Took my kids to the local store yesterday for memories.

We would go as tradition in December for the Christmas-feel.

Employees inside said they were closing by end of the month.

back in the day we used to buy the "jordan jammer" which was an indoor plastic basketball hoop.. and then load it with all sorts of other stuff as
that box was always lots of room in it .. that was always a big score for us at 12-13 years old

had a pre existing back injury that he previously got a settlement for .. lawyer was able to prove that he healed form prior injury and was re-injured
on the new slip and fall at toys r us ..this was mid 90's not sure they would settle nowadays .. being sexually harrassed by an employer is the new "getting hit by a vehicle owned by a municipality"

Toys 'R' Us founder Charles Lazarus dies [h=2]Charles Lazarus, who founded Toys "R" Us 70 years ago, died Thursday, a week after the company announced it will be forced to shut down its U.S. operations.[/h]Lazarus, 94, no longer held a stake in the chain. He started the company in 1948 when he was 25, anticipating that the post-war baby boom would create demand for baby supplies and toys. He remained CEO until 1994.
"He was the father of the toy business," said Michael Goldstein, who succeed him as CEO. "He knew the toys and loved the toys and loved the kids who would shop in the stores. His face lit up when he watched kids playing with toys."
His death was confirmed by the company.

disagree, more choices than ever.. Toys R Us had plenty of time to change their business model, and could have done it. I feel for the employees that are losing their jobs more than anything else. I know most are probably low wage, but the career guys in management that have put their lives into it that have to start over.

Come on man, you act like it's simple for a retail dinosaur like that to compete with walmart, amazon, and a generally declining trend in brick and mortar retail demand. The B&M retail chains who are succeeding in today's environment are the ones who are able to offer specialized product lines, because it's simply impossible to compete with the ecom giants on delivery speed, price, or breadth of offerings.
