Quarterback Tommy Maddox is disappointed the Steelers have chosen not to renegotiate a contract that he signed a year ago and will pay him $275,000 less than his backup, Charlie Batch. "I guarantee you it's probably the first time in NFL history that it's happened," Maddox said of making less money than the backup quarterback. "I would be lying if I said it's not disappointing. It's a hard situation. But it's the situation that we're in.

They didn't twist his arm to sign that 2 year contract. The Steelers took a big chance on offering a $450,000 2 year deal to an insurance salesman who played most recently in the XFL. With incentives he will make about a million. The Steelers also fear he will be a one year wonder ala Kordell. He will get his millions if he puts up the numbers one more time.

I agree. Let him earn his money like the rest of us in the real world. There have been too many guys like Rob Johnson that have a few good games after the starter gets hurt (In Jacksonville), sign big contracts for multi-millions then end up a big flop when they are given a full chance.

Football has it right.

It's pathetic to see a baseball player who hits 250 sign for 5 million a year.

What a disgrace. Maddox is a super star. Like I said he would be when they signed him...

I think they should renegotiate his contract the minute a player who has a bad year asks for less money than his contract calls for.

AHAHA, you said Maddox is a "Superstar"... What a crock of you know what. The guy had one good year as did Kordell Stewart the year before him. It is the coordinator, he makes the game plan simple stupid and knows how to run things. We were discussing this the other day in work and I will stick by this when I say it, CHARLIE BATCH is better then Maddox anyday of the week. He would do just as good, if not better then him given an opportunity in that system.

I'm just saying why would the Steelers invest in a washed up former first rounder? This guy doesn't have any special attributes. If he is going to whine cut him at the end of the year and let Batch play and start looking in the draft for QB's of the future.

He signed the contract. This is the main thing that's wrong with professional sports today. A guy signs a multi year deal, has a good year and then wants to renegotiate. Too bad. Then he should have signed a 1 yr deal. If he doesn't like it then he can go get a real job.

By the way, I think he's a 1 year wonder and is a backup NFL quarterback, at best.

lol superstar?!?! get real

PS, if holcomb wins the job in Cleveland he will be making 575,000 to his backups (couch) 6 million.

I am pretty sure that Kurt Warner made less money than Trent Green during his first year as a starter.

I guess the cowboys should have been good last year with their Guru offensive coordinator.

Terryj, Cowboys will never be sucessful with Quincy Carter at the helm. Bill Parcells is a complete clown for laughing at the thought of signing Brian Griese. Parcells took a shot at Griese and said he wasnt interested in being 8-8, so he had no interest in signing Brian Griese! ...........What a moron he is! So he would rather be 4-12 with the clowns he has at QB now?!!.

good qbs can excel without tons of talent around them, Maddox, Griese, Manning all got exposed when the talent around them was not superior to the defenses they were facing.

On the bright side, at least Griese isnt in "Akili Smith" category.......What a complete waste of time the Packers are using giving this guy a tryout, and Cowboys fans had better look to someone to lead their team in the future, because Quincy Carter is Akili's clone!
