Fred posted something similar once and I found it to be hilarious, it's even funnier now that I see how true it is. Why is it a "blast" to moderate these places......
- Because if you let a loud mouth continue to act like a jerk 53% will say you are losing control of the board, if you ban the guy the other 47% will say you are going overboard and on a power trip.
- If you stop a guy from repeatedly trashing a book he doesn't like than 48% will say you are covering up and the players need to know that stuff, if you delete the thread the other 52% say you are playing favoritism and would never do that against an advertiser.
- If you post on a player's behalf and try to help him get his money than 50% will say you are badmouthing a book because he doesn't advertise with you, if you side with the book the other 50% say you are a sell out and probably getting match plays on the side.
- If you edit a borderline post with racism involved than about half will say you are being a stick in the mud and crippling free speech, "heck we are all gamblers here I didn't take it that way". If it's close and you let it stand the other half will swear you are a racist and condoning what the poster wrote.
- If we edit a guy in the political forum than 50% of the folks (USA haters) will be outraged we said anything to him and picking on him for his views, the other 50% (USA lovers) will be ready to leave if we don't do something.
- We often hear from posters all day long about how can you allow that in off-shore??!? How is that gambling related? Two days later that same person is asking about the local Avon representative in off-shore and is ready to leave for greener pastures if you move it.
- We ban a guy like Beantown than 45% of the people will say what took you so long to ban that idiot, 49% will say how can you ban Beaner he's what makes it fun here. The other 6% either won't know who Beaner is or they are getting ready to follow him to the next forum.
- If there is industry wide concern about one of your advertisers and you leave him up 75% will swear the RX only cares about money and never looks out for the players, if you pull him down because you think it's right than the other 25% will then swear you have an agenda and are probably trying to extort the book.
LOL! I can go on and on. Of course this is mostly tongue in cheek but it is true in a lot of ways. Usually about 90% of the forum is fine and understands you are running a business. They know we try and hear all sides but we can not do everything just the way they would. They offer suggestions but move on quickly if the call goes against them. The other 10% will be upset if you change the black ink to dark black ink. They don't care what you do but are looking to garner attention and will usually never stop until banned. Though they are the minority they will scream louder than the other 90% combined, LOL. Keep in mind if a decision does not go your way we are not trying to show you up or making a call against you personally. There are people on both sides of the fence on just about every thing we do. It's damn near impossible to please everyone here as with over 12000 members there are 12000 people smarter than you watching your every move.
This place does a lot and while we are not perfect we put in tons of effort, we really do. We have a free Live Line service that took a lot of work and dedication, we are very proud of it. We have raised the standards of the avertisers we have here. I remember the books some used to try and get on board here, you won't see Pro 5 or Yahoops these days. Also when we think a book is in danger we try and take them down before trouble starts, not after the players get stiffed and are wondering what is going on. We also do a tremendous amount of work for players that a lot of people do not know about. Probably never will either. I can't ever remember not trying to help a player, we don't always win but we always put forth full effort. Even other sites often send players our way to help them, can't think of anything I am more satisfied with than that. In addition we are putting together a nice party in Las Vegas for our readers and hope to do something like this every year. Not all can come this year but it will grow and become an annual event for us. And lastly we try and throw out a big array of contests for our readers. We will have over 5 football contests going on this season for posters who like that sort of stuff and are giving away money every week in baseball. Just like hockey, basketball, football etc...
Its a lot of work here but I admit it is also a lot of fun. All of us who work here get along well and we try to do what we think is best. We had over 350 people just the last month register and if we have to ban 5 or 6 some people don't understand it. These forums always evolve and some of the posters who loved you 6 months ago may not care for you now, we don't like it but we understand it. Just try and keep in mind it is not as easy as it looks to keep everyone happy but we are always open for suggestions. Sorry for the commerical but in life people like to talk on the negative stuff, once in a while we want to talk on the good stuff too. We have been getting a lot of positive feedback so I know we are headed the right way, we appreciate all of you who have stuck with us and are helping us along. With your help we are only going to get stronger and stronger down the road. It's been a great ride so far, thanks for being such a big part of it.
