KEY STAT: Sampdoria have lost two of their last 24 Serie A home games

EXPERT VERDICT: Sampdoria have the second-best home record in Serie A and and should soon be in the ascendency when they take on struggling Empoli at the Luigi Ferraris stadium. Walter Zenga's side are averaging just under three goals per home game and should not fear Empoli, who have lost three of their four road fixtures.

RECOMMENDATION: Sampdoria-Sampdoria double result

KEY STAT: Both teams have scored in Cheltenham’s last six games

EXPERT VERDICT: This is a mouthwatering clash at the top of the National League with little to choose between the two. Grimsby have lost one of nine home league games, while Cheltenham have lost just one of nine on the road. However, both sides are in rich goalscoring form so goals should be on menu.

RECOMMENDATION: Both teams to score

KEY STAT: There have been 19 goals in the six Brentford Championship home games

EXPERT VERDICT: Go for three or more goals in what should be an entertaining derby at Griffin Park. The Bees of Brentford look like they’re buzzing again, winning three matches in a week, while a 3-0 success over MK Dons on Saturday must have lifted QPR’s spirits after a miserable run.

RECOMMENDATION: Both teams to score

KEY STAT: Wolves have conceded seven goals in their past three games

EXPERT VERDICT: Back Birmingham to make it four straight defeats for Wolves in this west Midlands derby at St Andrew’s. The Blues had won four on the spin before Saturday’s loss at Hull and they claimed the spoils in last April’s renewal of this clash, winning 2-1.

KEY STAT: Aberdeen haven’t kept a clean sheet in six outings

EXPERT VERDICT: Aberdeen have been pressing at the top end of the Premiership this term but have gone off the boil lately, going four league games without a win. Celtic have bossed this fixture in recent years, winning seven of the last nine league meetings, and should put another dent in the Dons’ title challenge.

KEY STAT: Chelsea have kept just two clean sheets in their last 13 Premier League games

EXPERT VERDICT: Jurgen Klopp steered Liverpool to a 0-0 draw at Tottenham on his last visit to London and his side can take a point at Stamford Bridge. Klopp has inherited a team with many faults but Liverpool showed improvement against Southampton and can unsettle Chelsea, who are unrecognisable from the squad who coasted to the title last term.

Dolphins, Pats hook up

MIAMI DOLPHINS (3-3) at NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (6-0)

New England -8, Total: 51.5

Since a humiliating 27-14 loss to the Jets in London on Oct. 4 that cost head coach Joe Philbin his job, Miami (3-3 ATS) has played inspired football under interim head coach Dan Campbell with a pair of blowout wins at Tennessee (38-10) and versus Houston (44-26) last week. New England (3-1-2 ATS) has won all six of its games by at least seven points, including a 30-23 victory over the division rival Jets last week.

The home team has prevailed in five straight meetings in this series (SU and ATS) and the Dolphins have suffered six straight losses (2-4 ATS) in Foxboro, including a 41-13 shellacking from the Patriots last season. Most of the betting trends expect another New England win and cover, such as its 11-2 ATS record since the start of last season when coming off a game where 50+ points were scored and Bill Belichick's 32-16 ATS mark versus teams averaging 6+ yards per play as the team's head coach. But Miami is 39-23 ATS on the road after a 2-1 ATS stretch since 1992, and is 8-2 ATS versus excellent passing teams (260+ YPG) over the past three seasons.

With the short week, both teams have some injury concerns with two Dolphins defenders questionable in DT A.J. Francis (back) and CB Bobby McCain (knee) and four key Patriots donning the similar questionable tag in top RB Dion Lewis (abdominal), LB Jabaal Sheard (ankle),OT Marcus Cannon (toe) and OL Shaquille Mason (knee).

The one clear edge Miami has in this game is its rushing attack, as the club averages 118 YPG on 5.3 YPC, compared to New England's 84 YPG on 3.9 YPC. In the past two weeks, the Dolphins have run for 428 yards on 67 carries (6.4 YPC). Fourth-year RB Lamar Miller (419 rush yds, 6.0 YPC, 2 TD) is coming off a monster afternoon against Houston where he rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries (12.5 YPC) while adding 61 receiving yards and another score. Miller did not play well in Foxboro last year with 47 yards on 16 carries (2.9 YPC), but he did pile up 78 yards and a touchdown when Miami defeated the Patriots at home in 2014.

QB Ryan Tannehill is also coming off a huge performance against Houston when he completed 18-of-19 throws for 282 yards (14.8 YPA), 4 TD and 0 INT. That gives him 271 passing YPG, 13 TD and 7 INT for the season. The fourth-year pro is 2-4 in his career in this series, where he has completed only 57% of his throws for 242 YPG, 8 TD and 6 INT.

The Miami defense has actually played better on the road (17.5 PPG allowed) than at home (22.8 PPG allowed), but it is still allowing too many first downs (21.5 per game) leading to a 32:13 average time of possession. While the passing defense is surrendering 240 YPG on 6.8 YPA, the run-stop unit hasn't been much better with opponents rushing for 129 YPG on 4.1 YPC. But after forcing only one turnover during a three-game losing skid, the Dolphins have five takeaways during their two-game win surge. However, they are facing a franchise that rarely makes mistakes with just three giveaways all season, including one in the past four games combined.

New England has scored at least 28 points in all six games this season, averaging 35.5 PPG on 411 total YPG. But most of this production has been due to the stellar play of QB Tom Brady through the air, as the ground game has only 3.9 YPC (3.4 YPC at home) and is coming off a 9-carry, 16-yard showing against the Jets. Brady has been nearly perfect in 2015, completing 69% of his throws for 342 YPG (8.2 YPA), 16 TD and just 1 INT. He's also had his share of success against the Dolphins with a 16-6 record, 236 passing YPG, 41 TD and 18 INT. During his team's five-game home win streak versus Miami, Brady has thrown for 238 YPG, eight touchdowns and only two picks.

In 2015, he has thrown TD passes to seven different receivers with TE Rob Gronkowski (533 rec yds, 6 TD) and WR Julian Edelman (503 rec yds, 4 TD) already more than halfway to 1,000 yards in just six games. In the blowout win versus Miami last season, the duo combined for 10 catches and 184 yards and each scored a touchdown.

The Patriots defense has given up a bunch of yards (359 total YPG), but has allowed only 21.0 PPG. The run-stop unit needs to improve its 4.5 YPC allowed, and the secondary has to trim its 248 YPG on 63% completions and 6.5 YPA. New England has done a decent job in forcing mistakes with eight takeaways so far this season, and has a powerful enough pass rush (21 sacks) to be able to pressure Tannehill, who has been sacked 16 times this season.

Dolphins (3-3) @ Patriots (6-0) -- Miami is 2-0 under interim coach Campbell, running ball for 428 yards, completing 84% of passes, but that was vs Titans/Texans. Dolphins are 0-6 in last six visits to Foxboro, with five losses by 10+ points- they did beat Patriots last two years in Miami. Patriots are 27-20-2 as home favorites since '09 (1-0-2 this year) winning by 7-34-7 points. In last four games, NE foes started 36 of 41 drives 80+ yards from goal line; they're dominating field position. Since '07, Dolphins are 34-19-2 as road underdogs (1-0 this year). Pats won last four Thursday games (2-2 vs spread); Miami lost three of last five Thursday tilts. Over is 4-1 in last five games for both teams; Miami scored TD on defense in each of their last two games.

NFL Week 8 Essentials
By Tony Mejia

Miami at New England: Count on reigniting the ground game being a major part of the plan for the undefeated Patriots after an uneven performance against the Jets. Running back Dion Lewis was inactive on Sunday and would give the offense a boost if he’s available after an abdomen injury. Lewis practiced Tuesday. The Dolphins have blown out a pair of opponents to begin the Dan Campbell era but are facing their biggest challenge here, one that will answer questions about how the coaching staff matches up. As has been the case the past two weeks, Miami’s pass rush will play a huge role if we’re going to see an upset bid. Cameron Wake and Ndamakong Suh could feast on the Patriots revamped offensive line, but Brady’s ability to get rid of the ball quickly will likely neutralize that potential disadvantage.

Dolphins try to keep revival going

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) Dan Campbell needed only two weeks to get the Miami Dolphins out of last place.

Reaching first place will take a lot longer, but a win Thursday at New England would be a big step in that direction.

The Dolphins (3-3) have saved their season with back-to-back blowout wins since interim coach Campbell replaced Joe Philbin, raising the stakes for Thursday's game at AFC East leader New England (6-0).

With only three days between games, it's a quick turnaround for a team staging a quick turnaround.

''We really need this win,'' Campbell said. ''We're capable of beating this team. They're not going to be easy. They never are. You've got Tom Brady, you've got the great Bill Belichick.''

Philbin went 0-3 in Foxborough, losing by a combined score of 96-30. But the Dolphins have been different under Campbell, who said he took over a team of sleeping giants and promptly roused them.

Miami built a 41-0 lead Sunday and went on to beat Houston 44-26. A week earlier, in Campbell's debut as a head coach, the Dolphins won at Tennessee, 38-10.

''The Dolphins have played great the last two weeks in all areas of the game,'' Belichick said Monday. ''They've got plays coming from everywhere.''

Buried two weeks ago, Miami is now back in the playoff mix. Only five AFC teams have a better record.

It's heady stuff for a franchise that hasn't been to the postseason since 2008, and hasn't won a playoff game since 2000. The resurgence had fans Sunday chanting ''Dan! Dan!''

''I thought that Marino had walked out,'' Campbell joked.

The Dolphins began the season with playoff hopes, and the past two weeks suggest they sorely underachieved under Philbin. Now that they're winning, can they keep it up?

An upset victory at New England would represent a breakthrough in more ways than one. There have been 21 other interim coaches in the NFL since 2001, and none won his first three games, according to STATS.

The Dolphins believe Campbell is the man for the job.

''With the changes that happened, we honestly feel like it was a new season,'' linebacker Kelvin Sheppard said. ''That's from the top down. That's what our head man stands before us and says. We've all bought into that, and that's we truly what we believe.''

Sunday reinforced belief. Miami scored on four plays covering 50 yards or more. Running back Lamar Miller had 236 yards from scrimmage even though he sat out the second half. Ryan Tannehill threw four touchdown passes in the first 16 minutes and connected on his first 18 attempts, breaking an NFL record for consecutive completions.

''Every time they'd score and Ryan came off the field, I said, `You going to score 60 today?''' Sheppard said. ''He said, `Just give me the ball back.'''

The defense dominated, too. Houston had six three-and-outs and a pick-six before managing a first down.

''To me, that's the way we play defense here,'' Campbell said. ''And for that matter, that's the way we should play offense: We're fast, we're aggressive, we don't make mistakes.''

Miami will need to keep playing that way, because Sunday marked the end of the soft part of the schedule. The Dolphins expected to have five or six wins by now, and they'll try to make up the deficit somewhere, which won't be easy with road games the next three weeks.

Even so, Campbell's players are confident their climb in the standings will continue.

''There's a storm coming, man, like coach Campbell says all the time,'' receiver Jarvis Landry said. ''He took over as head coach, and that was one of the first things: `There's a storm coming. We're going to wake these giants up.'

''So far, so good.''

Preview: Miami at New England

When: 8:25 PM ET, Thursday, October 29, 2015
Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts

A change in head coaches has been akin to a magic wand for the revitalized Miami Dolphins, who have rolled up 82 points in romping to a pair of lopsided victories since Dan Campbell replaced the fired Joe Philbin. The Dolphins may need some magic when they head north to visit Tom Brady and the undefeated New England Patriots in an AFC East matchup on Thursday night.

Miami had lost three in a row and failed to score more than 20 points in each of its first four games before Philbin was let go, but it has responded to the change with a 38-10 romp at Tennessee before a 44-26 mauling of Houston on Sunday. “You look at our work out there and it really was a team effort,” Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill said after leading his team to a 41-0 halftime lead over the Texans on Sunday. New England rallied from a 20-16 fourth-quarter deficit to beat the visiting New York Jets 30-23 in a showdown for division supremacy. The Patriots, who are averaging a league-best 35.5 points, have won eight of the last 10 meetings versus Miami.

TV: 8:25 p.m. ET, CBS, NFL Network. LINE: Patriots -8. O/U: 51

ABOUT THE DOLPHINS (3-3): Tannehill compiled a perfect passer rating of 158.3 while going 18-of-19 for 282 yards with four touchdowns while establishing an NFL record with 25 consecutive completions over a two-game span. The biggest beneficiary of the coaching change has been running back Lamar Miller, who averaged 32.8 yards rushing in his first four games before putting up 113 yards against Tennessee and 175 versus Houston while scoring in both games. The Dolphins have also come alive on the other side of the ball by recording nine of their sacks over the past two games.

ABOUT THE PATRIOTS (6-0): Facing a Jets defense that ranked among the league leaders in nearly every category, New England eschewed the run and put the ball in the hands of Brady, who threw for 355 yards and a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns. Brady, who became the fifth QB in league history to surpass 55,000 yards, has 16 TD passes versus one interception and his favorite targets are Julian Edelman (45 receptions, four TDs) and behemoth tight end Rob Gronkowski, who already has six receiving scores. The Patriots are allowing 21 points per game but rank fourth in the league with 21 sacks.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Brady is 8-0 on Thursday nights with 20 touchdowns and two interceptions.

2. The Dolphins beat visiting New England 33-20 in the 2014 season opener by scoring 23 unanswered second-half points.

3. Edelman has 26 catches for 322 yards and two TDs in the last three meetings versus Miami.

Preview: North Carolina at Pittsburgh

When: 7:00 PM ET, Thursday, October 29, 2015
Where: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

North Carolina attempts to build a seven-game winning streak for the first time since 1997 when it visits Pittsburgh on Thursday in a battle between two of the ACC Coastal Division’s three unbeaten teams. The Tar Heels have limited five of their last six opponents to 14 points or fewer while 24th-ranked Pittsburgh has won four straight contests – all by seven points or fewer.

“If it’s a close game you have to step up and make something happen,” Panthers coach Pat Narduzzi told reporters. “Our offense did it (last) weekend and our defense did it the past couple (weekends).” Pittsburgh quarterback Nathan Peterman has thrown six touchdown passes with no interceptions during the win streak and his top target Tyler Boyd is one of the nation’s most productive receivers. North Carolina, which hosts the other unbeaten Coastal squad Duke next week, boasts the league’s best passing defense (137.3 yards against per game) and senior quarterback Marquise Williams leads the top-ranked offense in the ACC. “Last five games are going to be tough,” Williams told the Raleigh News & Observer. “We’ve just got to stick together as a team.”

TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN. LINE: North Carolina -3

ABOUT NORTH CAROLINA (6-1, 3-0 ACC): Williams has completed 66.9 percent of his passes and thrown four interceptions in the last six games after tossing three in the opener. Quinshad Davis (30 catches, 328 yards) is one of four Tar Heels receivers to have accumulated at least 300 yards this season and needs two receptions to pass Hakeem Nicks (181) for the school record. Elijah Hood has rushed for 100 or more yards four times in 2015 – including each of the last two games – and scored eight TDs while Williams is gaining seven yards per carry.

ABOUT PITTSBURGH (6-1, 4-0): Boyd leads the league in catches (8.8) and receiving yards (81.5) per game while completing both of his pass attempts and rushing for 68 yards. “He’s done it all,” Narduzzi told reporters. “I don’t know why people aren’t talking about him for the Heisman.” Qadree Ollison has filled in nicely after James Conner was lost for the season with a knee injury, totaling 662 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground, while the Panthers boast 22 sacks – second in the ACC and three more than all of last season.

EXTRA POINTS

1. The Tar Heels have outscored Pittsburgh 74-62 while winning the last two meetings and lead the series 6-3 overall.

2. Williams needs 14 yards to become the fifth ACC QB to rush for at least 2,000 in his career and has accounted for 76 career TDs -- three shy of Darian Durant’s North Carolina record.

3. Boyd needs 76 yards to become the third Pitt receiver to reach 3,000 in his career and 138 to pass Antonio Bryant for first on the school’s all-time list.

Preview: West Virginia at Texas Christian

When: 7:30 PM ET, Thursday, October 29, 2015
Where: Amon G. Carter Stadium, Fort Worth, Texas

Third-ranked TCU looks for its eighth consecutive win this season and 16th straight overall victory when it hosts West Virginia on Thursday in a Big 12 contest. The Horned Frogs are battling Baylor and Oklahoma State for the conference crown and are thriving behind an offense that has topped 600 yards five times this season.

Senior quarterback Trevone Boykin is a Heisman Trophy candidate but senior receiver Josh Doctson is shattering the TCU record books with 60 receptions for 1,067 yards and 12 touchdowns -- the latter two marks surpass his own school records set last season. "I'm just stepping up, trying to be better than I was last year," Doctson told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I guess the results are the numbers that are being put up. I'm not really drooling over how much success I'm having this year. I'm just glad that we're 7-0." West Virginia has lost three consecutive games and the thought of having to outscore the Horned Frogs isn't one coach Dana Holgorsen wants to entertain. "I would like to get to a point where we can," Holgorsen said at a press conference. "I've been involved in some games where it's been fairly high scoring-games. We just haven't been there yet."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1. LINE: TCU -14.

ABOUT WEST VIRGINIA (3-3, 0-3 Big 12): Junior quarterback Skyler Howard is a native of Fort Worth and he returns home with stats of 1,566 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions. Junior running back Wendell Smallwood has rushed for 678 yards and five touchdowns while big-play sophomore receiver Shelton Gibson (23 catches, six touchdowns) is averaging 23.5 yards per reception and 30.2 yards on kickoffs with one return score. The defense suffered a blow earlier this month when senior safety Karl Joseph (five interceptions) suffered a season-ending knee injury but the unit is receiving strong play from senior strong-side linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski (team-best 39 tackles) and senior middle linebacker Jared Barber (team-leading seven tackles for losses).

ABOUT TCU (7-0, 4-0): Boykin has been superb by passing for 2,539 yards and 25 touchdowns against just five interceptions but struggled badly against the Mountaineers last season when he was 12-of-30 for 166 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Doctson has recorded five straight 100-yard receiving outings and has also caught at least one touchdown pass in each of those games, while senior running back Aaron Green (632 yards, eight touchdowns) will attempt to rebound after having just seven yards on 12 carries in TCU's most-recent game against Iowa State. Junior defensive end Josh Carraway has a team-leading 4.5 sacks while senior free safety Derrick Kindred (42 tackles, one interception) excels in the back end.

EXTRA POINTS

1. The teams have split four previous meetings and Horned Frogs senior K Jaden Oberkrom was the hero last season by kicking a 37-yard field goal as time expired to give TCU a 31-30 victory.

2. The Mountaineers are 2-13 under Holgorsen when allowing more than 40 points.

3. Horned Frogs freshman WR KaVontae Turpin (upper-body injury) will likely miss the contest, leaving a hole in the return game as he is averaging 29.1 yards on kickoffs and 12.2 on punts.

Preview: Oregon at Arizona State

When: 10:30 PM ET, Thursday, October 29, 2015
Where: Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe, Arizona

Two teams that have fallen short of expectations meet Thursday as Oregon visits Arizona State, which has lost eight straight in the series. The contest features two of the top running backs in the Pac-12 in Oregon’s Royce Freeman and Arizona State’s Demario Richard, who is expected to start after missing the Sun Devils’ 34-18 loss to Utah on Oct. 17 due to a knee injury.

Freeman ranks fourth nationally in rushing yards at 142.4 per game to power Oregon, which remained in the Pac-12 North race with a 26-20 win over Washington on Oct. 17. The victory marked the return of Ducks quarterback Vernon Adams Jr., who threw two touchdown passes against the Huskies after missing 11 quarters due to a broken index finger. “He’s everything for them,” Arizona State coach Todd Graham told reporters. "That’s one of the things that’s caused them to struggle is not having him. He’s just so athletic and extends plays. He’s so dangerous when he’s scrambling around throwing the ball down the field.” Adams will need to be alert against an aggressive Sun Devils defense that blitzes as much as any team in the nation but ranks last in the Pac-12 with a minus-0.57 turnover ratio.

ABOUT OREGON (4-3, 2-2 Pac-12): The Ducks’ passing game received a boost against the Huskies with the season debut of wide receiver Darren Carrington, who caught two touchdown passes after missing the first six games of the season due to suspension. Defensive end DeForest Buckner has five sacks to lead a unit that held Washington in check after allowing a total of 1,171 yards in losses to Utah and Washington State. The Ducks have recorded 16 sacks over the last three games and shown improvement in the secondary, where two-way player Charles Nelson is set to make his third straight start at safety.

ABOUT ARIZONA STATE (4-3, 2-2): The Sun Devils failed to score an offensive touchdown in its last game and needs more consistency from quarterback Mike Bercovici, who ranks 10th in the conference in efficiency. Linebacker Salamo Fiso and safety Jordan Simone lead the Sun Devil defense, which ranks second in the Pac-12 against the rush but will be tested by Freeman and a Ducks offense that averages a league-leading 297.4 rushing yards. Arizona State also boasts a top kick returner in Tim White, who could be a difference-maker against an Oregon coverage unit that has allowed 22.9 yards per kickoff.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Arizona State is 19-5 at Sun Devil Stadium under Graham.

2. Oregon has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 75 straight games dating to Sept. 4, 2010.

3. Sun Devils WR D.J. Foster has caught a pass in an FBS-leading 47 consecutive games, one shy of the Pac-12 record held by Kareem Kelly of USC (1999-2002).
