Rhode Island (LY: 19-12 SU, 15-13 ATS, R: 7-7 SU, 9-4 ATS), 6-3 fifth-year senior Brian Woodward (14.1 ppg), 6-4 junior Dustin Hellenga (13 ppg) and 6-3 junior Dawan Robinson (11.2 ppg) provide an outside threat but lack of an inside game could be a major problem, especially here against Miami's 6'-10" Darius Rice. Rice is as explosive as any player in the country. The team should improve and be better able to handle end-game situations with a year of experience under the belts of Armondo Surratt and Robert Hite. Neither team has had any real competition but R.I. couldn't beat Div. II Lubbock. Miami beat La-Monroe 78-60 and appears to have the tools necessary to handle Rhode without too much of a sweat!!!

At SMU (LY: 17-13 SU, 14-12 ATS), sophomore point guard Bryan Hopkins has just scratched the surface of his potential and he was plenty good last year. Forward Patrick Simpson (11.9 ppg, 7.1 rpg) has all-conference stuff and center Eric Castro is a force down low. They match up well with a TCU team that doesn't have much to speak of at this point. Femi Ibikunle is a 6-10, 253-pound freshman and the first true center TCU has had in a long time. Guard Marcus Shropshire sat out the 2002-03 season after transferring from Texas Tech, where he showed signs of being able to score and create his own shots. Blake Adams, a 6-6 forward, was a prolific high school scorer, averaging nearly 20 points per game, and could add some offensive punch to the TCU attack. SMU topped TCU at home 87-84 a year ago as a 4-point favorite so these teams have a history. TCU shows promise but SMU has the better talent right now!!!
