For those of you who haven't heard we had a near tragedy Sat afternoon around 2:00PM at the Time Out Tavern. One of our propane tanks exploded in our back alley and quickly spread into the bar and kitchen area. One of our patrons called 911 right away and knowing Tico time and how quick a fire spreads I called my wife thanks to our friend Dick lending me his cell.As I called volunteer firemen were arriving and the trucks were shortly behind. How incredible it was. I was in the processes of telling my wife we lost everything. Everything we worked for over the last three years was down the drain. I was devistated and as I write this the tears come to my eyes again.
The offers to help from everyone has been incredible. From volunteering to clean up to donating or fund raising to help us do the repairs. My guess is we have 50K to 100K of work to do. We really found out quickly to what extent we are a central hub to both the expat crowd and our local Tico/latino crowd that had filled the restaurant to watch the Real Madrid vs. Barcelona game. We basically had a fire party with our good friend Jersey Jimmy buying ten pizzas and us having an open bar. That is definitely the irish in us. When tragedy strikes celebrate the good things like everyone being safe to us not totally losing everything.
With your help and support I know we will come back stronger than ever. We plan on doing the remodeling we had talked about doing after next football season since we are in a complete mess already. A special thanks to all the guys in the Sportsbook world who were there quickly to offer their support. Especially Mickey from Betcris and Chris from DGS. These guys are the salt of the earth. I wish them and all of you the best and it would be great if we could open by June 8th our two year anniversary and possibly for a night on May 14th Mickey's birthday. First round of mudlslide are on us. There are just to many people to mention but I give another special thanks to Satelite Jerry who has a heart of gold....believe it or not. He has guaranteed to have our satelite services up and running and is fronting us new flat screen TVs. Don't believe what you here about the guy. He is a great friend.
Once again thank you all. We are truly blessed here in Costa Rica.
We love you guys.
Thanks,
Steve, Jae, Glenn, Miranda and Delaney.
We will keep you all updated.
