Mohawk: Thursday 7/10 Analysis
By Greg Gangle
DRF HARNESS

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: WILDCAT MAGIC (4th)

Spot Play: DESIGNER GENES (10th)

Race 1

(3) FAITHFUL FRIEND qualified very strong on June 21 with a solid final quarter and draws inside in this field. (1) LADY MY LUCK qualified well in her latest with a strong final quarter and is blessed with the rail to begin her career. Don't be surprised to see her drop multiple seconds off her best time. (4) WISHES FOR YOU was a $7K purchase and so far has looked to be worth every penny.

Race 2

(5) SHES A PANSATION recently entered the Jeff Gillis barn and has posted a trio of qualifiers to prepare for her career debut. (1) YELLOW MUSTANG is fresh off a convincingly open-length qualifier and is blessed with post one start to begin her career. (8) STONEBRIDGE QUEST has shown much improvement in her two qualifying efforts, comes from good connections and was impressive in her recent outing as the track was listed as 'Good' on that occasion with a two-second variant.

Race 3

(5) NORTHERN SECRET is winless from eight starts this season, but has been racing very well as of late. (10) CAVIART GRIFFIN has had my full attention for the past three weeks as I've put him on top. I can't do it for a fourth straight week from another outside post, but I'll include him in the exactor. (2) CUDA SIXTY SIX was a winner in his most recent start for trainer Murray Brethour after receiving a terrific two-hole trip.

Race 4

(3) WILDCAT MAGIC comes out of the Town Pro Series and into a more suitable field for her liking. (4) SAM also drops out of the Town Pro Series after finishing second and fourth in both preliminary legs. (2) EXHILARATED will offer a low price again in this field and has been racing very well in her last three starts.

Race 5

(7) AMAZING CONTROL is a half-sister to OSS graduate Winbak Warrior ($153K) and comes from the Jack Darling stable. This filly by Shadow Play posted a pair of convincing qualifiers. (5) SOUTHWIND LUNA has posted one qualifier, but in a speedy time of 1:58 with a :27 2/5 final quarter to finish second. (3) MS DIAMOND STATE draws inside for her career debut after a pair of qualifying efforts.

Race 6

(2) DOWEYPUFFANDHOW comes from the John Bax barn and has been knocking on the door in each of her last two starts. (1) BRANDON IRON has a history of making breaks, but when he's on his game, he's proven to be very competitive in this class. (7) FORCE FLEX competed in the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots in his latest and now returns to the bottom class where he should find a group more to his liking.

Race 7

(6) DOUBLE JOY competed in the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots in his latest and now returns to the bottom class where he should find this group to his liking. (8) SEAWIND GINGER hasn't been worse than second in each of her last three starts and has terrific gate speed. She's fresh off a win and has been rounding into form compared to her efforts earlier in the season. (9) P L HULA was a convincing winner in her latest from a post eight start at Georgian Downs.

Race 8

(8) SOUTHWIND PARIS commanded $62K as she's the first foal from A And Gs Princess, who banked over $287K while competing on the Grand Circuit. (5) LADY JEN disappointed the public last week as she failed to win as the favorite in her first start of her career. (9) GOLDIES BAD GIRL is a perfect one-for-one to start her career and she did so in convincing fashion at Hiawatha Horse Park in 1:57 4/5 by over five lengths.

Race 9

(2) SHES DIGNIFIED is a homebred daughter of Your Nemesis that posted an impressive score in her lone qualifying effort. (7) SASSAFRAS GIRL was an impressive winner last week in her first start of her career. (8) JINGLEWRITER comes out of the Hudon barn, which is excellent with young horses. This filly by Sportswriter closed well last week in her first career start to finish third at Georgian Downs.

Race 10

(2) DESIGNER GENES finally draws inside and driver Chris Christoforou will likely use that to his advantage. This trotting daughter of Cantab Hall has been a main threat in this class for the past several weeks. (3) HOLY MOLIE MAGGIE is a logical candidate for the exactor and triactor. (4) PROTEGE SEELSTER is a classy veteran that draws well and comes from the Corey Johnson barn. He's hit the board in two of his last three starts and when he didn't, he made a miscue.

Race 11

(3) BUDDY HOPE entered the Victor Puddy barn last week and resulted in a third-place finish for driver Jody Jamieson. The son of Western Ideal received an inside trip and fired home well with a :27 4/5 final quarter. (8) LITTLE QUICK has been knocking on the door in each of his last five starts and once again poses as a threat to his nine rivals. (4) LOST IN PANSLATION has been a main threat in this class for many weeks. He was a winner two back, by a neck, and finished fourth last week by a length.

Yonkers: Thursday 7/10 Analysis
By Brewster Smith
DRF HARNESS

MEET STATS: 194 - 745 / $1,235.00 BEST BETS: 15 - 62 / $59.90

Best Bet: BOOTS PLACE (3rd)

Spot Play: NATURAL HABITAT (1st)

Race 1

(2) NATURAL HABITAT gets the best of the draw. At his best, he can make tonight a winning one. (4) MR SHADOW is an upstate invader that has some speed; threat. (3) GETONTHEWAY will be closing late.

Race 2

(4) BREW MASTER was sharp in his Yonkers debut. Trotter is good enough to make it two straight. (1) E L ROCK is an Ohio invader that retains the rail. Brennan had other options; big threat. (2) FOX VALLEY ILIAD could have a say in the outcome.

Race 3

(3) BOOTS PLACE moves to the three-slot and with a timed drive from Sears, this pacing miss can mow these down for all the glory. (2) SIR SYNC Z TAM comes off a good qualifier upstate; main danger. (4) APACH OF LUCK fits well with this group.

Race 4

(4) NUTMEGS DESIRE has good early zip. Seems fit and ready to take this group to task. (1) EVIL EVA should fare well from the fence. (3) SENORITA SANTANNA raced evenly in her last try.

Race 5

(1) RINGSIDE MUSCLE gets class relief and has the rail slot. Gelding can boss these down the road. (4) TROTTIN TROY has hit the board in his last two trips. (6) JAILHOUSE FUNK closed strongly last out for win honors.

Race 6

(3) MERCURIO N is seeking his first score of the year and this looks like a good spot for him to do just that. (1) DANAS SHARP SMART might contend with these from the rail slot. (2) DANCING IN TERROR put in a mild rally in his last try.

Race 7

(2) CANT STOP ME NOW moves to the two-slot and that might be what she needs to get it done tonight; maybe. (1) TREVORS BEBE closed well last out to grab the show spot in her recent trip to the post. (4) PARK N ORCHARD was quite sharp in her last two at Pocono; watch out.

Race 8

(4) DVCFLYINGFRENCHMAN posted a mild rally for the show spot last time out. Gelding could put his best foot forward against these. (1) KID CRUISER gets serious post relief; main threat. (3) DASH N also gets the luck of the draw; not out of this.

Race 9

(8) MCEVER showed some late pace in her latest and could be ready to get the job done from the 8-hole. (4) TEXAS CAVIAR closed strongly to grab place honors last out; main danger. (3) I KNOW NOTHING was sent down the road for all the glory in her recent outing.

Race 10

(1) BIJOU THEATER is seeking her second score of the year and moving to the one-slot makes her a solid threat in here. (7) QUAIL took the pocket route home for the victory last time around. (4) SMOKE PAN MIRRORS can be right in the swing of things.

Race 11

(4) KEEPERS DESTINY did not fire at The Meadowlands last time out but this looks like a good spot for this pacing mare to get back in the winning grove. (1) I DO IT MYSELF is a very consistent pacing miss that is clearly the one to fear. (2) RESCUE TEAM ships down from upstate and is not out of this with Brennan at the helm.

Race 12

(5) PASSION R VIRGINIE was over her head in her latest. She has every right to get back on the winning track. (2) FLYING MOCHA put in a mild bid in her last trip to the post; threat. (1) MACH THIS WAY gets some post relief; watch out.

KEY STAT: Daugava Riga only registered one shot in the first leg

EXPERT VERDICT: Aberdeen are all but through the first round of Europa League qualifying after thrashing an ill-disciplined Daugava Riga 5-0 at Pittodrie last week. That may lead to a drop in intensity in the second leg, and it is worth backing the strong-arm tactics of the Latvians to help keep this one goalless.

RECOMMENDATION: No goalscorer

Race 5 - Claiming - 8.0f on the Turf. Purse: $9000 Class Rating: 71

FOR FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON THREE RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 119 LBS.; OLDER, 124 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE JUNE 10 ALLOWED 3 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $17,500, IF FOR $15,000, ALLOWED 2 LBS.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 4 ASHLEY B. 7/2

# 3 REDCLAYHILL 9/2

# 6 GUNNITE GRACIE 9/2

My selection in this event is ASHLEY B.. House has this filly moving well and is a respectable selection based on the formidable speed figures put up in route races as of late. With a solid rider who has won at a very strong 16 percent clip over the last 30 days. This has to be one of the top choices. Ran a very solid last race. REDCLAYHILL - Very solid returns have been scored by players using this rider and trainer twosome recently. Will most likely come out strong - I have liked the way this filly has moved quickly to the lead recently. GUNNITE GRACIE - The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Foster running at this distance are the best in this group. Foster has her trained soundly to break promptly out of the starting gate.

Belterra Park - Race #5 - Post: 3:26pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $8,000 Class Rating: 87

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#2 YOU IS WHAT YOU IS (ML=4/1)

YOU IS WHAT YOU IS - This gelding is a gem of consistency, almost always in the money. That 82 fig this gelding registered in his last event tells me he's a major player this time. 71-79-82 are last three Equibase speed figures. Improving each time out is something he should do again today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1A OVERTHEHUMP (ML=9/5), #1 HARD WAY SIX (ML=9/5), #5 AKAPESCHE (ML=7/2),

OVERTHEHUMP - Can't really bet on this kind of oft beaten public's choice. June 14th is the last time we've seen this gelding around. Have to be a little bit leery. HARD WAY SIX - Hasn't been on the Belterra Park oval in the last three weeks. Cause for some concern. This gelding notched a speed fig in his last race which probably isn't good enough in today's race. Ran a great speed rating last time around the track, but the attempt will probably take too much out of him. AKAPESCHE - When checking today's Equibase class figure, he will have to earn a better speed fig than last out to compete in this dirt sprint.

Race 8 - Claiming - 5.5f on the Dirt. Purse: $15000 Class Rating: 89

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 119 LBS.; OLDER, 124 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $8,000.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 10 SENATOR BOB 2/1

# 7 ELECTROLYTE 20/1

# 6 TRUELEE SCRAPPIN 5/1

I think SENATOR BOB is a competitive choice. His 86 average has this gelding with among the top Equibase Speed Figures for this event. Keep this gelding in your exotics as Pereira has given backers some double digit gains. Sierra has him trained well to break quickly out of the gate. ELECTROLYTE - Is a strong contender based on figures posted as of late under today's conditions. With better than average trips to the winner's circle, Trujillo will almost certainly have this colt in excellent position to win the race. TRUELEE SCRAPPIN - Whitehouse has this gelding racing well and is a decent pick based on the very good speed figures garnered in sprint races lately. This racer could surprise this bunch at a nice price.

#1 SWEET DEPUTY RUTH (ML=7/2)

SWEET DEPUTY RUTH - I like to wager on this angle, a pony coming back off a sharp effort within the last 30 days. This horse is not the morning line favorite, yet she finished ahead of today's chalk in their last race together. That 38 fig this filly recorded in her last event tells me she's a chief player today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 RAINA RUBINA (ML=5/2), #2 TAPS LADY (ML=3/1), #6 CROWN HER FIRST (ML=9/2),

RAINA RUBINA - I don't normally play a favorite that hasn't been to the track in the last 3 weeks. Really don't think the most recent rating was attained legitimately. The wet conditions may have lead to such a high rating. TAPS LADY - Disappointing speed rating in the last race at Charles Town at 4 1/2 furlongs. Don't believe this mount will improve too much today. CROWN HER FIRST - Can't invest in this runner in today's sprint of 4 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't even finished in the money in a short distance event lately.

Play #1 SWEET DEPUTY RUTH to win if you can get odds of 1/1 or more

# 5 IN REGAL ATTIRE 3/1

# 2 ZACK LEE 9/5

# 7 ON ALERT 3/1

The pick in this race is IN REGAL ATTIRE. With a excellent driver, who has won at a really strong 20 percent rate the last 30 days, this has to be one of the top choices. ZACK LEE - The 2 hole sports a much higher than average win percent at Monticello Raceway. Recorded a 74 speed rating last out. A duplicate outing here should get the top prize in this race. ON ALERT - Feel the need for speed, this interesting entrant has been turning in some top notch speed figs averaging around 78. With a 81 avg class ranking, this race horse has one of the strongest class edges in the field of starters.

# 4 ASHTORETH HANOVER 6/1

# 6 SPECIAL LADY D 12/1

# 1 ITS ALL TERROR 4/1

ASHTORETH HANOVER is tough to overlook as our best wagering option in this race. Quite possibly the class of the group with an average rating of 82. A nice choice. SPECIAL LADY D - Should compete competently in this race as her style of running fits well in this bunch. Horoscope said take a chance today, this nice horse is as good as any to take a shot with. ITS ALL TERROR - More wins than normal have been achieved by contenders lining up behind the 1 position at Northfield Park. Cannot put a finger on it, but think about this mare for a wager.

Thursday Bonus Play 7:05 PM MLB

(963) NEW YORK YANKEES at (964) CLEVELAND INDIANS

Take: (964) CLEVELAND INDIANS -125

Sometimes you just get into a zone with a particular team, and that’s the best way to describe the way it’s going for me with the Indians. Whether on them or against them, I’m finding the right spots with this squad. Hopefully, that includes tonight.

David Phelps and TJ House will get the mound assignments here. Neither hurler is what I’d call especially reliable, although Phelps clearly has more upside on an individual game basis. But I prefer the situation for the home team.

From a statistical standpoint, this is pretty even. The Indians have better overall numbers against righties than the Yankees do against lefties, although the problems in this regard for the Yanks have mostly been at home. Likewise, I think the argument can be made that the bullpens are close as well.

But situations and schedule dynamics are key in breaking down games in any sport and I think they definitely come into play tonight. Make no mistake, I believe the fact these teams played 14 on Wednesday is of significance here. The elderly Yankees are more likely to feel the effects tonight, and they also have a thinner bullpen, so if it’s close down the stretch, I have to give an edge to the Tribe.

This opinion really comes down to those last points, more than anything else. The number on the game is actually a little higher than I anticipated, as I envisioned something in the -110 neighborhood. Perhaps the guys who set the odds are seeing this the same way I am and tacking on some loose change to compensate for the situation that could be in play. I’m siding with what I believe will be the fresher team, eager to atone for letting one get away on Tuesday night, and I’ll opt for the Indians this evening.
