One football game tonight in the MAC, and it is time for the underdog to howl as Ball State hosts Western Michigan.
No question the Broncos own the better record, as they sit at 6-4, but their 6 game win streak is now a thing of the distant past, as Tim Lester's team has sorely missed starting quarterback Jon Wassink's skill-set. Wassink left early back on October 25th in a game the Broncos lost at home to Toledo by a 51-24 score.
In that game, freshman Kaleb Eleby was inserted and played adequately. His next start - also at home - against Ohio on November 1st saw him produce only 14 points, as the Broncos defense was shredded again, this time for 59 points!
Ball State's offense is not one that is going to move it up and down the field and score in droves, and they will also be playing without their starting signal caller, as Riley Neal is out once again, and it will be Drew Plitt to start for the second time in a row.
Ball State is mired in a 3 game straight up and against the spread slide, and they are also on an 0-4 series slide to Western, getting taking to the woodshed, 55-3 last year when the teams played!
With Western Michigan just 1-4 against the spread their last 5 when listed as the favorite, I will look for this road impost to be a little too much for the freshman quarterback to get on top of.
Close one for a change in this series. Take the Cards plus the points in the MAC for Tuesday.
