Crate train them instantly. If you haven't gotten one, that would be my first purchase.

In April I had to put my 18 yr old dog to sleep. Now very lonely without a pet looking to get 2 puppies at a place called Petland. Heard that they have protesters in front of their store. What happens at puppymills?

Important to have a routine. Females are much easier to train than males.

Please don't!! They charge 3x more for their dogs than they should and breed them 30x more than they should while caging them for their whole lives while malnourishing them and basically abusing them. Please don't!!

I can post some pics of dogs that came in from a puppy mill this week to the shelter here, but it will sicken you, as it does me constantly. We need stricter laws and all puppy mills should be shutdown.

Harley spent 10 years living in a small cage in a puppy mill. Close to death, he was rescued 3 years ago and found a loving home where he continues to heal, both physically and emotionally. Harley is now a spokesdog against puppy mills and has his own campaign, "Harley to the Rescue", saving dogs from mills. He is a magical little guy and can even talk! Harley is loved beyond measure. Out of curiosity I will check out Petland to see the conditions of their puppies.

It's not the puppies, but the parents that have to live in such terrible condition. Why not stop by a shelter instead

Patience and persistence. Don't push the pup too hard. They get mental fatigue while training. Reward for good things, and not always treats. Praise is great. Building confidence is key.

We rescued a 2 year old female greyhound and it took 4 very long 4 months to get her through basic commands and comfortable being in a home. There were times I didn't think I would have the patience. However, at 4 months it was like a light bulb went on and she took hold of everything.

We also did the basic training course at PetsMart. Helped all of us to at least get started, then worked on things everyday.

Have fun, it's pretty awesome.

Because they have older dogs rather than puppies.

I know they do have a larger percentage of older animals but if you google your city name and "animal shelter" you will probably find a site with a few puppies.

That's not true at all. Shelters are slam full of newborn puppies right now. It's that season...they're killing 20-30 a day here sometimes because it's puppy season. Plus, puppies aren't for everyone...

I can even get a dog transported to you almost anywhere from the shelter here also. The networking is amazing these days. Folks that run puppy mills, and stores like Petland make our battle so much harder than it should be...
