BALTIMORE ORIOLES +190

Easily Bet this number any day of the week. O's have not lost a game in which a rookie pitcher has started this season 5-0

And if your an O's fan as such, you know Brain Matusz is ridiculous.

2009 Season
Team W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR BB SO GO/AO AVG

Minors 11 2 1.91 19 19 1 1 0 113.0 87 31 24 7 32 121 1.32 .211

If you want to take it super safe play the O's +1.5 but I know we will win tonight, you heard it here first!!

What about a 5 inning play on this? Think I might like that a bit more! Usually it take major league lineups at least 1 time through the order to figure out debut pitchers.

Suit yourself on that play.....It will be a pitchers dual but I think O's will prevail this evening in the end

So everything in the basket is going on Matusz completely shutting down the Tigers tonight?

Must have a lot of confidence in the guy. I'm not embarrassed to say I am not well versed on the finer aspects of young pitching prospects in the Orioles organization. You got any useful background info on him?

11-2 1.91 ERA this season

He averages more than a strike out an inning and only 1 walk every 3-4 innings

Yea it seems he is a nasty prospect. But double-A Bowie isn't quite the same as throwing to Miguel Cabrera in front of crazy Detroit fans.

I'll run this stream tho in the background with periodic interest when he comes in.

Hope it works out for you tonight.

Statistically speaking: In his 26 2/3-inning unofficial pro debut in the Arizona Fall League, Matusz fanned 31 and walked just seven. He finished fifth in the AFL in strikeouts and was eighth in K/BB ratio (4.13) and 13th in K/9 (10.47) among pitchers who qualified for the ERA title.

Scouting report: His slightly above-average fastball touches 94 mph while his curve and slider are both outstanding. He also throws an above-average changeup. He knows how to pitch and has the ability to throw all four pitches for strikes.

Upside potential: Top-of-the-rotation left-handed starter in the near future. There have been many Cole Hamels comparisons.

They said it: "He got what he needed out of the Fall League. He got his innings in. That's what he needs to do. We just need to build on that. He has everything he needs to be a successful Major League pitcher. He just needs work. I believe he's advanced, he can pitch without his best stuff. If he stays healthy, he'll be in the big leagues very, very soon." -- Joe Jordan, Orioles scouting director

He said it: "I was pretty nervous to begin with just going out there for the first time, but I was able to relax and settle in after the first few pitches. But it's still the same game -- it's still baseball." -- Matusz on his debut in the AFL

I like your angle her bro and you seem to be on top of things instead of shooting in the dark here...but I am also aware that Detroit has been very capable of beating up on lefties this year. Its worth looking into, but a lot of things lingering that could certainly be disappointing to a young pitchers major league debut.

24 HR in 19 starts in the minors doesn't bode well vs. the tigers lineup...however good point, and there is some great value in this play as well...

This game has my interest too. I like your work on this one. Thanks.

I also like the excitment surrounding Washburn and the big line Detroit has. Has Washburn carried a line like this with Seattle? Anyway, WASHBURN is 7-5 when starting against BALTIMORE. Baltimore got five runs off Verlander before he got it together and Detroit put up more runs last night than they've been averaging which is 4.6. Here's what Detroit's put up in terms of runs over the last 10 games and if they won or lost.

I like this play too.

Potentially your right Sizzle....

Another huge factor in my opinion is the fact that Matt Weiters caught for all these young pitchers and we all know the importance of the pitcher/catcher chemistry. This will certainly aid the young pitcher into being a lot more comfortable than he would just being thrown in without knowing how his catcher functions throughout a game

Also this Detroit line-up although seems stacked they are not at all performing as they are capable of since the all-star break. I see a big Detroit let down tonight

If the least I can do is encourage those who are looking to bet Detroit big at least have it be a no play then I've done my job

Of course the O's have an awesome road record.....and Washburn is only 3rd in the American League in ERA.....Cant back the O's here....but...I DO like the under....its like I cant bet the Nats....just certain criterias I have this year in baseball...I will put a small play on the under...I just cant see Baltimore hitting Washburn in his debut for the Tigers....+ the Motor City Kitties have a great home record....no play on the game....small play on the under....

BOL....

Not saying you don't have some points, but consider this:

Matusz must be the 6th best rookie on the O's to have 5 other rookies start a game ahead of him.

The fact that the O's are 5-0 when starting a rookie has absolutly nothing to do with this game ...

He is actually the top ranked pitching prospect for the Orioles if you must know...

They didn't want to rush him into the majors but they were forced to when Brad Bergesen went to the DL
