75 year old Gary Player is in better shape then golfers half his age. How many Hall of Famers came out of Tigers great years between 97-08 ?

yea, i'd kill to be in as good of shape as him when i'm 75...that guy is cool as hell.

i see what your saying, but my arguement is just that i think tiger was just that much better.....he was doing what rory did at congressional regularly.....as far as hall of famers, who is there? i can only think of tiger, phil, els off the top of my head.....tiger made phil and especially els careers half of what they could have been

Els pretty much did most of his damage before Tiger. Turn of the century he has been invisible. No argument that Tiger was alot better, just think his competition was weaker

Els came in second to tiger a number of times i believe....els also had some trouble dealing with his son's probs for awhile though that prob played a bigger part than tiger....there just really wasnt anybody to compete with tiger, he was just that much better in a day where golfers were better than they were years before that

It's anybody's guess who the next caddy will be...thinking Noah Begay possibly...

Whoever it is, I hope he selects somebody who can read greens...Tiger's eyes are not what they used to be and he has had a couple surgeries on them...

I think it is a good move to move on to another caddy....

Steve Williams on Tiger Woods: ‘I’ve wasted two years of my life’

Is it possible that Tiger Woods simply has no idea how people outside the ropes of a golf course relate to one another?
On Wednesday, Woods formally announced that he and caddie Steve Williams were parting ways, a decision that he'd apparently broken to Williams several weeks ago. But as Williams has indicated in the last 24 hours, this decision was in no way mutual, and that he cannot believe this is the outcome of his consistent -- some would say misguided -- loyalty.
On his website, Williams released the following statement:
"Following the completion of the AT&T National I am no longer caddying for Tiger after he informed me that he needed to make a change. After 13 years of loyal service needless to say this came as a shock. Given the circumstances of the past 18 months working through Tiger's scandal, a new coach and with it a major swing change and Tiger battling through injuries I am very disappointed to end our very successful partnership at this time. I have had the opportunity to work of late for Australian Adam Scott and will now caddy for him on a permanent basis. Having started my caddying career with Australian great Peter Thompson and working for Greg Norman in the 80's I am excited about the future working for another Australian."
Clearly, Williams believes the loyalty he showed to Woods through a decade-plus of victories, plus both Woods' personal problems and injuries warranted more than a "thanks for your service" pink slip. (He did tell Golf Digest's Tim Rosaforte he respected the fact that Woods handled the dismissal "man to man," but that's where the respect apparently ends.)
Interviewed on Television New Zealand, he went even further: "You could say I've wasted the last two years of my life. I've stuck with Tiger and been incredibly loyal. I'm not disappointed I've been fired -- that's part of the job -- but the timing is extraordinary."
When the Woods scandal, with its lurid tales of trysts around the world, first broke in late 2009, Williams was implicated by association. They're partners on the course! Wouldn't he have known about everything that happened off the course as well? And if he didn't know, why didn't he immediately quit?
"My name should have been cleared immediately," Williams said. "It wasn't and that's what makes it even more disappointing what's transpired [recently]." He indicated that the revelation of Woods' transgressions set off what he called "the most difficult period of my life," and his decision to stick by Woods met with considerable criticism from friends.
Even so, Williams saw something in Woods that kept Williams in the fold. Was it simply money? Certainly Williams earned millions while in Woods' employ. But even if Williams' decision to remain was purely mercenary, remain he did, at a time when Woods had few friends and almost no one willing to stand up for him.
"I, along with a lot of people, lost a lot of respect for Tiger and I pointed out before his return at the Masters at Augusta in 2010 that he had to earn back my respect," Williams said. "Through time I hope he can gain my respect back. He definitely needs to earn my respect again, that's for sure."
We've opined before in this space that perhaps the best thing Woods could do would be to clean house, to start over with an entirely new entourage not beholden to him, and not responsible for enabling him prior to Thanksgiving 2009. Clearly, by keeping much of his prior management team in place, he hasn't done that; by cutting loose the man who was literally his most visible public supporter, he once again gives the appearance of caring for no one but himself.
The loss of Williams could be hugely damaging on the course as well as in the court of public opinion. Williams is 13 years older than Woods, and while he didn't give off a "father figure" vibe, he certainly had it in him to guide Woods in certain directions -- on the course, at least -- while keeping more intrusive elements like the media and the galleries at bay. Whoever takes on the job of caddying Woods, and there are no serious candidates as yet, will have to be part psychologist, part bouncer, an enforcer with Zen calm.
Look, it's Woods' prerogative to fire his caddie at any time; he's done it in the past. This is an employer-employee relationship. (And to be fair, we haven't heard Woods' side of the story.) But there are ways to handle these separations with grace, respect and dignity, ways to keep someone who's been one of your most loyal backers from feeling like all his own pain and stress were meaningless.
Woods has a long list of people who deserved better from him. It's a shame that list continues to grow even now.

Why would any current successful caddy drop their bags for Tiger right now?

Because he is Tiger Woods. I get Tiger hasnt won in awhile but I love how everyone thinks he is done. Tigers last win in a major was the 2008 US open. Since that time he has played in 9 majors. Here are his finishes in those 9. 6th, 6th, missed cut, 2nd, 4th, 4th, 23rd, 28th, 4th.

So in those 9 majors he has 6 top 6 finishes. and he probably still has the best average finish of any golfer over that span. Simply put if he plays his caddy is going to make alot of money. Thats why he wont have a hard time finding another caddy. Steve Williams was averaging almost 1 million a year with Tiger. No other caddy was even close to that.

Good post. It's really not that hard to figure out why somebody would want to caddy for him. If I was carrying for rory, Jason day, fowler, Watney, DJ, etc...(the young guys that have a very small chance to do half of what tiger has done)....if I was one of their caddy's, I wouldn't switch, just cause those guys could have a job for a long time, any of these guys carrying bags for guys that miss more cuts than they finish top 10 would jump at it, its common sense....all depending on when tiger is planning on playing of course

So the speculation begins on who will replace Steve Williams as Tiger Woods’ caddie.

WHAT'S UP WITH TIGER?

Irish bookmaker Paddy Powers has installed Fanny Sunesson as a 6/4 favorite to replace Williams.
Sunesson, who loops for Henrik Stenson, caddied for Nick Faldo when he won four of his six majors and has been a mental coach to Martin Kaymer, as well.
Others in the mix:
• Bryon Bell, Woods’ friend and president of Tiger Woods Design, at 13/8
• Paul Tesori, who has caddied for Vijay Singh and Sean O’Hair and these days loops for Webb Simpson, at 7/4
• John Wood, Hunter Mahan’s caddie, at 5/1
• Tony Navarro, who caddied for Adam Scott until being dismissed earlier this year before landing recently with Angel Cabrera, at 6/1

INSEPARABLE ... NOT

In the wake of the news that Tiger Woods has fired caddie Stevie Williams, Golfweek looks back at their longtime relationship.

• Billy Foster, Lee Westwood’s caddie, at 8/1
• J.P. Fitzzgerald, who carries for Rory McIlroy, at 12/1
• Joe La Cava, who left Fred Couples this year to join Dustin Johnson, at 20/1
• Colin Byrne, recently dismissed by Edorado Molinari, at 33/1.
Powers also is promoting Woods vs. Williams as to who will win next. The bookmaker has Woods an 8/15 favorite to Williams 11/8.

I thought Stenson had that girl on his bag?

Everything I've read sounds like Byron Bell will be next, but who knows. Hell it may be somebody Foley hooks him up with

He hasn't made that much money in the last 2 years on the tour. Isn't that the caddy's biggest concern ? Tiger might not have a hard time finding a caddy, but for that caddy to make what Williams was making is dreaming.

You are correct but most of the reason he hasnt made much money in the last 2 years is because he hasnt played much, not because he has played so poorly. He has only played like 18 tourney's in the last 2 years. He usually plays in about that many in 1 year. And by the way caddies usually get a set weekly amount of say $1000 to $1500 then they get a cut of winnings and a larger cut for top 10's and wins. So youre not going to be starving if your carrying a bag for tiger. I will say you are dead on about not making what williams was making. there is no way any caddy will make what stevie was making from 2000 to 2007. Hell there was one year where steve williams would have placed 75th on the pga money list he made so much carrying tigers bag. He frequently made over 1 million a year not including his endorcement stuff. But ill bet money that whoever carries tigers bag in 2 years from now will be one of the higher paid if not the highest paid caddy on tour.

Williams earned millions while doing work any trained monkey could do; he should kiss Tiger's feet every day for the rest of his life.
