Was looking up some of the top guys predicted for the Heisman this year and thought this article had a good top 5. Also found it interesting the diff in this guys list with the Vegas odds. Vegas has Auburn's Jeremy Johnson in the top 4 but they hadn't been to high on Auburn as a team it has seemed to me so far.

Who do you guys like as a Heisman threat this year?

Scratch Dak Prescott. Imo, he'll be lucky to finish Top 3 in the SEC alone as a player, much less have a chance to win the Heisman.

QBs are the obvious choice for heisman favorites because they touch the ball the most and are now in the minds of every voter.
For what it's worth this would be my top 5 in order from descending order, number 1 being the early favorite.

1) trevone Boykin- that offense keeps their foot on the gas pedal all game long (something I wish the ducks would do more of) so expect some unreal numbers
2) JT Barrett - I think he will be the starter and deserves to be after amassing a great year before injury. He could light the big 10 up.
3) Ezekiel Elliot - he became the nations most productive back his last 5 games and is poised to have another amazing year with what should be better numbers
4) Derek Henry- this dude seems more like a linebacker than a RB but I thinks he's one of the most powerful runners I've seen in quite sometime. I imagine Alabama will lean on him heavily this year, so I could see something of the 1,750 yards 17tds range...
5) samaje perine- if healthy they should ride this dude all year and he could foreseeably get to 2,000 yards.

here are five more, in no particular order, guys to watch

Ox, Auburn's Jeremy Johnson may just be the best QB in the SEC this year. Will he win the Heisman? Nope.

Tiger coach Gus Malzahn gushes when talking about Johnson. Best arm in the conference...without question.

Last year Auburn had an athlete at QB...this season they have a QB playing the position. Dude is special.

You're right, I'd think Dak would have to be superman to lead MSU to another year like they had last year with all the losses they have had.

Anxious to see what JJ has got. Very intriguing!

i'm sure a qb will win it but the #1 RB should be James Conner. Narduzzi came right out and said he is not afraid to give this kid 400 touches this year. Conner put up 1765 rushing yards + 26 TD and was really only used on first and second down by the bumbling moron, Paul Chryst. Nard feels this kid has to be on the field all 3 downs so expect this 5 catches from last year to be more like 20 this year. If he's getting the 30 carries and 2 catches per game that Nard is targeting he could approach 2300-2500 total yards. But still won't be good enough for a heisman if there's a 10+ win qb having a big year

Lol only a guy in Pittsburgh would think for 1 second a Pitt player could be considered for heisman. He's on a shit team in a shit conference. He has 0 chance.

You also said TJ Clemmings was a top 10 pick and he went round 4.

This is the definition of a homer.

No player on Pitt has a chance of winning the Heisman. Pitt will be lucky to win 7 games this season, and that does not cut it with Heisman voters. Conner is nothing but a big lumbering RB that will get his yards after the outcome of the games are decided.

Dak Prescott is another hyped up player that has no shot. He may not be the best QB in the SEC, much less the nation. Miss. State is another team that will be lucky to win 7 games, even with a cream puff non-con schedule. I see 4 away losses, all in conference, and and losses to Alabama and LSU at home.

Samaje Perine is another over hyped RB. Good, but nowhere near Heisman quality. Are you really trying to sell us that he may be better than Ohio State's Ezekiel Elliott? No way. OU would have to win the Big 12 (which is not going to happen) for Perine to have a legitimate shot.

No Ohio State QB will win. Both are good, but do not come close to TCU's Boykin. The two very good QB's in the Pac 12 are better than any Ohio State QB. Ohio State will also split their votes up amongst their players, so one will have to be very solid, ala Reggie Bush who beat out previous Heisman winner and teammate Matt Leinart.

Jt barret could easily win the heisman, stays healthy and puts up gaudy numbers, the team will likely go undefeated, hard to bet against him. Boykin is the for sure early favorite, but with a loss it could hurt him big time, probably won't knock him out of the race but would definitely bump him back...

samaje perine is the one person nobody talks about and I don't understand why. I never said he was as good as Elliot from OSU but he could have better numbers because of a weaker conference in terms of defense. Think about how many times they are going to feed him the rock especially with a possible QB controversy at the beginning of the year. It's not unfathomable to see him have 2-3 games with 250+ yards. Oklahoma has built a nice foundation for NFL ready backs who put up big numbers. If Oklahoma can find a way to win 9 games and perine puts up 2,000 yards with 20+tds tell me how he's not in the conversation as a serious contender??? He may not win the heisman but that's exactly why I put him in MY top 5. You have the right to disagree and that's ok. But don't put me on blast because you can't understand simple logic. Did Manziel play on a one loss team when e won it....? No.... What helped him was a key victory over bama and big numbers...:. What if Oklahoma stuns Baylor or tcu? There's the key moment, all he would need after that is the stats, which I can easily see him obtaining.

with all that being said I think this will be a 2-3 horse race early on between Barrett, Elliott, and Derek Henry.... But my feeling is someone outside those 3 could easily win it. Lots of opportunities for a lot of guys if one team or player slips up

Everything with Perine will depend on how much OC Riley is going to get Mixon involved in the running game too. Barry Switzer thinks Mixon is the best RB OU has had since A. Peterson. The most interesting part will see how much a pass happy OC uses the running game. Many OU fans think it will be business as usual and they'll slant heavily towards the run with these two studs. But I've seen these kinds of OC's operate, and many simply can't help themselves when it comes to passing the ball. So we'll see. I think this is a very strong RB season, and many teams have a legit argument for having the best RB. So if there's ever a year that a QB doesn't win the Heisman, it's this year.

A little orange kool aid here! Darkhorse...all depending on health...BUT if he stays healthy, Deshaun Watson will put up HUGE numbers...last year, WHEN HEALTHY, he was like a more composed Jameis Winston( 14tds 2 ints, 188 rating)...ton of receiving weapons (new WRU), OCs that want to push tempo more than Chad Morris...no legit kicker (ours is suspended for blow) which means maybe going for it in redzone....a bunch of good not great rbs meaning no featured workhorse...a favorable schedule and chance to win 10-11 games and compete for acc and playoff spot...defense takes a step back which means more shoot outs...IF he stays healthy, I'm seeing 65-70% comp, 4000+ yds and 35-40 tds and 5 ints. Puts him in convo!

There shouldn't be any "realistic" top 5 that includes a runningback, let alone #1 and #2. Not that I disagree that they aren't talents deserving of hardware, it's just the nature of the Heisman being a QB award. Today you can rush for 2500 yards and not even come close to winning the Heisman. 25 years ago that would have swept all voting regions.

exactly

we just had a kid run for >2500 yards + 30 TD's and, briefly, set the all time single game rushing record and rec'd 4% of the first place votes

Nobody talking Vernon Adams huh?

Nah. Everybody's just listing the best player on their favorite team. Therxhomers.com lol.

Besides, the guy hasn't practiced with Oregon yet. One would have to be an idiot to consider him. Or a homer.

You guys amaze me. This is why the books make billions. Only like 2 guys in this thread are being unb iased and not talking about their local heros

Jeez Chris, take it easy, all the guys in the thread have a reasonable
shot. They're at least worthy of being mentioned. And it makes sense that you would make a case for a guy on your favorite team because that's who you know the best. I like getting feedback from "experts." Besides, it's usually someone lesser known that wins anyway, right???
