KEY STAT: Besiktas have not kept a home clean sheet in their last seven matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Mario Balotelli’s late penalty has put Liverpool in the box seat of this Europa League tie and the fact they kept a clean sheet in the first leg could be decisive. Besiktas will have to come forward seeing as they are 1-0 down and Liverpool’s pace on the break can win them the game in Istanbul.

RECOMMENDATION: Liverpool

KEY STAT: Both teams have scored in 13 of Tottenham’s last 16 matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Mauricio Pochettino has a delicate balancing act to perform with Tottenham in the League Cup final at Wembley, three days after this trip to Florence. However, Spurs were the better side in the first leg and even if changes are made they can get on the scoresheet but Tottenham rarely defend well enough to keep clean sheets.

RECOMMENDATION: Both teams to score

KEY STAT: Celtic have conceded ten goals in their last three European ties

EXPERT VERDICT: The first leg turned into a memorable night at Parkhead as these two famous names in European football played out a fabulous 3-3 draw, but home advantage should mean the return is far easier for Inter. Celtic’s defence has been vulnerable in the Europa League and the Italians can win comfortably.

RECOMMENDATION: Inter-Inter double result

KEY STAT: Both teams have scored in eight of Torino’s last nine matches

EXPERT VERDICT: These two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in Turin and the Italians shouldn’t be written off. Unbeaten in their last seven away games and with just one defeat in their last 14 stretching back to the end of November, Torino look a value bet to do enough in Bilbao to reach the last 16.

RECOMMENDATION: Torino

KEY STAT: Young Boys’s last three games have produced 17 goals

EXPERT VERDICT: Everton’s brilliant 4-1 win in last week’s first leg was out of keeping with the majority of their performances this season and Roberto Martinez’s side can’t be trusted to put in the same kind of performance. The tie is effectively over, but Young Boys are better than the first-leg score suggests and look overpriced to win at Goodison.

RECOMMENDATION: Young Boys

KEY STAT: Roma are without a win in their last six European matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Having choked in the Champions League, there’s a decent chance Roma will also bottle it in the Europa League. The 1-1 draw in the first leg was Roma’s ninth 90-minute stalemate in their last 12 and they’ve won only one of their last ten. The injury list is huge, Roma meet rivals Juve on Monday and Feyenoord have a golden opportunity.

RECOMMENDATION: Feyenoord

# 7 JAY Z TAM 7/2

# 2 ISIE IVY 6/1

# 6 WHO CALLED KELLIE 3/1

JAY Z TAM is the most competitive play in this contest. Could provide us a win based on nice recent TrackMaster Speed Ratings - earning an avg of 67. Very likely the class of the pack with an average rating of 67. A nice selection. With a very good 65 speed figure last time out, will most definitely be a factor in this contest. ISIE IVY - Gelding and trainer go together like Sonny and Cher. They finish in the money 43 percent of their races. Overall statistics look very nice. Can't throw him out of the picture. WHO CALLED KELLIE - Wilfong is racking up the wins in recent times. Outstanding win percent makes this fine animal our pick. Had one of the most competitive TrackMaster Speed Ratings of the field of horses in his last race. A good idea to use in your bets.

# 5 LENNON BLUE CHIP 5/1

# 6 AUSSIE REACTOR A 9/2

# 4 THESEYESRCRYING 7/1

If you want a respectable play today, feast your eyes on LENNON BLUE CHIP. The consortium noted a substantial affair out of this fine animal last time. Hoping for a duplicate of that to end up in the winner's circle. AUSSIE REACTOR A - This contender has shown us some prior ability, just look at the 92 average class rating. Should play well for this one. Worth considering in this contest if only for the really strong TrackMaster speed fig achieved in the most recent affair. THESEYESRCRYING - Hard to put finger on it, but get behind him in this race.

The Walker Group Picks

# 7 VOLATILE (SWE) 5/1

# 8 TOSCANELLI (IRE) 12/1

# 9 GOOD CONTACT 6/1

My pick for this event is VOLATILE (SWE). Ran a strong last race. Is worth looking at and may be a bet - strong speed figures (94 average) at today's distance and surface lately. GOOD CONTACT - His 93 average has this colt with among the most competitive Equibase Speed Figures for this event. Ought to be carefully examined - I like the numbers from the last competition.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 2 COZZY STREET 2/1

# 7 JAZZ IN THE CITY 8/1

# 3 MY SISTER NELL 7/2

COZZY STREET looks decent to best this field. Is a very solid contender based on numbers posted recently under today's conditions. Posted a reliable speed fig in the last race. Can run another good one in this contest. Have to examine solely on class, with some of the best class numbers of this group of horses. JAZZ IN THE CITY - Will probably come out strong - I have liked the way this filly has moved swiftly to the lead recently. Is worth considering and may be a bet - strong Equibase Speed Figures (63 average) at today's distance and surface as of late. MY SISTER NELL - Has solid speed figures and has to be considered for a bet in this contest. Ran a solid last race.

Charles Town - Race #4 - Post: 8:30pm - Maiden Special - 6.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $25,000 Class Rating: 58

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#7 RAMBAM ROCKER (ML=8/5)

RAMBAM ROCKER - I'll forgive that last race on January 3rd when he flopped as the favorite. That race was pretty good for a Maiden Special race and this colt's speed fig was solid. Ran a nice speed figure of 77 on December 4th. Followed it up with another speed fig of 59. Either effort is good enough to win this affair.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 CHARITABLE ANNUITY (ML=7/2), #1A WINDSOR'S SONG (ML=7/2), #4 HE'SACHARITABLEMAN (ML=6/1),

CHARITABLE ANNUITY - This vulnerable equine didn't do much last out finishing eighth. Can't expect improvement today. 7/2 is not worth the risk for any animal in a sprint of 6 1/2 furlongs that hasn't hit the board in a sprint event of late. The speed fig last time out doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class figure of today's race. Mark this horse as a likely underlay. WINDSOR'S SONG - Didn't meet expectations as the public's choice twice. HE'SACHARITABLEMAN - This gelding hasn't had any positive outcomes in sprint contests in the last two months. Improbable that the speed figure he recorded on Jan 24th will hold up in this affair.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - RAMBAM ROCKER - This colt has the top speed figure last race with a very good 59. He is the top gamble here.

#4 MAIDENS JUSTICE (ML=8/1)
#1 MAJOR TRUTH (ML=5/2)
#3 FREE TIME (ML=6/1)

MAIDENS JUSTICE - He'll be laying in perfect striking position, right behind the pace. Personally, I wouldn't worry about where he finished in his last race (fifth). Should improve in this field, with some respectable odds. MAJOR TRUTH - Nice win pct this jockey and trainer twosome have been putting together. This jockey fits well with this animal. The gelding and Hernandez together win at a rate of 50 percent. This horse is at the top in earnings per start (EPS). He looks good in today's affair. FREE TIME - Really figure this race horse is going to be on the money at the finish.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 HAVOC (ML=2/1), #6 JAKOB'S MAGIC (ML=3/1), #2 BOMB SITE (ML=6/1),

HAVOC - The Brain tells me to keep away from horses in sprint contests that haven't finished in the money in sprint affairs lately. JAKOB'S MAGIC - Should have at least finished in the money in the last sixty days in a short distance event to be worth it at minimal odds in a sprint. Finished second in his most recent effort with a disappointing speed rating. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this bunch. BOMB SITE - Would have to get better off that fifth place finish last out to make an impact here.

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

EARLY $1 PICK 4 TICKET:

1,2,5/3,8/2,8,9/2,10 = $36

MEET STATS: 74 - 220 / $406.40 BEST BETS: 10 - 21 / $43.10

SPOT PLAYS: 5 - 20 / $54.10

Best Bet: ACCENTURE HANOVER (2nd)

Spot Play: WOGGY ROCKS (4th)

Race 1

With the Thursday night cards cancelled twice in a row due to weather, several in here haven’t raced in three weeks, so we’ll give the edge to (2) MYSTIQUE BEACHBUM, who has been racing well at London and comes in here for high % connections. (5) ONE BADLAND NIGHT was driven hard to make the front last time and barely held her foes at bay. The time off may actually help her after that hard race. (3) BELLA MASTER also has a conditioning edge and drops into a claimer. She could upset.

Race 2

(5) ACCENTURE HANOVER is the most expensive yearling out of a decent dam. He brought $80K at Harrisburg and looks ready to roll first out here. (4) MURS SON left hard for position, stayed in, then rallied well up the dead rail on a snow-covered surface. He is good now and is the one to take down. (2) WHY ARGUE could get a decent piece of this if he can recapture his form from early January.

Race 3

This race is a bit of a head scratcher, but if (6) ULTIMATE RED has ironed out the issues that have caused his gait problems, he should be tough in here. (1) JL TIMES R GOOD got stung first-over first off the claim but hung in there decently considering. (4) UTOPIA is another that has had some gait issues, but the trainer got a good line on him in the recent qualifier and maybe has some things straightened out.

Race 4

(1) WOGGY ROCKS was primed by Moiseyev to blast off the gate from the 10-hole last week but too many to his left had the same plan and he was forced to take a seat in 4th, which isn’t his trip. Pocket-rocket upset special tonight. (2) CAPELO is obviously the one to beat in his current razor-sharp form. (5) DECISIVE DESTINY drops to face much easier and could just mow them all down late.

Race 5

(3) MAPLELEA dominated this group last time and has by far the best late speed of these. She’ll be very tough to beat. (1) NIPPY W HANOVER is likely to revert back to a front end style here and is the main danger to the choice. (8) WAKE N BAKE has deceptively good form and would be a threat to win it all if she were closer turning home.

Race 6

(2) JOSEPH GERARD was sent on a big speed mission last Friday and stopped in the last 1/8th. He drops into a claimer here and can go much better if given an easier trip early by Macdonnell; top call. (8) BIG PACKAGE returned to his best form last week and is obviously much better when placed near the front early. Waples will be sending him. (9) TYMAL COLOSSUS has been very sharp for weeks, but the 9-hole may be his undoing here unless he can get a seat early and grab some cover.

Race 7

(2) PINOT GRIGIO showed rapid acceleration and some talent winning her debut. These don’t look much tougher. (10) TWIN B SWEETHEART has shown good closing power in both qualifiers and is a threat to take this at a price. (7) WARAWEE QUALLY hasn’t been able to finish off her opponents but gets a barn change here which could put her over the top.

Race 8

(3) IN THE SHADOWS is out of a dam that won 5 of her first 7 starts in Quebec Sires Stakes and took a mark of 1:52 3/5 as a 3YO. This is her first foal and she looks ready to go; top call. (9) YOUR MY SECRET got very good in a hurry at Miami Valley but has now missed more than a month’s racing; mixed signals here. (6) MACH OF THE TOWN showed a bit of late speed for Henry last time. She could be a lot closer with a better start.

Race 9

(3) TOMEI SEELSTER had shown good improvement at Woodbine before shipping west to easily beat a group of overmatched foes in London. Trainer Stewart spots her well here back in a claimer for her return to the big oval and she has a big shot. (4) GOOD LUCK KATHY had a couple of eventful trips racing out of town but returns in a class where she fits and figures highly. (1) PLAY GROUND will be coming late, but is a victim to pace and flow with her current racing style.

Race 10

(5) GREYSTONE MOE really turned it around last time ripping off the fastest mile of the night on February 9th to win comfortably. The runner-up came back to win easily from the 10-hole off the claim. Let’s give Moe top billing here even with the class rise. (9) SEA STAR fits this class like a glove and will be prominent throughout. (2) ELECTRIFY will be coming last as always, but needs things to break perfectly for him to win; a minor award is likely. (10) PRESCOTTS HOPE has been very consistent and likely shares here even from the 10-hole. (8) WHOSURPAPA won two straight out of town employing different styles and merits an attempt over the big oval.

MEET STATS: 109 - 435 / $614.10 BEST BETS: 13 - 36 / $48.60

Best Bet: AUTOMATIC SLIMS (7th)

Spot Play: TRIPLE MAJOR (2nd)

Race 1

(8) DONNIE DARKO was done in by a tough trip but still hung in nicely most recently. This field is hardly full of confirmed winners and he deserves a second chance. (2) VEGLIATINO can't be faulted for her most recent stretch failure because of a bit of a wind-aided bias against leaders. She doesn't seems to be able to get over the top lately but still figures closely. (3) ULSTER flew past the field a week ago as off-the-pace was a good trip.

Race 2

(9) TRIPLE MAJOR bested a similar group last week and hails from a barn that has won twice as many races at this meet than the rest of the trainers combined. (6) PENN TURBO TED seems to have no excuse in this spot and should get the front without too much trouble. (5) BESTNOTLIE HANOVER takes a step down the claiming ladder and does have some early speed; worth using.

Race 3

(1) TAXED TO THE MAX has a couple of starts under his belt since a near six month layoff and should be primed for a top effort. It remains to be seen whether that performance will be enough, but none of these jump off the page. (2) STEEL CURTIN showed last year that he is fast enough to beat this group. If he minds his manners, Remmen trainee has a clear chance. (9) PASSING JETTA raced well in this class three starts back. (8) NEVER EVER CLEVER switches to Gingras and could easily bring a big mile.

Race 4

(1) BWT TAJ broke upon arrival but certainly looks to be in a perfect spot this week with early zip from the inside; adds Gingras. (6) LUKAS HALL seems to be moving in the right direction now that hobbles have been added. (5) VACATION DAY moves into a new barn, one that does well with trotters and has been having a good meet.

Race 5

(6) WESTERN TSUNAMI has 63 career wins and his form is certainly not in question right now. His winning nature gets him the call against a mostly camera shy group. (2) ROCKAHOLIC gets post and class relief plus Gingras in the bike. (4) GRATIAS DEO is always a threat to win if the race falls into his hands.

Race 6

(3) BLACK MAGIC EYES rallied reasonably well in the preliminary leg of this mini-series and has performed consistently at this level. With any clean trip she has a big shot at winning. (4) MISSSOMEBEACH BLUE was out-kicked by the top choice a week ago but still seems sharp enough to score with a trip. (2) BRING THEM HOME has serious early speed and could easily go down the road or roar out of the pocket. (7) BLUSH HANOVER is another in a wide open field that is simply a smooth trip from being in the photo.

Race 7

(3) AUTOMATIC SLIMS chased somewhat slow fractions last week and was a willing second in the co-fastest mile of the night. He should be ready to bust out with a win. (5) THANKS FOR STOPPIN has been freshened up and tackles a soft group. (4) PHENOMENON could revert to more aggressive tactics from the inside post.

Race 8

(4) PINE CREDIT chased a much the best winner in his first start off the bench and was a good second. Classy 5-year-old can move forward off that effort. (5) LOOKING HANOVER hooks back up with owner Gingras and is eligible to show more. (3) MAGNUM KOSMOS is another moving into the Simons barn. Gelding is fresh off a win but it remains to be seen how he'll handle the climate change from Florida to New Jersey.

Race 9

(10) KEEPING OPTIMISTIC got a nice tightener on Monday at Freehold and finds a weak field. If he minds his manners, he looks best. (3) MCNICKELS MCDIMES ships in very sharp. Can he perform on the big track? (1) IDEAL BID has some early speed and enters a live barn. (5) LLC DELIGHT is a consistent exotics threat.

DRF HARNESS

MEET STATS: 25 - 156 / $257.90 BEST BETS: 2 - 13 / $10.00

Best Bet: CASE SOLVED (3rd)

Spot Play: BAGS OF MONEY (9th)

Race 1

(2) SHELIKESITHERWAY could get involved from the 2-hole and has every right to move forward. (5) DENYITTOTHEEND is a sharp pacing mare that will be a serious threat in here. (1) EVERYMILEAMEMORY could be right in the mix from the fence.

Race 2

(4) IDEAL A LITTLE rallied strongly for show honors last time out. Pacing miss can put it all together with a fine-timed drive from Dube. (3) MISS MACHQUEEN gets post relief and that could help her cause. (5) ZINDERELLA could land a share of the purse.

Race 3

(1) CASE SOLVED is a speedy mare that moves to the fence and should boss these down the road. (3) ELEGANT DESIRE & (2) ARTSY PRINCESS could contend in here so watch out.

Race 4

(2) FLYING MOCHA rallied strong to nailed down the place spot last out. Pacing mare could get back to her winning ways. (6) LITTLE MISS HENRY was sharp in victory at Freehold recently; main danger. (7) BITTERSWEET DREAMS has wheeled off three straight victories; not out of this.

Race 5

(4) QUICKSILVERCANDY A has put in two nice races and has the tactical speed to rate and score over this group. (5) SPRINGHOUSE STAR could be right square in the mix. (3) ALHAMBRA moves down a notch in class and the 3-hole can help her cause.

Race 6

(3) IDEAL CARVER closed strongly for the placing last time around. With a return to his 2-5 trip, it could be game over for the rest of these. (2) WHOLLY LOUY & (1) IM BLUE TOO get post relief; beware.

Race 7

(3) SAMS ESCAPE just got up for win honors in his most recent trip. Pacer is very capable of taking another. (2) DUKE DID IT is knocking at the door; threat. (1) JDS CALEB MAN was sent down the road last out for all the glory.

Race 8

(4) TOP GEAR fits well in here and the good news is Brennan is keeping the faith; all systems go. (7) CLEM has good speed and could contend with this group. (6) VENGANCE could make some serious noise with these.

Race 9

(1) BAGS OF MONEY has put in three show finishes in a row and that might be an indication this gelding is ready to put his best foot forward. (2) JUST THAT is better than his last try. (6) AUSSIE REACTOR A has fine speed and is clearly not out of this.

Race 10

Will try (8) MACHO CHICK to put in another magic score from the 8-hole. (5) CANACO STAR is a sharp mare that figures to be the one to deny. (1) RD IOU is knocking at the door; watch out from the fence.

Race 11

(4) COLLAGE posted an even finish in her last try. Pacing miss is capable of getting the job done with a golden trip. (1) GROUNDED put in mild rally to grab the place spot last time out; main danger. (8) LEXUS ARTIST could get involved from the 8-hole.

Race 12

(8) FREETIME has put two sharp efforts and this 5-year-old mare could be a threat from the outside slot. (3) JET WASH has tactical speed and could be right in the mix. (2) HOOSIER CHATTER can be a contender based on her last two tries.

NHL Grand Salami - February

The Grand Salami in pro hockey is decided by adding up all the goals scored in every game scheduled for that particular day. You can wager on 'over' or 'under' the Grand Salami total. The total is set by adding up all listed 'over/under' odds for each game on that particular day.

Note: The Grand Salami will have no action if any game is suspended or cancelled before the regulation time of three twenty minute periods. Also, regardless of the number of goals scored during the shoot out portion of the overtime, the final scored recorded for the game will give the winning team on more goal than its opponent based on the score at the end of regulation time.

*The majority of sportsbooks do not put out a total on the Grand Salami when there is only one game on the card. For tracking purposes, we will continue to show the 'over/under' for goals and combined goals scored on days with just one game.

Sabres awful offense a under bettors dream
Justin Hartling

In the Buffalo Sabres last 10 games they have an over/under record of 1-9 thanks to their poor offense. The Sabres are averaging a mere 1.7 goals in those 10 games and have only scored multiple goal game four times.

Buffalo will welcome the Vancouver Canucks Thursday.
