i prefer to play several, especially on busy sports days. the majority of my bets i keep small, whereas i only make 1 or 2 big plays a day, if that.
so, i guess as far as making a bet large enough to really impact my bankroll, i prefer to just do one a day, and that's if only i feel like i got a good one. otherwise, i just play small ball with my other bets.

Depends what kind of bettor you are. If you are playing more units per game than the average Joe, a 1 to 2 game card is what you are looking for. If you express money management like there's no tomorrow, a 10+ card game is for you. Here is a good example...

I would say yes, only a couple games per day, if we want to keep it simple and not factor in other things...

I voted false. Like TomG said, you should bet every game you have an edge in. If you don't have an edge in your games, the fewer games you bet the better. Obviously.
If you don't have a successful handicapping program then you should definitely be a spot better and bet very few games. Less than 1 game a day even.
I know of a guy that bet 1 game in his life. He faded his favorite team for 30k and won. He ended his gambling career up 30k. Not many can say that.

The old school mantra of "only use one to three" selections per day or even "five" for one NFL week (ala the Hilton contest) has been shoved to the side along with 8-track players, rotary dial telephones and Sony Walkmans (heh)
From about Aug 20- Jan 20, most of us - thanks to offshore books - will have access on any given day to between 100-300 different offerings when you consider MLB/NFL/CFB/NHL/NBA/CBB (baseball ends about a month before CBB begins) Full Game Sides, Totals, 1H Sides/Totals, 2H Sides/Totals and for most of us access to playing individual Quarters or Periods in each game.
Presuming you are a diligent capper of one to two sports, it's not unreasonable you can find a legitimate edge in 10+ selections per day. And then by associating with reliable information provided in forums like the Rx from people who specialize in sports which you don't have time or interest to properly cap, you can add another 10+ with little problem.
This active pace does DEMAND stern money management and most especially not Exposing more than a percentage or two of your Bank to any one selection.
Playing 20 selections can be very profitable, but it does also expose you to possible 5-15 days. If you're only exposing 1% of your bank, that can be absorbed. However if you expose 5% or more of your bank and have that result, you can be wiped out in just a couple days.
It seems a lot of people are saying that if You Cap your games, you can play 3+ games a day.
Others are saying, if you find an Edge....Just play those.

If I think I have an edge making a bet, I will bet this line. It doesn't really matter to me, if I end up with 1, 2 or 15 wagers for a certain day as long as I think, the book made a mistake with that certain number or spread for a game.
I love betting player props, especially on pitchers in baseball, and due to the limits I can't put more than 200-250$ on a single prop bet most of the time. But depending on the schedule and the lines there are mostly between 2-10 prop bets alone any given night, I really like because of the imo soft lines and most of the time there are 1-4 money- or runlines, totals or 1st 5 inning wagers in addition to that.
Besides that I follow some guys and have regularly action on some soccer games from different European leagues.
Of corse, like bas said, I could put my stake on the game with the biggest edge in my opinion, but I like to spread my action a little bit and don't want to have too much money riding on a single game/bet, but on the other hand I also want to get as much of my bankroll as possible into play every night in +EV bets.
Another advantage would be limits: If I wanted to put my total stake for a given night on one single game, I could get into trouble because of limits (f.e. propbets for MLB or some exotic soccer league like 4th division Norway or 3rd division Poland)...
