That's a valid point. Westwood's short game is another culprit. The thing about Tiger today vs Tiger in 2000 is the flat stick. It seemed like he made everything he looked at back then, now it's surprising to see him make an 8 footer.
Tiger's flat stick let him down in that last year before he got hurt. But he still won 5 tournaments in 2012. So it's not a huge problem that can't be fixed. I think his main problem in 2013 was his injury hampering his swing. It probably left him little time to work on putting when he was constantly working his swing around his injury. One thing for sure, he'll have plenty of time to get his putting straightened out in the next few months since he can't do much of anything else....

That's a good point. Hopefully this back surgery isn't a sign of his breaking down. I always wonder what Goosen could've done had his back not given out.

The competition being tougher is the main roadblock. If Tiger was coming back from this latest injury 15-20 years ago I think Jack's record would definitely be in trouble. Even as it stands against today's group of golfers, Tiger has still come just a whisker away from winning a couple more majors after his broken leg injury..

I don't think he was that close to winning a major the last few majors...

I'd argue he was in position to win either of the last two Open Championships. 73 in the final round in '12 and 74 in the final round in '13 just didn't get it done.

being in position only to blow up on Sunday is alot different then losing a major by a whisker like GS is suggesting

I know you probably disagree with me, but he should have won the Masters. The bad luck bounce off the flag stick into the water was the difference between him winning or losing that tournament imo..

that unlucky shot happened on Friday. If we were talking about a bad break on 15 on Sunday that cost him the tournament I might agree..

It changed the whole momentum Tiger had in that tournament because of the penalty and the controversy that came afterwards. He was going along just fine until then.

This was pretty much "not going to happen" back in 2009 when the thread started. Those who voted yes were just blind Tiger backers.

After his 7 iron encounter it is over for sure. He is building up some credible excused, though!

Does Senior Tour majors count?

Not just no, but HELL NO!! Not to say that the "powers that be" won't try to twist that around.

As a reason to think media might try to fudge on this...... What the crap was the "Tiger Slam"? Very impressive to hold all four trophies at the same time. But..... Had absolutely nothing to do with the real Grand Slam!

OK Go. Understand now. I can't imagine how some folks really still hold on to the hope that Tiger will get to nineteen. No way!

I can't imagine how Rory gets to five since everyone was on his jock last year.....

Come on, man. I know this is hyperbole in response to all the Tiger haters around here, but to use Rory winning 5 to defend Tiger's form is silly. Rory is 25, and has won a major in 2 of the last 3 years. Tiger is 38 and hasn't won a major in 5 full seasons. I know the anti-Tiger stuff is intense around here but Rory has 15-20 years of his prime to snag 3 majors.
