Spot Play: HISTORIAN (4th)

Race 1

(4) DEWEYLOVEUMNOW draws well, comes out of the McNair barn and is fresh off a win. (2) SUPERFLEX qualified very strong for Hudon and if he minds his manners, he looks like a top contender. (9) MASSIVE POCKETS had a credible 2013 campaign, qualified well and gets Ritchie in the bike.

Race 2

(4) ARAMBLIN HANOVER is lightly-raced in his career and posted a strong effort last week to finish second. He draws better and is likely the favourite. (8) VEGAS RICH finished second last week in this class and has a terrific final quarter in him. (5) PLANS OVER moves into the Puddy barn, which will drop his price. He has a patented late kick and gets Jamieson.

Race 3

(3) K D BELLA finished second in the Celias Counsel final and drops into a maiden. (5) MASSSIVE TALENT comes from the Norman barn, has hit the board in each of his last two and will offer a low price in this contest. (8) MISS EVERYTHING made a miscue last week and will look to rebound. She has the talent and is a good option.

Race 4

(9) HISTORIAN comes out of the Tackoor barn, won at this level two back and has excellent gate speed. (10) CASIMIR LOW GEAR will have to overcome the outside, but he won last week at this level and has proven to be very competitive at this level. (2) BUGGER MAX draws inside and just missed last week in this class.

Race 5

(5) SEE THE WIND earned $70K last season as a rookie, qualified well and appears ready at first asking. (6) MISS LIV qualified well in a speedy time and moves into the Baillargeon barn. (3) LOVE DETECTIVE draws inside and comes out of Takter's barn. She may offer a price and qualified very well at The Meadowlands.

Race 6

(3) ROYAL ASHTON suffered a rough trip last week, but in prior starts has proven to be a top threat at this maiden class. (5) NORTHERN JUNO qualified strong in Florida, has the speed and shows versatility. (9) PAIN IN THE GLASS comes out of the Brethour barn posted two qualifiers and displayed the speed needed for this bottom class.

Race 7

(2) EINSTEINS BEST moves into the Gillis barn following a private purchase and remains at the same class he won at last start. (6) STEADY WARRIOR qualified exceptionally by open lengths and certainly looks ready for his season debut. (7) CLUSTER HANOVER comes out of the Darling barn, has gate-speed and gets Jamieson in the bike.

Race 8

(8) SHELLYSSILVERMOON sat in the pocket in her qualifier en route to a 1:55 1/5 effort. This field isn't overly deep and that effort could be quick enough. (5) EMMA SEMALU will make his season debut after a solid qualifying effort. She has the speed and draws well. (10) POPPIES PRIDE has finished third in each of her two starts this season. She's a logical option in here.

Race 9

(2) BROOKDALE SHADOW draws well, comes out of Moore's barn and likely will be the favourite in here. (6) DANA DEAREST lit up the tote board last week with a winning effort. She moves up in class and shouldn't be overlooked. (5) GO FOR SAND has hit the board in three of her last four, draws well and closed very well last week.

Race 10

(9) TWIN B SPY comes out of the Coleman barn, raced in the Gold series last year and appears ready for his first start of the season. (2) HOPE FOR BADLANDS is a perfect two-for-two to start his career and remains at the same level. (3) ALLSTAR SEELSTER hasn't missed the board in two starts this season, comes from the Darling barn and will offer a low price.

(5) BAY FISHEN DOC is zero for 12 this year but the good news is he's clearly knocking at the door; expecting improvement. (1) BET THE TOWN moves back to Yonkers and should fare much better from the fence. (4) SUCROSE HANOVER fits well with these; not out of this.

Race 2

(1) JS MISS LINDA Trotting miss had a tough break in her recent try. If she stays on gait, at best this mare gets the job done tonight. (4) BIG PAYOUT is much better than his last flop. (7) NEWPORT VOLO beat lesser company in his last try.

Race 3

(5) LITTLE MERMAID N Late rally from post seven for show honors in her recent outing. 12-year-old mare can take these to task for her second score of the year. (2) SPRINGHOUSE STAR has tactical speed as she showed in her latest; threat. (3) I DO IT MYSELF has hit the board in her last three tries; watch out.

Race 4

(5) JUST LIKE LLOYD Gelding put in a sharp effort last out. Ready to roll over these. (4) ILL BE THERE should fare quite well from the 4-hole. (7) IMA QUE T has wheeled off two straight victories.

Race 5

(2) ROCKETPEDIA his last two indicates this trotter can put it all together against this group. (3) ROCK OF CASHEL and (5) THE TRIPLE LINDY will both be closing in the late stages.

Race 6

(1) HAYWORTH BLUE CHIP Pacing mare has fine speed and retains the one slot; all systems go to take this. (3) GLAM CAM gets serious post relief; main danger. (2) BABES BISTRO rallied strongly for the show spot recently.

Race 7

(2) BLUE STRIKE gets the best of the draw and Brennan stays; the pick. (4) COSMICPEDIA got the job done last out via the pocket route. (1) NATURAL HABITAT was sent down the road for all the glory last time around.

Race 8

(3) BAD FEELING gets class relief and with her speed, this gal can boss these at her best. (6) NUTMEGS DESIRE She put in two game efforts and should be put in the mix. (1) QUICKSILVERCANDY A moves to the fence where she could contend in here.

Race 9

(1) BO TOX HANOVER just missed the score from the 8-hole last week. Pacing mare can take this with a perfect trip from the rail. (5) ITS A MIRACLE is better than her last try. (4) OCEANS MOTION was third best recently; not out of this.

Race 10

(2) ROCKAVELLIAN is a hot commodity at the claim box. Gelding has scored in his last three starts and the four-peat is clearly not out of the question. (3) GRAND MASTER got the job done in his last two; threat in here. (4) KEYSTONE RAPTOR closed strongly for win honors in his latest; watch out.

Race 11

(3) LITTLE BITTY LIES moves down the scale and with her speed, she should make tonight a winning one. (7) SWISHNFLICK raced evenly in her last trip to the post. (5) NOBLE WARRAWEE completes the trifecta.

Race 12

This looks like a perfect spot for (1) SIR JILLIAN Z TAM to get back into the winner's circle. (2) CANT STOP ME NOW drops a notch in class which puts this gal in the mix. (4) ROBIN CRUISER flashed good early zip last time around.

RUFF CAUSE - The last time I saw this horse was at Louisiana Downs in a race with a class rating of 72. Dropping considerably in Equibase class figure in today's event puts her in a solid position in this event. This thoroughbred could be tough in this race, especially since Simington rode last race out and now should be plenty familiar with this one. In this race here, this thoroughbred has clearly shown signs that she likes the grass. Her speed figures are the highest in the field for this dist/surf. I like the hard fact that this filly's last speed fig, 57, is tops in this field.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 ONE MAGIC SCENE (ML=2/1), #5 ANAYONA (ML=7/2), #4 MAVS INDY (ML=7/2),

ONE MAGIC SCENE - Last performed on May 3rd at Louisiana Downs, finishing sixth. Unlikely to move up off of that outing today. Should have at least hit the board in the last two months in a short distance clash to be worth it at modest odds in a sprint. ANAYONA - Didn't hit the board on May 2nd after the extended time off. Be doubtful of this horse this time around. MAVS INDY - This filly hasn't had any recent accomplishments in short distance events. Tough to wager on her in this contest. I'd like to see more conducive recent showings with oddsmaker's morning line of 7/2.
