KEY STAT: Scotland have not trailed at the break in their last three matches at Wembley

EXPERT VERDICT: England have failed to convince in their three World Cup qualifiers and are likely to make hard work of beating Scotland at Wembley. Scotland will probably get 11 men behind the ball on a regular basis and England may take a while to find a way through but eventually the extra class in the final third should tell.

RECOMMENDATION: Draw-England double result

KEY STAT: All four previous matches between these countries have produced under 2.5 goals

EXPERT VERDICT: Punters know all about the rise of Northern Ireland having witnessed their march to the knockout stage of Euro 2016, and now it looks like another minnow, Azerbaijan, are coming to the party. Robert Prosinecki’s men have picked up seven points from three qualifiers courtesy of 1-0 wins against San Marino and Norway and an impressive 0-0 draw in Czech Republic and they can hold the favourites.

RECOMMENDATION: Draw

KEY STAT: Austria are unbeaten in ten home competitive matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Ireland have made a decent start to their World Cup qualifying campaign but their chances of progressing could take a hit when they face an Austrian side with a point to prove. If Austria can recapture their Euro 2016 qualifying form then they have an excellent chance of claiming all three points.

KEY STAT: Serbia are unbeaten in their last seven matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Wales had a wonderful run through to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 but qualifying for the World Cup looks a tough ask in such a tight group. Chris Coleman welcomes back some key men who were missing from the draw against Georgia but Serbia have started well and can frustrate Wales in Cardiff.

KEY STAT: Andre Silva has scored four in four for Portugal

EXPERT VERDICT: European champions Portugal are a very warm order to beat Latvia and they should do so with the minimum of fuss. Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to cause the most problems for the Latvians but Porto’s Andre Silva has been firing in the goals for his club and could also play a significant part.

RECOMMENDATION: A Silva first goalscorer

10 Players to Watch: OHL Classic at Mayakoba
By Tom LaMarre, The Sports Xchange

1. Russell Knox, Scotland -- The Scot, who has won twice on the PGA Tour in just over a year, had a chance to make it three titles when he was tied for second heading to the final round of his title defense the WGC-HSBC Champions two weeks ago. Then he closed with a 74 and slid to a tie for ninth, his second straight top-10 result to start the new season after he tied for 10th in the CIMB Classic -- when he also was in the hunt until another closing 74. Knox has finished in the top 25 in seven of his last eight events on the circuit, including his victory in the Travelers Championship in August. He is playing in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba for the fifth time, and after failing to crack the top 25 in his first three appearances, he finished 66-66-65 last year before losing to Graeme McDowell on the first hole of a playoff.

2. Emiliano Grillo, Argentina -- The 2016 Rookie of the Year on the PGA Tour, who captured the Frys.com Open in his first event as an official member of the circuit a year ago, has gotten off to another solid start to the new season. He finished in a tie for 26th in his title defense in what is now the Safeway Open, before tying for 17th in the CIMB Classic and finishing solo 11th in the WGC-HSBC Champions. Grillo has shown amazing consistency for a 24-year-old relative newcomer, having made the cut in his last 15 starts around the world - finishing in the top 20 in nine of those tournaments, with his last missed cut coming in the Players Championship in May. He is making his first start in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. Grillo tied for 10th in the Tour Championship in September after being one of only two rookies to qualify for the season finale.

3. Keegan Bradley, United States -- The 2011 PGA champion is starting to play the way he did early in his career, with three straight top-25 finishes to open the 2016-17 season. He tied for 22nd in the Safeway Open, the opener, and then finished solo seventh after playing the weekend in 68-68 in the CIMB Classic, before tying for sixth in the WGC-HSBC Champions, where only a 71 in round three kept him from really challenging in the final round. Bradley has three PGA Tour victories but hasn't won since the 2012 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. He made his first appearance in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba and wound up in a tie for eighth, shooting 68-66 on the weekend, but that was the first of only two finishes in the top 10 he had all season as he struggled with the transition after his anchored putter was banned. He seems to finally be getting on track with his conventional putter.

4. Jon Rahm, Spain -- The rookie out of Arizona State, who won the Ben Hogan Award as the best college player in the country the last two years, has made a seemingly seamless transition to the PGA Tour. He tied for 15th in both the Safeway Open and the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open to start the new season. That came after the Spaniard earned his PGA Tour card without going to the Web.com Tour finals by tying for third in the Quicken Loans National and tying for second in the RBC Canadian Open last summer. Earlier, he finished as low amateur in a tie for 23rd in the U.S. Open at Oakmont before turning pro. Rahm played in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba on a sponsor's exemption last year and posted a tie for 10th, but he had already showed he could play with the best in the world when he tied for fifth in the 2015 Waste Management Phoenix Open.

5. Jim Furyk, United States -- A year ago at this time, Furyk was just starting a 7 1/2-month absence because of a wrist injury that eventually required surgery, so he is getting an early start to the new season this week with his first appearance in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. He has won 27 times as a pro, including 17 on the PGA Tour highlighted by the 2003 U.S. Open at Olympia Fields near Chicago, and showed at times when he returned last year that he has plenty left in the tank at 46. Furyk's best result was a tie for second in the U.S. Open, three strokes behind Dustin Johnson, at Oakmont in his native Pennsylvania, and he recorded four more finishes in the top 25 the rest of the season. That included a tie for fifth in the Travelers Championship, when in the last round he became the first player in PGA Tour history to shoot 58.

6. Scott Piercy, United States -- Following something of a disappointing tie for 24th last week in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in his hometown of Las Vegas, Piercy is playing for the fifth consecutive week to start the new season. He was in the hunt for three rounds last week at TPC Summerlin before dropping back with an even-par 71 in the final round as the leaders went low. However, it's been a good start overall, as he tied for third in the Safeway Open and tied for 10th in the CIMB Classic before stumbling in a tie for 63rd in the WGC-HSBC Champions. A three-time winner on the PGA Tour, Piercy will tee it up this week in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba for the seventh time and last year he posted his best result, a tie for 16th, with a third-round 73 keeping him from a top-10 finish.

7. Graeme McDowell, Northern Ireland -- McDowell was suffering through his worst year as a pro when he went to Mexico last November to see if he could salvage anything early in the new season. He posted a 63 in the third round at El Camaleon Golf Club and shot 66 on the final day, holing an eight-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to get into a playoff with Russell Knox of Scotland and Jason Bohn. On the first extra hole, McDowell hit a brilliant 5-iron shot from 200 yards to within three feet and made the birdie putt to claim his third PGA Tour victory, including the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. McDowell returned home for two events in the United Kingdom recently, tying for 15th in the Alfred Dunhill Links Champion and tying for fourth British Masters, but he shot 70-70 -- 140 to miss the cut last week in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas.

8. Chris Kirk, United States -- After winning four times on the PGA Tour, including a victory in each of the previous three years, Kirk was winless in 2016 but has had a solid start to the new season. He tied for eighth in the Safeway Open, the 2016-17 opener, before tying for second, four shots behind winner Cody Gribble in the Sanderson Farms Champions, but had a hiccup last week when he tied for 61st in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Kirk opened strong with 66-65 in Las Vegas, but played the weekend in 75-74 and will be trying to bounce back this week in his first appearance in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. His fast start to the new season gave him three straight top-10 results, as he also tied for 10th in the BMW Championship, third event of the FedExCup playoffs in September, but that wasn't enough to get him into the season-ending Tour Championship.

9. Harris English, United States -- English was projected to be a star on the PGA Tour when he came out of the University of Georgia in 2011. After winning the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational as an amateur on what is now the Web.com Tour, English won twice on the PGA Tour in 2013. However, he hasn't found the winner's circle since, although the talent definitely is there. The second of those victories came in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, when he shot 62 in the second round on his way to a four-stroke victory over Brian Stuard. He tied for 37th in his title defense at El Camaleon Golf Club, but shot 72-71 -- 143 last year to miss the cut by three strokes. English came close twice last season, when he finished second in the Dean & DeLuca Invitational and third in the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and last week he tied for fourth in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open with four straight 67s.

10. Anirban Lahiri, India -- Lahiri, who is making his debut in the OHL Classic, has won 18 times as a pro in Asia and there are plenty of people who expect that to start happening soon on the PGA Tour. He came close three weeks ago in the CIMB Classic, building a four-stroke lead with scores of 66-66-65, but he closed with a 72 and slipped to a tie for third in Malaysia. He has been playing full-time on the U.S. Tour for only the last two years and has had his moments, like when he opened with a 64 to tie for the lead in the 2016 Career Builder Challenge, but he played the last three days in 68-71-71 and fell back to a tie for 29th in the Southern California desert. Lahiri's best result last season was a tie for sixth in the Dean & DeLuca Invitational, but his best performance in the U.S. probably was a tie for fifth in the 2015 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.

The Blues tied the game with 2:11 to go in the third period on a blast by Alex Pietrangelo.

PGA Tour Picks: OHL Classic at Mayakoba Odds and Expert Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews

It was a pretty watered-down field in Las Vegas last week for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, so I figured it was a good time to pick someone a bit off the radar to win -- and my choice was Scott Piercy. Alas, the American finished T24 after a final-round 71, his worst round of the week by far. He was in contention entering Sunday.

Your winner was way off the radar: Australian Rod Pampling. The 47-year-old shot a final-round 65 -- he also shot a course-record 60 in Round 1 -- to finish at 20-under 264 and beat out Brooks Koepka by two shots after making a 30-foot birdie on the 72nd hole at TPC Summerlin. It was Pampling's third career Tour win but his first in more than 10 years: his last was at Bay Hill in 2006. Pampling's last victory anywhere was the 2008 Australian Masters. He lost his Tour card after the 2013 season and played in the Web.com Tour Finals last month just to get his card back. Pampling is the oldest Tour winner ever from Australia and now will be exempt until he is eligible for the Champions Tour.

Lucas Glover, trying for his first victory in five years, was tied with Pampling with two holes to play until he made a bogey from the bunker on the par-3 17th. Glover, the former U.S. Open champion, did have his second straight Top 10 for the first time since 2006. It's Glover's third straight time where a 54-hole lead didn't lead to victory, however. As for Koepka, he shot a final-round 67 for his third runner-up finish on Tour in 2016.

Needless to say, I didn't touch on Pampling last week as I'm not even sure I knew he was still playing on the PGA Tour. Frankly, I had one of my worst tournaments of the year, missing on Top 10s for Ryan Moore (T15), Kevin Na (MC) and Jimmy Walker (MC). Took a shot on Graeme McDowell at +150 as the top player from Great Britain and Ireland, and he missed the cut too. I did hit a few head-to-head props, but let's put Vegas in the rearview mirror.

This week, the Tour heads back outside the United States for the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, staged at the El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It actually has a pretty solid purse, but it's still hard to lure the top names to Mexico for one of these fall events. Just four of the world's Top 35 are playing. There are a handful of Latin American guys in the field.

McDowell is the defending champion. He was rather fortunate to make the playoff at 18-under 266 as Russell Knox had a one-shot lead going to the 18th hole in the final round but hit his tee shot into a bunker and couldn't land his approach on the green. He would bogey to join McDowell and Jason Bohn in a Monday playoff (due to weather delays). McDowell nearly holed his approach back on 18, the first playoff hole, and tapped in for birdie to win it. For McDowell, it was his first win since the 2014 Open de France on the Euro Tour. It was his first on the PGA Tour since the 2013 RBC Heritage.

Golf Odds: OHL Classic at Mayakoba Favorites

Knox is the +1400 favorite. The Scotsman last played at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China and had a Top 10. He actually hasn't played that well in Mexico other than last year. But he won as recently as August at the Travelers Championship.

Emiliano Grillo is +1800. The Argentine also last played in China and was T11. It will be his first time playing this event. The favorites are rounded out by Jon Rahm (+2000), Mr. 58 Jim Furyk (+2000) in his first start of the new season and Keegan Bradley (+2200). Rahm has finished T15 in both Tour events this season, including last week. He was T10 in Mexico last year as an amateur. Bradley was T8 here last year and seventh last week, his second straight Top 10. Furyk didn't close the FedEx Cup playoffs that well and hasn't played in Mexico.

Golf Odds: OHL Classic at Mayakoba Picks

For a Top 10, go with Knox (+120), Chris Kirk (+250) and Harris English (+300). Kirk had been playing fantastic of late and opened last week strong before blowing up on the weekend. It's his debut here.

Go with Knox at +225 as the top Euro and Marc Leishman at +110 as the top Aussie. Head-to-head, go Billy Horschel (-155) over Derek Fathauer (+120), Tony Finau (-125) over Anirban Lahiri (-105), English (-115) over Piercy (-115), Kirk (even) over Bradley (-130), Rahm (-120) over Furyk, and Knox (-125) over Grillo (-105).

My winner is English at +2800. He won here in 2013 with a tournament-record score of 21-under 263. English hadn't been playing great for a while but might have found his game with a T4 last week.

In the Crease - Week 5
By Joe Williams

Streaky Teams

Wins and Losses Streak Over/Under Streak

Colorado 2-5 past 7 overall Dallas Under 6-2 past 8
N.Y. Rangers 5-0 past 5 and 8-1 past 9 overall, 6-0 past 6 home Philadelphia Over 6-1 past 7
Toronto 3-0 past 3 overall San Jose Under 8-0-1 past 9

Tropical Depression
The Carolina Hurricanes have yet to win back-to-back games this season. While goal scoring has not been much of an issue, as they have two or more goals in nine of their first 11, offense has tailed off recently. They're averaging just 1.7 goals per game (GPG) over the past three while the defense/goaltending has allowed at least two goals in each of their 11 outings this season. Eddie Lack has been especially poor when given opportunities to start, posting a 3.80 Goals-Against Average (GAA) in his four appearances thus far. The Hurricanes travel to New Jersey Tuesday for the second half of a home-and-home after getting pounded 4-1 in Raleigh Sunday.

Capital Punishment
The Washington Capitals play host to the San Jose Sharks Tuesday night in D.C., and Alexander Ovechkin and company are looking to extend their winning streak to six games. The Capitals are averaging 3.8 GPG during their current five-game win streak, and they are allowing 2.0 GPG during the span. The Sharks enter 1-4 in their past five games on the road, and 1-4 in their past five against teams with a winning record, while the Caps have won 42 of their past 58 at home. However, if Washington is going to push their win streak to six they will need to turn around some ugly history against San Jose. The Sharks have won 11 of their past 12 visits to the nation's capital, while going 22-4-1 in the past 27 meetings in this series. The road team is victorious in six of the past seven. The 'under' has been hot for San Jose lately, going 8-0-1 in their past nine, and the under is 6-2-1 in the past nine meetings in this series in Washington.

Looking Ahead

Thursday, Oct. 27
The Predators host the Blues in Music City, and this rivalry has been a bit one-sided in recent seasons. Dating back to Feb. 23, 2012, St. Louis is an impressive 15-4 in the past 19 meetings, including 7-3 in their past 10 trips to Nashville. Early on in this series, the 'under' was the play, but lately we have seen a lot of fireworks between the two sides. The 'over' is 7-3-3 in the past 13 meetings. ... The Flames host the Stars in the first meeting between these teams this season. The Flames are 3-1-1 in the past five meetings with the Stars, and each of the past two meetings at the Saddledome have been determined in a shootout, while each of the past three meetings in Calgary have been one-goal games.

Friday, Oct. 28
The Stars continue their road trip in Northern Alberta against the high-flying Oilers. This series has been anything but high-scoring lately, though, with the 'under' going 12-4-2 in the past 18 meetings dating back to Jan. 26, 2011, including 6-1-2 in the past nine meetings in Edmonton. The 'under' has cashed in four straight on home ice for the Oilers in their new building heading into the new week. ... Colorado hosts Winnipeg for the second time this season. The first matchup Oct. 28 resulted in a 1-0 win by the Jets, and two of the past three games for the Avalanche at home have had a 1-0 score (one win, one loss). Five of the past seven meetings in this series have resulted in an 'under' play. Winnipeg enters Friday's game on a three-game win streak in the series, including each of the past two in Denver.

Preview: Blue Jackets (6-3) at Bruins (7-6)

Date: November 10, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

BOSTON -- After winning an ugly game at home, the Columbus Blue Jackets visit the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.

"I think it's a step in the right direction in winning a game a different way," Columbus coach John Tortorella said after his team blew an early 2-0 lead but got an overtime goal by 19-year-old defenseman Zach Werenski and completed a sweep of the two-game series with the Anaheim Ducks with a 3-2 home victory Wednesday night.

"A disjointed game," Tortorella said. "Were we really good? No. But I think it's a big step in the right direction in winning those games early, that's where you get your points in the National Hockey League as you see where you are come April and March.

"It was just an ugly game. I remember those games last year; we'd lose those games and maybe lose them by two or three. I'm happier about a game like this than when you win a game that's clean."

Added Nick Foligno: "We gutted one out. We found an ugly one. I'm not taking anything away from a win here, but we've gotta play a better game tomorrow, we're going into Boston."

The Blue Jackets have just started playing without defenseman Seth Jones, out with a broken foot. Brandon Dubinsky was out Wednesday, others returned -- and Brandon Saad went from a possible healthy scratch to scoring a goal and an assist.

This team is playing well, with points in eight of the last nine games to raise the season record to 6-3-2.They have won four in a row at home after the Bruins opened the season by wiping out 2-0 and 3-1 Columbus leads and winning 6-3 on opening night.

The Bruins suffered a tough loss in Montreal, falling to 7-6-0. They beat the Buffalo Sabres in Boston Monday for their second win in five home games, and find themselves in a stretch of five games in seven night.

Boston outshot Montreal 43-23 only to lose on a late goal, dropping their second straight game against the Rival Canadiens.

"I thought we deserved obviously much more than what we got tonight," said Bruins coach Claude Julien. "It was disappointing in a way, but encouraging in another that we played so well on a back-to-back game in this kind of situation. I think if we keep this right kind of attitude and focus then we'll win more than we'll lose."

With Tuesday the back end of a back-to-back, rookie Zane McIntyre was in goal for the Bruins in Montreal. Tuukka Rask, who shook off a shaky outing against the New York Rangers last Saturday, shut out Buffalo and is 7-1 on the season. He is an impressive 6-2 with a 1.99 goals against average and .932 save percentage against the Blue Jackets, winning that Game 1 start -- and is the likely starter Thursday.

Sergei Bobrovsky was in goal for the Jackets Wednesday, improving to 6-3-1 with a 1.81 goals against average on the season. Curtis McElhinney has played only once, losing a game in overtime.

There was no official word regarding the Columbus goalie Thursday but two things point at McElhinney. One, it is the back end of a back-to-back. And two, McElhinney is 2-2-0 with a 2.27 goals against and .930 save percentage against Boston. Bobrovsky is just 0-3-2 with a 2.84/.916.

With Patrice Bergeron out injured in the opener, David Backes, playing his first game as a Bruin, centered Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak. The line totaled 12 points with each player scoring twice
