Since every MLB wager on a run line or total auto-lists pitchers, I want you to be sure the two pitchers on your ticket, when making this play, are Jason Vargas and Max Scherzer. If they are not the pitchers of record when making your play, disregard this play.
The Mets are pushing Vargas back in their rotation to keep everyone else on a regular five-day schedule. And while things get back to routine status, make note the left-hander is 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA in his last three starts. Now he heads into D.C., where the Nats bats have heated up to the tune of a 7-3 winning run. Matt Shoemaker will make just his 5th start since his return from injury way back on March 31st when he left his start against the A's with 3 runs allowed in his 5-plus innings worked.
Edwin Jackson will counter, and his last start against the Angels was an August 11th win over L.A. in which he did not allow a run in his 7-plus worked.
Oakland knows Tampa Bay is not losing these days, so they need to keep winning to stay in postseason position.
