Tell me how much sense this trade makes, The mets all off season have been shopping Dickey. With the signing of Hamilton the Angels have a surplus at OF. One of, if not the biggest, needs for the Mets is a righty power bat in the OF.
The Angels have Vernon Wells and Peter Bourjos sitting on the bench. The Angels organization was high on Bourjous and he would be a perfect lead off hitter, meaning you could slide Trout into the 5th spot. If they wanna start Wells they could slide him into the 5th spot instead.
The Angels missed out on the Grienke sweepstakes, they acquired Joe Blanton and Tommy Hanson, But their still one pitcher short for a solid starting 5.
On the Met side, we arent built to compete this year. Were still a solid year away or so and we most likely wont be signing Dickey. We have a backlog of SP's waiting to come up. I think our rotation would be amazing with Johan, Niese, Harvey, Wheeler, and Gee. The middle 3 could be as dominent as they come in a few years (Niese perhaps not as much potential to be that pitcher then the other 2.)
Trumbo fills one of our 3 biggest holes (Righty Power OF, catcher, RP)
3-Wright
4-Davis
5-Trumbo
That's as solid of a 3,4,5, as your gonna find in the NL, and probably the best in the NL east.
We were in talks with Texas about Mike Alt for Dickey, but the Mets wanted more. And Alt wasnt a OF so there would be a transition period, which trumbo has already gone through. Nl cy young for a big righty bat sounds like a great trade for the Mets...
