I wasn't able to get into Wagerweb or CRIS. Now I am able to. I have RR. I know this is a stupid question but it has been a long time since I had dial up. If I wanted to have dial up along with keeping my roadrunner do I just need to get one of those free disks that they have at stores like CompUSA?

I use Comcast and haven't been able to get to Matchbook all day.

I use Comcast & am in just fine.

There have been DNS issues yesterday and today-they are local\regional and usually come & go over a 10 min-8 hour period.

Without getting technical, it's an internet thing(DNS).

You can sign up online somewhere once you find a place/rate you like.

It wasn't that long ago when Sean said there was ZERO chance that any sites would get blocked at the ISP level.

Yup, there was a thread about this earlier on BetCRIS.

I have Orlando Roadrunner, Cris, Wagerweb, and matchbook are all down for me. Pokerstars should be on it's way down as well.

All three of those work when I use kproxy.com though. If this doesn't change in the next few days I'm cancelling my ISP.

There job is not to govern what I'm doing, thats the governments job. Fuckers.

Can't access Wagerweb or Betcris on Roadrunner. No problem with dialup. I already called and canceled. Guess they don't like my business. I encourage every other gambler to cancel and let them know why this week. Just ordered DSL from earthlink. It's about 1/2 price.

Sean

I'm on Roadrunner and have been having similar problems....since its acting like a DNS problem I'm thinking that's the issue and not a Roadrunner blocking effort. My guess is the gambling bit in their terms of service is more of a "CYA" type thing--if they were going to start selectively blocking sites there's plenty of others they should do before gaming sites.

Besides, if this is the case why would they single out BetCRIS and WagerWeb? I've been able to access every other gaming site in the world over the past couple of days.

In fact, the problem may now be solved--I just accessed both sites on my laptop at my local espresso bar that also uses Roadrunner. Through the magic of remote access, I'm about to check it out on my home computer as well...hold for the results : )

Yep--both sites come up on my home computer with no problem whatsoever. I have to admit that when BetCRIS didn't come up yesterday this was my first thought, but I think the previous poster was right about this being a DNS issue...

It's very localized, but IMO Roadrunner has always been a pretty good outfit--I get screaming fast speed at home and they very seldom have downtime...

Fortunately, this looks like a false alarm

One more time....I THINK THIS IS A DNS (INTERNET) ISSUE (NOT SITE BLOCKING).

Maybe I'm wrong, but the internet issues in the last 2 days have not be limited to books.

http://217.75.8.138 Does this work for any of you who can't get to them at www.matchbook.com?

Don't hold your breath, people were having problems before today. Mine just stopped working this morning. They're probably progressively blocking sites by regions over the next few weeks.

User agreen has a source maybe he can elaborate on it:

"Time Warner (RoadRunner) in NYC has blocked several web sites including Wagerweb, matchbook and Cris...Rumor has it that they have Voluntarily started to block gambling web sites..I hate to be a cynic, but this could be the end of off-shore gambling as we know it!"

The sites are back up now, but since I could dial in, they were clearly blocked. This combined with the new gambling terms makes me think Roadrunner took a small sample and blocked to see how consumers would react. If you block 10,000 people and see how many cancel you have a clue when you discuss blocking millions of people...

Again, I think this was a DNS thing--I host several websites myself and occassionally problems like this will pop up. Someone will tell me they can't access my site and I know its up and working.....maybe you're right, but I still stand by my original opinion--there are so many cans of worms that blocking any site would open (like getting the ACLU and Internet Freedom Foundation on our side).

If they block gambling sites, then I will cancel roadrunner. No big deal, they are PLENTY of other services that are just as fast and around the same price

Cris and matchbook are working for me as of 5 minutes ago and I've been checking it every half hour or so. Wagerweb is still down.

Hopefully this is nothing to panic about :dancefool

Agreeen did say that Cris and the other books were aware of it and working around it to fix it, so maybe it will be blocked again later when RR finds out. I JUST DON'T KNOW. I really hope this doesn't continue, I'm going to wait it out for a few days before I do something dramatic.

Try Googling a term like "DNS problems". You'll see that its a very common issue in the Internet world. There are entire sites devoted to solutions to DNS problems for IT people...

Again, this is another problem that the capitalist economy would solve for us should it ever come up. It's a similar situation that happened when a number of ISP's started censoring porn and warez newsgroups on USENET a couple of years ago. A huge market of premium usenet services sprung up advertising uncensored access. For $5 a month the "problem" goes away...
