One football game tonight in the MAC, and it is time for the underdog to howl as Ball State hosts Western Michigan.
No question the Broncos own the better record, as they sit at 6-4, but their 6 game win streak is now a thing of the distant past, as Tim Lester's team has sorely missed starting quarterback Jon Wassink's skill-set. Wassink left early back on October 25th in a game the Broncos lost at home to Toledo by a 51-24 score.
In that game, freshman Kaleb Eleby was inserted and played adequately. His next start - also at home - against Ohio on November 1st saw him produce only 14 points, as the Broncos defense was shredded again, this time for 59 points!
Ball State's offense is not one that is going to move it up and down the field and score in droves, and they will also be playing without their starting signal caller, as Riley Neal is out once again, and it will be Drew Plitt to start for the second time in a row.
Ball State is mired in a 3 game straight up and against the spread slide, and they are also on an 0-4 series slide to Western, getting taking to the woodshed, 55-3 last year when the teams played!
With Western Michigan just 1-4 against the spread their last 5 when listed as the favorite, I will look for this road impost to be a little too much for the freshman quarterback to get on top of.
Close one for a change in this series. Take the Cards plus the points in the MAC for Tuesday.

Tuesday night comp play comes in the NBA as I back the Hornets as the road favorite over the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers are the worst team in the NBA, and it is not even close!
Cleveland sports a 1-11 straight up mark, and they are just 1-5 against the spread on their home court thus far. Take a look at their injuries...Love, Korver, Smith, Osman and Dekker are sidelined, well, Smith is actually expected to play tonight, but there just aren't enough healthy bodies for my to think the Cavaliers can stay within this impost tonight.
Charlotte has already claimed the win in the first series meeting against Cleveland., with the Hornets besting the Cavaliers, 126-94 as the -9 1/2 home court favorite earlier this month.
The Hornets are on a 4-2 straight up and against the spread uptick, as they have crept over the .500 mark at 7-6 for the year, and there is no reason they should not be able to go out there tonight and take care of business by double-digits.
Kemba Walker continues to have a stellar season, as he is fresh off a 24-point performance in the Hornets last game - a win over Detroit that improved Charlotte to 5-2 against the spread on the road for the season.
The fact Charlotte scores at 116+ points per game for the year should tell you there is offense a-plenty to cover this number against a team that is tallying near the bottom of the league in points per game with just 103+ per contest.
Go ahead and lay it on the road tonight with Charlotte.

Tuesday's comp play is the Under in the Atlanta-Golden State meeting in Oakland.
Things got a little testy last night at the end of regulation in the Warriors OT road loss in Los Angeles to the Clippers, as Kevin Durant wanted the ball, but Draymond Green decided to try and create in the closing seconds of regulation - the clock running out without a shot to force the extra-session.
I expect the Warriors to be a little bit fatigued in this one after playing on the road last night, and this total simply looks a bit too tall for the teams to climb over come the end of the 4 quarters.
The Hawks have posted 102 points or better in each of their last 4 games, but ALL 4 of those games have seen very large totals, and ALL 4 have landed Under the total.
The Warriors did push past the total last night at the Staples Center, but 3 of their last 5 games have held Under the total.
Series numbers show the last pair of meetings, and 4 of the last 6 meetings overall having held Under the total. Not only that, but the Under when these teams meet in Oakland is 5-2-1 the past 8 showdowns.
With Steph Curry still watching from the bench in street clothes, a large chunk of offense is missing from this one, so look for the teams to once again be in the low 100's, and look for the Under to be the play.

Georgia Southern -4.5
Ga Southern starts 2 seniors and 2 juniors. They won 21 games last year and have a solid defensive team with long athletes. They are a contender for the Sun Belt title. GMU was outscored by an average of 3 ppg last year. Look for the home team to win by 8.

I'll take my chances here with LSU to cover the double-digit spread against Memphis. There was a buzz with this Memphis program as soon as Penny Hardaway took over as head coach. He proved right away that he can recruit. That's a really good sign for the future of this program, but I think it has them way overvalued here against a LSU team that is ready to explode in year two under head coach Will Wade. Memphis only beat Tennessee Tech by 15 at home and the Eagles are one of the worst teams in the Ohio Valley. The atmosphere will be electric in Baton Rouge for this matchup and I just thing the young Tigers of Memphis will struggle to keep this one competitive. Give me LSU

Jack’s Free Pick Tuesday: Denver Nuggets -4
After opening the season 9-1, the Denver Nuggets have suffered three straight heartbreaking losses to fall to 9-4. They lost by 2 at Memphis, lost by 2 to Brooklyn, and blew a late lead in the last few minutes to lose by 7 to Milwaukee. It’s safe to say they will be highly motivated for a win tonight.
“This is our first little bit of adversity, so we have to respond,” forward Mason Plumlee said after Sunday’s loss. “We have to come out and play really well in our next home game.” I expect the Nuggets to follow suit tonight on Plumlee’s comments.
The Houston Rockets have been overvalued all season. They are just 5-7 SU & 4-8 ATS on the year. They are going through some turmoil right now with the Carmelo Anthony situation, and they are also dealing with some injuries. They will no longer have Anthony, and PJ Tucker and Gerald Green are questionable tonight. They just don’t have very many good players surrounding James Harden, Chris Paul and Clint Cappela anymore.
The Rockets are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning record, including 1-7 ATS in their last eight games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. The Nuggets are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Bet the Nuggets Tuesday.

Marc Lawrence Incredible Stat of the Day:

Denver is 2-12 ATS against Houston when the Nuggets are coming off consecutive SUATS losses, including 1-9 SU and 0-10 ATS when Denver is off a loss of 7 or more points.
