The best band that I've ever seen live besides the Springsteen E-Street Band is Procol Harum. It has been a big snub not putting them in. If for no other reason than their huge hit "whiter shade of pale". Plus this was the best British progressive rock act of the era. They made Genisis sound like amatuers. The Sex Pistols should have never been inducted. They were just a bunch of obnoxious drug abusing punks who put out one bad record. They should have limited the punk acts to just the Clash. They were the only real significant punk act who had a hint of talent.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your asshole. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

Genesis and Phil Collins have lots and lots of material........I only started listening to Genesis material a while ago when I was watching "Cold Case" (one of my favorite series) and they featured a Genesis song (sung by Collins)

It would take quite a bit of time to study the 'Peter Gabriel' area.....I guess I will go there......as soon as I am done with Gordon Lightfoot :)

Cant necessarily disagree with any of the snubs but KISS.

Their music sucked. They were a Freak Circus Show band that put on a good live show. Put them in the Freak Show Hall of Fame. Leave them out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Gary Brooker was a great singer for Procol. And let's not forget they had Robin Trower on guitar. They also had a relative unknown drummer named B.J.Wilson that was so good that the band had him playing on the front of the stage with everybody else instead of behind the band. He was a British military drummer at one time. And he had a different style than anybody I've seen. He even held his drumsticks military drummer style. Many people consider Keith Moon to be the best rock drummer of all time. But Moon once said that Wilson was the best drummer that he ever saw. You might be able to see some of their clips in YouTube.

Joe Elliot would be the first person to tell anyone that would listen that Def Leopard shouldn't be in the HOF before Mott The Hoople is (and Mott The Hoople is never getting in because the RNR HOF is a big joke).

The people that made this list are also a joke. "Pat Benatar"? Is that supposed to be an attempt at humor?

Mott The Hoople was another great band. I did alot of my mid 70's cruising around to their music. Singer Ian Hunter is also a great solo artist.

Normally that's how I learn about great musicians, when I heard Limelight from APP I researched about the band.......found about Gary Brooker and (through different APP songs) Colin Blunstone and John Miles...later on I got into John Miles music a lot

these days is much easier to learn about 'great/relatively obscure musicians' ......I cant imagine doing that when I was in my early 20s (when the internet was just 'kicking into' what it is today)

Kraftwerk definitely. i recall my buddies and me smoking weed and listening to the double lp with the spiral cover. we laughed like crazy. their early stuff is the best.

songs: ruckzuck.....antenna.....autobahn....nothing really impressed me after the trans europe express album.

kraftwerks shit sells for a good buck on ebay.

Here's a clip from Procol Harum doing a live version Salty Dog. This song builds up to a nice crescendo. You can also catch B.J. Wilson's unusual military style drumming at the begining of this song. Wilso died just a few years ago. I don't know how to do this embedded thing. So here's the link:

You mentioned Colin Blundstone. He was another great singer. He was the smooth voice on the song "Time Of The Season" when he sang for The Zombies. Another really good band that deserves Hall Of Fame induction. Here's a clip from another good song from them called She's Not There. Blundstone acts a little gay in this clip. But he was a hell of a singer. Rod Argent is playing keyboards. And he later started a pretty good band of his own:

NES and I don't agree on many things, but looks like we agree on
the above.
