Preview: Tigers at Yankees

Gracenote

Aug 1, 2017

The New York Yankees were big winners on and off the field Monday, acquiring one of the most coveted pitchers on the trade market just hours before routing the visiting Detroit Tigers. New York added a potential ace in right-hander Sonny Gray and has won seven of eight entering the second of the three-game series against the Tigers.

The Yankees hold a one-half game edge over Boston atop the American League East but provided a major boost to its starting rotation with Gray, who won 14 games in both 2014 and 2015 with Oakland. "It was an area of weakness and it's been shored up and addressed," acknowledged New York general manager Brian Cashman. "We hope it plays that way as we move forward." Before Yankees slugger Aaron Judge belted his majors-leading 34th homer, Detroit ran the white flag up the pole by trading closer Justin Wilson to the Chicago Cubs earlier in the day. The Tigers (47-57), who have lost five of seven and are 10 games below .500, will send Anibal Sanchez to the mound to oppose left-hander CC Sabathia on Tuesday.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Detroit, YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Anibal Sanchez (2-1, 6.18 ERA) vs. Yankees LH CC Sabathia (9-3, 3.66)

Sanchez had provided a huge boost since he returned to the starting rotation on June 19, but he lasted only 3 2/3 innings against Kansas City on Wednesday and was tagged for four runs and nine hits. The 33-year-old Venezuelan had allowed three earned runs or fewer in five of his first six starts, going 2-0 in the span. Slumping Matt Holliday is 8-for-17 against Sanchez, who is 3-1 with a 4.03 in five starts versus New York.

Sabathia won his first two starts -- both on the road -- after the All-Star break, permitting only one run and six hits, but he lasted only 4 1/3 innings and was thumped for four runs in a no-decision versus Tampa Bay on Thursday. Sabathia has more wins against Detroit than any other opponent, posting a 21-13 record and 4.11 ERA. Jose Iglesias has fared well against him, going 9-for-19.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yankees 1B Chase Headley is 9-for-23 on the current nine-game homestand and is batting .383 since the All-Star break.

2. Tigers C James McCann is 16-for-36 during a 10-game hitting streak.

3. Yankees LF Clint Frazier has eight RBIs in his last eight contests.

GAME: Kansas City Royals (55-49) at Baltimore Orioles (51-54)

Preview: Royals at Orioles

Gracenote

Jul 31, 2017

It looked like the Kansas City Royals would be the team receiving the most phone calls from contending teams when they were eight games under .500 on June 9, but things changed quite a bit in the last eight weeks. The Royals held onto all of their key players at the trade deadline on Monday and will try to continue making up ground in the American League Central when they visit the Baltimore Orioles for the second of a three-game series on Tuesday.

Kansas City is staring at free agency for several key players at the end of this season but is primed to make one more run at the postseason with its current core and added Melky Cabrera in a trade over the weekend to provide some veteran depth in the outfield. Cabrera, who also played for the Royals during the 2011 season, made his return on Monday by going 0-for-4 out of the No. 3 spot in the order in a 2-1 setback and Kansas City remained two games behind the first-place Cleveland Indians in the AL Central. The Orioles couldn't seem to decide if they were buyers or sellers and tweaked the edges of the roster by acquiring veteran right-hander Jeremy Hellickson to bolster the back end of the rotation and infielder Tim Beckham to help the team while shortstop J.J. Hardy (hand/wrist) and infielder Ryan Flaherty (shoulder) sit on the 60-day disabled list. The Royals will send Ian Kennedy to the mound on Tuesday while the Orioles counter with struggling Dylan Bundy.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Kansas City, MASN 2 (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals RHP Ian Kennedy (4-6, 4.43 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Dylan Bundy (9-8, 4.53)

Kennedy has not lost since June 5 and snapped a three-start winless streak by holding the Detroit Tigers to one run and three hits over six innings on Wednesday. The California native surrendered three or fewer earned runs in seven of his last eight appearances. Kennedy is seeing Baltimore for the first time this season and is 4-2 with a 3.97 ERA in 10 starts on the road.

Bundy was rocked for seven runs on eight hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings in his last start against Houston on July 23 and got some extra rest following his third poor start in four outings. The former No. 4 overall pick watched his ERA rise from 1.65 in April to 3.92 in May to 5.93 in June and 8.41 in July. Bundy started at Kansas City on May 12 and allowed two runs across six innings but did not factor in the decision.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Orioles placed DH Mark Trumbo (strained rib cage) on the 10-day disabled list on Monday.

2. Kansas City 1B Eric Hosmer is 12-for-22 over his last five games.

3. Hellickson is expected to make his Baltimore debut in Wednesday's series finale.

Preview: Reds at Pirates

Gracenote

Jul 31, 2017

Andrew McCutchen has been flexing his muscles with five of his last six hits leaving the park. Fresh off his third career three-homer performance, McCutchen looks to continue the power surge on Tuesday as the Pirates begin an eight-game homestand with the opener of a three-game series versus the Cincinnati Reds.

McCutchen belted three solo shots in Sunday's 7-1 rout at San Diego, snapping Pittsburgh's four-game losing skid while giving the five-time All-Star and 2013 National League MVP five homers, nine RBIs and seven runs scored during his last six games. The 30-year-old has two homers and is batting .286 versus the Reds this season, and that average elevates to a robust .311 in 45 career at-bats versus Tuesday starter Homer Bailey. While Pittsburgh resides 5 1/2 games behind first-place Chicago in the NL Central, cellar-dwelling Cincinnati found a rare ray of sunshine on Sunday after snapping a six-game skid with a 6-4 victory over Miami. The reeling Reds won for just the third time in 17 outings, although they have emerged victorious in six of the seven meetings versus the Pirates this season.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Ohio (Cincinnati), AT&T SportsNet-Pittsburgh

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds RH Homer Bailey (2-5, 8.37) vs. Pirates RH Jameson Taillon (6-4, 4.03)

Bailey sustained his third straight loss on Wednesday after allowing seven runs on 10 hits - including nine singles - in a 9-5 setback at the New York Yankees. The 31-year-old has permitted 17 runs during his losing skid (16 innings), but perhaps a trek to PNC Park will be just what the doctor ordered to turn his fortunes around. Bailey has posted a 5-2 mark with a 2.58 ERA in nine career starts in Pittsburgh - including a no-hitter on Sept. 28, 2012.

Taillon endured the worst start of his career on Tuesday, surrendering 10 runs on nine hits in three innings of an 11-3 shellacking at San Francisco. The run total eclipsed the 25-year-old's sum total of his previous five starts, during which he yielded eight runs over 27 2/3 frames. Taillon's previous season-worst outing came in Cincinnati on May 3, during which he was shelled for six runs on eight hits - including two homers - in a 7-2 setback.

WALK-OFFS

1. Pirates 3B David Freese has hit safely in 10 straight starts, going 14-for-37 (.378).

2. Reds CF Billy Hamilton leads the majors with 44 steals, with eight coming against the Pirates this season.

3. Pittsburgh traded RHP Tony Watson and Cincinnati dealt LHP Tony Cingrani -- both relievers -- to the Los Angeles Dodgers prior to Monday's trade deadline.

Preview: Indians at Red Sox

Gracenote

Jul 31, 2017

The Boston Red Sox got the bullpen piece they needed at the trade deadline on Monday but watched the rival New York Yankees swing the biggest deal in the American League by nabbing right-hander Sonny Gray from the Oakland Athletics. The Red Sox, who sit a half-game behind the Yankees in the AL East, will try to make up some ground at the expense of another division leader when they host the Cleveland Indians in the second of a three-game set on Tuesday.

Boston picked up reliever Addison Reed from the New York Mets prior to Monday's deadline, but the biggest boost of the day came from an offense that had been struggling to score runs while the team dropped six of eight. That offense came alive for five runs in the first four innings en route to a 6-2 victory in Monday's opener as Eduardo Nunez, who was acquired in a trade last week, continued to make himself at home with three hits and two RBIs. The Indians are suddenly losers of two in a row following a nine-game winning streak and managed three runs in the two setbacks. Cleveland, which sits two games ahead of the Kansas City Royals in the Central, will try to bounce back on Tuesday behind Carlos Carrasco while the Red Sox counter with ace Chris Sale.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, STO (Cleveland), NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Carlos Carrasco (10-4, 3.58 ERA) vs. Red Sox LH Chris Sale (13-4, 2.37)

Carrasco delivered a quality start in four of his five July outings and is coming off a no-decision against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday in which he allowed two runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings. The Venezuela native notched five strikeouts in that turn and totaled 39 in 32 2/3 innings in July. Carrasco is seeing the Red Sox for the first time in 2017 and is 1-1 with a 4.66 ERA in five career appearances - three starts - against them.

Sale is well on his way to the AL Cy Young Award and has not allowed a run in three starts since the All-Star break. The Florida native struck out 11 while yielding three hits in seven scoreless innings at Seattle on Wednesday and owns 33 strikeouts and 10 hits allowed in 20 2/3 innings since the break. Sale has plenty of experience against Cleveland from his time with the Chicago White Sox and is 5-7 with a 4.07 ERA in 27 career appearances - 16 starts - versus the Indians.

WALK-OFFS

1. Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia (knee) sat out his third straight game on Monday and remains day-to-day.

2. The Indians placed RHP Josh Tomlin (hamstring) on the 10-day disabled list and scheduled him for an MRI on Tuesday.

3. Cleveland acquired RHP Joe Smith from the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.

Preview: Nationals at Marlins

Gracenote

Jul 31, 2017

Max Scherzer has not lost since June 21 but he will get a chance to avenge that defeat when the Washington Nationals continue a three-game series at the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. Scherzer will have a tough act to follow after teammate Gio Gonzalez took a no-hitter into the ninth inning of Washington's 1-0 victory in Monday's series opener.

Scherzer leads the National League with 201 strikeouts and can pitch with added confidence after the Nationals added another piece to a bullpen that was a shambles for the first half of the season. Washington made a trade with Minnesota on Monday for All-Star closer Brandon Kintzler, who will join recent acquisitions Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle in a suddenly formidable bullpen. The NL East-leading Nationals hold a 14-game edge over second-place Miami, which has dropped two in a row following a four-game winning streak. Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon spoiled Gonzalez's no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the ninth, one of five hits total between the two teams.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, MASN (Washington), FSN Florida (Miami)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Max Scherzer (12-5, 2.23 ERA) vs. Marlins LH Chris O'Grady (2-1, 3.68)

Scherzer rebounded from a rocky outing at Arizona by overpowering Milwaukee on Thursday, allowing a solo homer among three hits and striking out nine over six innings. He is 4-0 in six starts since a 2-1 setback at Miami, a hard-luck loss in which he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, struck out 11 and gave up two unearned runs. Christian Yelich is 7-for-20 with two homers off Scherzer, who is 6-3 with a 3.50 ERA in 11 starts versus Miami.

O'Grady is coming off the finest performance of his brief major-league tenure, blanking Cincinnati on five hits over seven innings in his fourth career start. He labored against the Reds in his previous turn, lasting 4 2/3 innings and giving up three runs while walking six in a no-decision. The 27-year-old George Mason product has stymied left-handed hitters, holding them to four hits in 28 at-bats.

WALK-OFFS

1. Kintzler was 28-for-32 in save situations while posting a 2-2 record and 2.78 ERA for the Twins.

2. Gordon has hit safely in 11 consecutive games.

3. Doolittle has converted all four of his save opportunities since he was acquired along with Madson from Oakland.

Sunday’s 3-2, 11-inning victory over San Francisco pushed the Dodgers’ record to 74-31 on the season, and the good news continued on Monday’s off day as Los Angeles acquired Texas ace Yu Darvish at the trade deadline.

Shortstop Corey Seager collected his eighth three-hit game of the season Sunday, and in 22 games in July hit .333 with 12 runs scored, eight doubles, six homers and 14 RBIs for the Dodgers. While Los Angeles has won 19 of its past 21 games and now add Darvish to a pitching staff leading the majors in ERA (3.09), the Braves wrapped up an 11-game road trip - which started with consecutive victories over the Dodgers - by losing eight of the final nine contests. Atlanta has left 69 runners on base in the past nine games, going 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position in Monday’s 7-6 loss to Philadelphia. Braves right fielder Nick Markakis begins the series just two hits shy of reaching 2,000 for his career.

TV: 7:35 p.m. ET, SportsNet Los Angeles, FSN Southeast (Atlanta)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers RH Kenta Maeda (9-4, 4.09 ERA) vs. Braves RH Lucas Sims (NR)

Maeda’s rough start to the season - a 1-2 record with an 8.05 ERA in his first four starts - is a distant memory as the 29-year-old has since dominated opposing lineups. He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in nine of his past 12 starts, and since the start of June has posted a 2.75 ERA with five wins and a save in nine appearances (seven starts). Maeda, who did not face the Braves in Los Angeles, gave up one earned run in five innings July 25 to beat Minnesota for his third consecutive win.

The Braves announced Monday they will promote Sims to make his major-league debut in the series opener. Taken 21st overall in the 2012 draft, the 23-year-old has found his stride at Triple-A Gwinnett after an up-and-down career while going 7-4 with a 3.75 ERA in 20 games (19 starts) this season. Sims has struck out 51 hitters with only seven walks in 35 1/3 innings across his past six outings, and was selected to the Triple-A All-Star game.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Dodgers also bolstered their bullpen at Monday's deadline, acquiring Pittsburgh LHP Tony Watson and Cincinnati LHP Tony Cingrani.

2. Atlanta 1B Freddie Freeman homered in the eighth inning Monday, just his second blast in the past 16 games after hitting three homers in his previous four games.

3. Los Angeles 1B Adrian Gonzalez, out since June 11 with a back injury, is expected to begin a rehab assignment this week with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

GAME: St. Louis Cardinals (52-53) at Milwaukee Brewers (55-52)

Preview: Cardinals at Brewers

Gracenote

Jul 31, 2017

The Milwaukee Brewers are mired in quite the funk, with losses in 11 of their last 14 to relinquish their spot atop the National League Central in addition to setting a franchise record by going hitless in their last 31 at-bats with runners in scoring position. The Brewers attempt to stop the bleeding on Tuesday as they open a pivotal three-game series against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals.

"A week without a hit with runners in scoring position, that's not really acceptable. We have to find a way to cash in on those opportunities," Travis Shaw said after Milwaukee's 4-2 loss to the first-place Chicago Cubs on Sunday. The 27-year-old has done his part with three homers, five RBIs and five runs scored over his last eight games and is 3-for-6 with a homer and three RBIs in his career versus Tuesday starter Carlos Martinez. While the Brewers have tumbled to 2 1/2 games behind Chicago, the Cardinals (52-53) have ascended to 4 1/2 in back of the Cubs with wins in five of their last seven to reside one victory shy of evening their record. Jose Martinez recorded a career-high three RBIs in Sunday's 3-2 triumph over Arizona and has gone deep twice with six RBIs against Milwaukee this season.

TV: 7:40 p.m. ET, FSN Midwest (St. Louis), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Carlos Martinez (7-8, 3.52 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Jimmy Nelson (8-5, 3.38)

Martinez allowed five runs for the third time in five July starts on Wednesday, but walked away with the victory after striking our eight in a 10-5 triumph over Colorado. The 25-year-old Dominican will look for a fresh start versus Milwaukee, against which he owns a 5-2 mark with a 1.75 ERA in 21 career appearances. Martinez is 1-1 versus the Brewers this season after permitting five runs in as many innings in a 7-5 setback on April 20 and yielding one unearned run on four hits in 7 1/3 frames of a 2-1 victory two weeks later.

Nelson has answered a three-game winning streak with an 0-1 mark over his last three trips to the mound. The 28-year-old settled for his second hard-luck no-decision in that span after allowing two runs on four hits and striking out 10 in seven innings at Washington on Wednesday. Nelson owns an 0-8 mark with a 7.01 ERA in 11 career games against St. Louis, including a six-walk performance in a 6-4 setback on April 23.

WALK-OFFS

1. St. Louis SS Paul DeJong is 1-for-9 in his last three contests on the heels of a seven-game hitting streak.

2. Milwaukee reacquired RHP Jeremy Jeffress from Texas prior to Monday's trade deadline. The reliever was shipped to the Rangers along with C Jonathan Lucroy at last year's trade deadline.

3. Cardinals OF Stephen Piscotty, who has been sidelined with a groin injury, completed a short rehab stint with Single-A Peoria and is expected to return to the team on Tuesday.

GAME: Arizona Diamondbacks (60-45) at Chicago Cubs (56-48)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, August 01 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois

Preview: Diamondbacks at Cubs

Gracenote

Jul 31, 2017

A pair of playoff contenders go head-to-head when the Chicago Cubs play host to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a three-game series beginning Tuesday. The Cubs are 13-3 since the All-Star break and stand 2 1/2 games ahead of Milwaukee in the National League Central - the defending World Series champions’ largest lead of the season - while the Diamondbacks remain atop the NL wild card race.

Chicago is among the hottest teams in the majors, thanks in large part to a rejuvenated starting rotation that has posted a 2.34 ERA and 11 quality starts in 16 games since the break. Ace left-hander Jon Lester hopes to continue that trend when he aims for his fourth straight quality start opposite fellow lefty Patrick Corbin. Both teams did some dealing ahead of Monday’s non-waiver trade deadline, with each adding pieces to the bullpen and picking up veterans who add depth off the bench. The Cubs picked up left-hander Justin Wilson and catcher Alex Avila from Detroit, while the Diamondbacks acquired Adam Rosales from Oakland to shore up their injury-riddled infield and added right-hander David Hernandez from the Los Angeles Angels to bolster the bullpen.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, FSN Arizona, CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (8-9, 4.36 ERA) vs. Cubs LH Jon Lester (8-6, 3.88)

Corbin has won his last two starts and allowed two or fewer runs in his last four. The 28-year-old issued a season-high four walks and scattered seven hits Wednesday against Atlanta, but he limited the damage to two runs over six innings. Corbin is 3-0 with a 3.15 ERA in four games (three starts) against the Cubs.

Lester has been excellent in three starts since the All-Star break, winning all three while posting a 2.05 ERA. The 33-year-old held the Chicago White Sox to two runs and four hits over seven innings Thursday, allowing both runs on solo homers for the second straight game. Lester is 2-0 with a 4.63 ERA in four starts against the Diamondbacks.

WALK-OFFS

1. Diamondbacks SS Ketel Marte was placed on the bereavement list Monday after his mother was killed in a car crash.

2. Cubs C Willson Contreras has reached base in 15 straight games, boasting a .397 on-base percentage over that stretch.

3. Arizona OF J.D. Martinez has hit safely in his last seven games against the Cubs.

Preview: Mariners at Rangers

Gracenote

Aug 1, 2017

The Seattle Mariners have picked up their play away from home in a big way following a lousy start to the season, and continued road success in August figures to be a major factor as to whether or not they can end a 15-year postseason drought. The Mariners, who began a stretch in which they play 21 of 28 away from Safeco Field on Monday, hope to keep rolling on the road one day later as they continue their three-game series against the Texas Rangers.

Seattle spotted Texas a four-run, second-inning lead in the opener before taking advantage of four errors and eventually rallying for a 6-4 victory on Monday, improving to 14-6 away from home since opening the season 8-20 on the road. While the Mariners won their third straight to climb within 2 1/2 games of Kansas City for the second and final wild-card spot in the American League, the Rangers fell 5 1/2 games behind the Royals to conclude what has been a chaotic two days for the club. A few hours after Adrian Beltre became the 31st player in major-league history to reach 3,000 hits on Sunday, the Rangers sent catcher Johnathan Lucroy to Colorado for a player to be named. Texas continued its roster makeover on Monday afternoon, dealing reliever Jeremy Jeffress to Milwaukee for a minor leaguer before sending four-time All-Star Yu Darvish to the Los Angeles Dodgers for three prospects.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners RH Erasmo Ramirez (4-3, 4.80 ERA) vs. Rangers RH Nick Martinez (3-3, 4.56)

Ramirez, who was acquired from Tampa Bay for Steve Cishek and cash considerations on Friday, returns to the club with which he spent his first three major-league seasons from 2012-14. The 27-year-old Nicaraguan defeated Cincinnati in his last turn with the Rays on June 21 and held the opposition scoreless in five of his final six relief outings with Tampa Bay. Beltre is 6-for-15 against Ramirez, who has posted an 8.31 ERA in three appearances (one start) against the Rangers this season.

Martinez, who was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock following the Darvish trade, will attempt to win his third straight turn, although he will be making his first major-league start since June 25. The Miami native was demoted on July 6 and struggled in his first turn for the Express, but he rebounded nicely by allowing only five hits over 10 scoreless innings in his last two outings with Round Rock. Kyle Seager is 7-for-11 against Martinez, who is 0-2 with a 3.63 ERA in five appearances (three starts) versus Seattle.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Mariners are 9-2 in their last 11 road contests and tied with the Dodgers for the best such mark in the majors since June 18.

2. Beltre has committed an error in three straight games after going a career-high and club-record (for a third baseman) 62 contests without one.

3. Seattle OF Leonys Martin, who was demoted in late April after batting .111, is 3-for-8 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs since being recalled on Sunday.

PREDICTION: Mariners 5, Rangers 4

Game: Tampa Bay Rays (54-53) at Houston Astros (69-36)

Preview: Rays at Astros

Gracenote

Aug 1, 2017

The Houston Astros surprisingly did not make a major deal to bolster their pitching staff at Monday's non-waiver trade deadline, but if their offense continues to perform like it did the same night, it won’t matter much. The Astros look to match their impressive performance at the plate in the series opener when they host the Tampa Bay Rays for the second contest of their four-game set on Tuesday.

Houston reportedly was attempting to acquire a big-name starting pitcher such as Sonny Gray or Yu Darvish, along with closer Zach Britton, but had to settle for the veteran Francisco Liriano in a deal with Toronto. The Astros registered 17 hits in a 14-7 victory on Monday and hope to provide the same support for Mike Fiers when he opposes All-Star Chris Archer, who is 4-2 with a 1.68 ERA in his career versus Houston. The Rays picked up three relievers and slugger Lucas Duda in separate deals last week and sent infielder Tim Beckham to Baltimore on Monday before losing for the ninth time in 12 contests to drop 4 ½ games out of first place in the American League East. Corey Dickerson has knocked in five runs over the last two games for Tampa Bay, which has given up 34 over its last five contests.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), AT&T SportsNet-Southwest (Houston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Chris Archer (7-6, 3.80 ERA) vs. Astros RH Mike Fiers (7-5, 3.71)

Archer is winless in his last four appearances but has strung together six straight quality starts and 13 in a row in which he has completed six frames. The 28-year-old North Carolina native, who is second in the AL with 177 strikeouts, was unable to record a victory last time out as the Rays botched what would have been the last out in the ninth inning. Marwin Gonzalez is 4-for-11 and Jose Altuve 5-for-18 with a homer against Archer, who did not face Houston during their series in April.

Fiers could not extend his winning streak to three games last time out as he permitted three runs, five hits and three walks over four innings in a loss at Philadelphia. The 32-year-old Floridian has posted ERAs under 3.00 in each of the last two months and has been better at home with a 2.85 mark as opposed to 4.50 on the road. Logan Morrison (6-for-12) and Evan Longoria (3-for-8, two homers) cause trouble for Fiers, who gave up three runs over five frames in a no-decision against the Rays on April 21.

WALK-OFFS

1. Houston RHP Lance McCullers Jr. (lower back) was placed on the 10-day disabled list while 1B AJ Reed and RHP Michael Feliz were recalled from Triple-A Fresno and Double-A Corpus Christi, respectively.

2. Duda homered for the third time in four games with the Rays on Monday and has hit safely in five in a row, including his last contest with the New York Mets.

3. Altuve finished July with 48 hits - including four homers - in 99 at-bats to raise his major league-best batting average to .368.

PREDICTION: Rays 6, Astros 2
