Here are tonight's selections:
5 Units So Mississippi -17.5 -101
Houston "we have a problem." And that problem is offense....and defense! The Cougs, who lost 41-14 to Memphis last week, now have the Conference Champion Southern Mississippi Eagles to contend with in Hattiesburg. Last year, the Eagles won 31-10. Any relation to last year's Houston offense (34 points and over 200 yards rushing and passing per game) is a mirage. In 2004, the Cougars are averaging just 16 points and 342 total yards. On Saturday, Houston (1-4 SU, ATS) was led by QB Kevin Kolb who completed 18-of-27 passes for 220 yards with a touchdown and WR Vincent Marshall who caught eight passes for 131 yards with a touchdown. Memphis piled up 501 yards of total offense while the Cougars had just 285 yards. While the Tigers were averaging close to seven yards per rushing attempt, Houston checked out with only 1.7 yard per carry! The Eagles, meanwhile, scored a 27-20 win over the South Florida Bulls. QB Dustin Almond threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns and Southern Mississippi's defense held USF to just 205 yards of total offense and only 55 yards on the ground. Houston has a big problem Saturday, as their ground attack will be mired in the mud in Hattiesburg.
