And nearly all the dissenting votes were his own party. He needed the 'tories' to get a win.
He would have lost it otherwise.

If the tories (The Conservatives: A British type of Republican who pretend to be human so that they can get votes) hadn't voted with him he would have been stuffed.

And they almost NEVER vote with Labour.

And they didn't vote for Tony, they voted for George, in the hope that they can call in the favour once they get into power.

Politics is a practical business.

EEK - You are incorrect. More than 50% of the Labour Party MP's voted for Blair's position. The BBC web site says that if 165 had voted against the measure, that would have represented over 50% of the Labour Party MP's. In total, only 149 voted against. Therefore, Blair received approx. 55% of the Labour MP votes. So in fact, the Conservative MP's did not swing the vote. Had the Conservatives only voted 50-50 for and against, the measure would still have passed.

Put simply, tory MPs dont vote for labour.
The tories and Labour are political enemies.
The max number of rebel tories that should vote with Labour on various issues is less than a dozen.

Believe me man. They didnt do it for Tony. No way.

As for George, thats a different story, now he'll be VERY grateful.
