• Agriculture Secretary changes rules on school lunches to reduce whole grain requirements, ditch fat-free milk rule and stop further cuts in salt levels
 • Press release announcing change is headlined 'make school meals great again'
 • Also ended is Met Girls Learn push for female access to education around the world, with Peace Corps ending it with immediate effect

Schools won't have to cut the salt in meals just yet and they can serve kids fewer whole grains, under changes to federal nutrition standards announced Monday.
The move by the Trump administration rolls back rules championed by former first lady Michelle Obama as part of her healthy eating initiative - and was announced in a press release headlined 'making school meals great again'.
And the same time, the Let Girls Learn initiative has been abolished, Peace Corps employees were told.
As his first major action in office, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said the department will delay the requirement on lowering the amount of sodium in meals while continuing to allow waivers for regulations that all grains on the lunch line must be rich in whole grains.

Schools could also serve 1 percent milk instead of the nonfat now required.
'If kids aren't eating the food, and it's ending up in the trash, they aren't getting any nutrition - thus undermining the intent of the program,' said Perdue, who traveled to a school in Leesburg, Virginia, to make the announcement.
Perdue, a former governor of Georgia, said some schools in the South have had problems with grits, because 'the whole grain variety has little black flakes in it' and kids won't eat it.
'The school is compliant with the whole-grain requirements, but no one is eating the grits,' Perdue said. 'That doesn't make any sense.'

[h=2]Rent a former president[/h]Rough speaking fees for former presidents who are on the circuit:

 • Bill Clinton: $250,000 (raised his fee to match Hillary's when hers went up after she was SecState)
 • George W. Bush: $200,000
 • Barack Obama: $400,000
Note: These are averages — it's more if speech is overseas; less if it's local.
Bonus scoop: Michelle Obama books for $200,000.
Double bonus: Hard to imagine Hillary not going back out — if not for the money, for the people, attention and crowds. It's not good to lower your "fee," but that doesn't mean she won't accept lower offers.

[h=1]Presidential Executive Order Addressing Trade Agreement Violations and Abuses[/h]

EXECUTIVE ORDER- - - - - - -ADDRESSING TRADE AGREEMENT VIOLATIONS AND ABUSES
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows:
Section 1. Policy. Every trade agreement and investment agreement entered into by the United States, and all trade relations and trade preference programs of the United States, should enhance our economic growth, contribute favorably to our balance of trade, and strengthen the American manufacturing base. Many United States free trade agreements, investment agreements, and trade relations have failed, in whole or in part, to meet these criteria. The result has been large and persistent trade deficits, a lack of reciprocal treatment of American goods and investment, the offshoring of factories and jobs, the loss of American intellectual property and reduced technological innovation, downward pressure on wage and income growth, and an impaired tax base. It is the policy of the United States to negotiate new trade agreements, investment agreements, and trade relations that benefit American workers and domestic manufacturers, farmers, and ranchers; protect our intellectual property; and encourage domestic research and development. It is also the policy of the United States to renegotiate or terminate any existing trade agreement, investment agreement, or trade relation that, on net, harms the United States economy, United States businesses, United States intellectual property rights and innovation rate, or the American people.
Sec. 2. Conduct Performance Reviews. The Secretary of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative (USTR), in consultation with the Secretary of State, the Secretary of the Treasury, the Attorney General, and the Director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, shall conduct comprehensive performance reviews of:
(a) all bilateral, plurilateral, and multilateral trade agreements and investment agreements to which the United States is a party; and
(b) all trade relations with countries governed by the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) with which the United States does not have free trade agreements but with which the United States runs significant trade deficits in goods.
Sec. 3. Report of Violations and Abuses. (a) Each performance review shall be submitted to the President by the Secretary of Commerce and the USTR within 180 days of the date of this order and shall identify:
(i) those violations or abuses of any United States trade agreement, investment agreement, WTO rule governing any trade relation under the WTO, or trade preference program that are harming American workers or domestic manufacturers, farmers, or ranchers; harming our intellectual property rights; reducing our rate of innovation; or impairing domestic research and development;
(ii) unfair treatment by trade and investment partners that is harming American workers or domestic manufacturers, farmers, or ranchers; harming our intellectual property rights; reducing our rate of innovation; or impairing domestic research and development;
(iii) instances where a trade agreement, investment agreement, trade relation, or trade preference program has failed with regard to such factors as predicted new jobs created, favorable effects on the trade balance, expanded market access, lowered trade barriers, or increased United States exports; and
(iv) lawful and appropriate actions to remedy or correct deficiencies identified pursuant to subsections (a)(i) through (a)(iii) of this section.
(b) The findings of the performance reviews required by this order shall help guide United States trade policy and trade negotiations.
Sec. 4. Remedy of Trade Violations and Abuses. The Secretary of Commerce, the USTR, and other heads of executive departments and agencies, as appropriate, shall take every appropriate and lawful action to address violations of trade law, abuses of trade law, or instances of unfair treatment.
Sec. 5. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:
(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or
(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.
(b) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.
(c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

Ending "Let Girls Learn" program = a victory for radical islam IMO

(CNN)Hours after CNN reported on an internal document advising administration employees that former first lady Michelle Obama's signature education initiative would not be maintained, the White House said the program had not changed.

"There have been no changes to the program," said Kelly Love, a White House spokeswoman, referring to the "Let Girls Learn" initiative, which Obama launched in 2015.

The White House's response came after an internal Trump administration document showed plans to end the "Let Girls Learn" program, which facilitates educational opportunities for adolescent girls in developing countries.
"Moving forward, we will not continue to use the 'Let Girls Learn' brand or maintain a stand-alone program," read an email sent to Peace Corps employees this week by the agency's acting director Sheila Crowley.

" 'Let Girls Learn' provided a platform to showcase the Peace Corps' strength in community development, shining a bright light on the work of our Volunteers all over the world," Crowley wrote. "We are so proud of what 'Let Girls Learn' accomplished and we have all of you to thank for this success."

The White House originally referred questions about the program to representatives for first lady Melania Trump, who declined to comment.
In their comment, the White House did not say whether "Let Girls Learn" would be maintained in the future as a standalone program -- and they also did not directly address the memo or why it had been sent.

In the agency memo, Crowley indicated that aspects of the initiative's programming focusing on girls education around the world would continue, a sentiment reinforced in a statement from a Peace Corps spokesman on Monday.

"The Peace Corps continues to prioritize girls' education and empowerment programming," the spokesman said. "Girls' education and empowerment has been a hallmark of our work over the past 56 years and we look forward to continuing those efforts with our interagency partners. We remain dedicated to the passionate work of our volunteers and staff to empower and educate girls in their communities."

A spokesperson for the United States Agency for International Development -- which, along with the Peace Corps, implements the "Let Girls Learn" program -- also said the organization would continue to support girls educational programs.

"The administration supports policies and programs to empower adolescent girls, including efforts to educate them through the completion of secondary school," said the USAID spokesperson. "We are committed to empowering women and girls around the world and are continuing to examine the best ways to do so."

The USAID spokesperson declined to comment on whether the agency would continue to use the "Let Girls Learn" branding or operate the program as a standalone entity.

WASHINGTON — President Trump, who has struggled to press his agenda in Washington but has shown a knack for unsettling opponents and triggering protests, has also become an unprecedented lightning rod for federal lawsuits filed by plaintiffs across the country seeking court relief on an unusually broad array of issues.

Trump has been sued 134 times in federal court since he was sworn into office, according to a Globe tally based on federal court databases, nearly three times the number of his three predecessors in their early months combined.
The dramatic uptick in litigation – Barack Obama faced 26 suits at this point in his first year, while George W. Bush had seven, and Bill Clinton, 15.

[h=1]Trump to light White House blue to honor police[/h]
President Trump announced Monday that he'll light the White House blue to honor police officers for Monday's Peace Officer Memorial Day.
The president signed a proclamation Monday declaring the day "Peace Officer Memorial Day" and the upcoming week "Police Week." At the signing ceremony, Trump said that he would also request that American flags fly at half-mast to memorialize fallen officers, according to a pool report.
"During Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week, we honor the men and women of law enforcement who have been killed or disabled in the course of serving our communities. Police officers are the thin blue line whose sacrifices protect and serve us every day, and we pledge to support them as they risk their lives to safeguard ours," Trump said in the text of the proclamation.

Presidents sometimes light up the iconic residence to promote various causes. Trump previously lit the White House blue in recognition of World Autism Awareness Day. And former President Barack Obama lit the White House in a rainbow pattern to celebrate the Supreme Court's decision legalizing gay marriage nationwide. azzkick(&^
