Why is this man smiling? Because in the time it takes you to read this sentence, he's just made $20. And again. And again. A torrential flood of money, pouring straight into the bank account of one Tiger Woods.
A new Forbes report reveals that Woods is on track to become the world's first billionaire athlete by 2010. That, friends, is nothing short of astonishing. We all know about billionaires who've made their money through skyrocketing IPOs or entrepreneurial sellouts -- shoot, I'm one, aren't you? -- but for Woods to make his billion through nothing but paychecks is pretty damn amazing.
[UPDATE: Some reports have Michael Schumacher as the world's first billionaire athlete, as of 2005. No idea why Forbes didn't mention that.]
But a billion is such an abstract number. Let's break that down. Tiger is on pace to make about $100 million this year between endorsements and winnings, even considering the fact that he won't play in another tourney. $100 million a year equals $273,972 a day. $11,415.53 an hour. $190 a minute. He earns three dollars and seventeen cents per second. That means, hypothetically speaking, if Tiger was walking up the fairway in a tournament and saw a $10 bill lying there, he'd make more money by walking right past it.
Does he deserve that money? Hell yes, he does; he makes far more than that for other people and corporations. Is it right that he deserves that money? Well, that's the foundation of a capitalistic society, isn't it? Like it or not. (Yes, teachers and doctors deserve more, but they don't get it.) So, bottom line: If you don't think Tiger deserves to be rich, you're a communist. Plain and simple.
Hey, Tiger? Next time we go out, none of that "I can't find my wallet" nonsense. Not when we know you can buy the restaurant, dude.

he's made over 700 million in endorsements

And what about golf winnings? Perfect example of capitalism - your value is largely how much other people can make off of you.

If you don't think Tiger deserves to be rich, you're a communist. Plain and simple.

I love how you use that word as an insult. If you actually believe it is, look the word up in a dictionary. Also, there is a huge difference between being rich and being a billionaire. Before you go labelling me as a 'filthy commie', I'll tell you that I'm neither a communist or a capitalist but I can look past propoganda to see the virtues of both.

hard to know what his exact golf earnings are . somewhere around 70 mil on the pga tour. overseas is a different story . he gets 2 or 3 million just to show up to some of those events .

the guy could quit playing the pga tour and make 2 to 3 million a week playing exhibitions around the world .

if he really wanted to , he could make 200 + million a year.

$190 a minute...jesus.

Tiger could bet $30k on a baseball game, and even if he loses he still end up having more money than before the game began.

So what is his net worth? Anyone know? He will have "earned" a billion by 2010.

Good for him. We should all set his money, ability, drive, motivation and desire as a bench mark to judge our lives and how we can make ourselves better, in someway, doen'st need to be millions, just quality, as he has shown. No, he is not my hero, idle or anything else of the sort, but he sure is someone to look to for positive vibes.

I saw in an interview that Tiger only lives off his earnings from PGA tournaments. He donates all endorsement money and has various charities.:103631605

no way of knowing for sure , but i highly doubt this .

you dont buy a 20 million dollar boat and a 37 million dollar piece of property in jupiter , florida with just your pga earnings.

their is no way the guy has donated over 700 million , or what is left of 700 million after taxes and agent fee's .

Are you saying Tiger is a liar? Those words came straight from his mouth. And yes, you can build up a lot of money when you get paid a million per tourney. This guy has videos, a book, video games, clothing line, golf course design, his name TM., Enough money to go around other than money from Nike or Gatorade. Just wish he'd throw me a bone.
