Tico on Gringo Racism

How many Gringos out there are stuck in a position underneath a Tico that obviously has racist issues against Americans even though the owner of said company is American as well and put said A-hole in position? Im so sick of this crap, I am here to do a job, and I do it well. How about some positive vibrations my latin-american friend? Anybody need a good employee who likes to do his job?

1) Racism of ANY kind is nothing but bs, we all feel inclined to make generalizations when we just about had it with anyone we can "label" say nicas,ticos, "Americans", French etc etc, obviously whoever (including me) who every now and then say stuff like that...sound really stupid

2) NO justification ........but the other kind of racism that is common in the industry is the one that goes like this

"I am your boss you sob.......and you do what I said when I said it and don't even get close to my bodyguards or I will send you to pick bananas again"

Yeah Judge, tienes razon. I have seen in some offices where people with similar attitudes pull this same type of powertrip in an industry where it is really not necessary.
Anyone else here actually have fond memories of an office where people enjoyed working, and actually cared about the customers and their jobs? Mine are starting to fade.

I love Costa Rica, it's a beautiful country. People are cool, but there are two situations where a Tico will ALWAYS be a fvcking dick:

1. When driving

2. When invested of power in a manager position.

They tend to believe that being a manager means being a fucktard that screams at people and belittle them. I have had the chance to see all kinds of people as managers and the ones I admire the most are the ones that understand that as a manager your job is to HELP those in your team. Good team spirit increases productivity rates, a s s h o l e managers have little interest in making more money for their companies or creating a professional environment at work.

As a rule of thumb, the more ignorant and unprepared for the position someone is, the more inclined that person will be to cuss' and show a power trip... Surely enough though, a prick in power is a prick on the way out already.

Have beer and drink to your lady... Work is just that... work.

I was going to say the same thing, I haven't seen any Ticos treat any of their subordinate staff well. Not to sound "racist" myself, but I believe it's Latino culture. Americans coming from a good job in the States will find that culture difference quite offensive and intolerable. Best suggestion is to make sure you report to someone with a similar background as yourself.

The same would apply in any other country, work cultures are extremely different. Americans, especially in a competitive profession, have it well.

As a Gringo, I have found that speaking Spanish will make the Ticos more at ease.

I attempt to start off any relationship by showing some respect and finding ways to make everything work out.

My goal is to continue living here.

My past jobs were not the "be all end all" of jobs. I took everyday as it came and ignored stupid power trips. I believe that certain Ticos earned their position and did it well. The employees needed to see someone from their country in a good position. They were usually the go to guys that could speak for the masses. I found that most sportsbook owners are slightly out of touch with the locals. They need a set of eyes and ears out there making sure the job is done.

All it can do is get you in trouble.

I guarantee that if there I did have a job with an owner or manager(regarldless of background) that was around enough to give fvck about his business, I woulld be well respected for my work ethic and maybe even paid a decent rate. unfortunately those jobs are few and far between as noone seems to care anymore. If you know anyone looking for a quality employee let me know, I could use a change of scenery.

Dime, what is your profession? I'm a software engineer, so my direct knowlege of open positions is probably outside your field, but I do know a fair number of sportsbooks.

What I meant by background is having experience in the same work culture/environment/philosophy/incentive structure/etc you have grown accustomed to.

That often varies by industry as well. I made a rule several years ago to only ever work for a company whose core management are also themselves experience software developers -- and then broke that rule a few times always to my regret. After very briefly working for an Argentino coming from Singapore, I revised that rule to also require their background is from U.S. software or consulting companies.

well right now I am working as a clerk but I prefer the term Wagering Technician, although I would say I am better suited for Customer Service or a VIP Hosting Positition but have experience in virtually every position in regard to the Sports Betting Industry. I have more than five years experience and am a down home country boy with good typing and phone skills. Also about to become a local myself this July when I marry my wonderful costarican girlfriend. Im not expecting a reference as you dont know me, but a heads up would be appreciated, I will let my performance speak for it self.
