Pittsburgh +1.21 over CAROLINA
If Jim Rutherford thinks that Paul Maurice is going to get more out of the Canes then Peter Laviolette then Sean Avery is going to get a Christmas card from Dion Phaneuf. Maurice is a not a good coach at all, coaching a bad hockey team. I’ve suggested a few times this season that the Canes just don’t have much once you get past Eric Staal and even he’s not having such a good year. Carolina has shaky goaltending, a brutal blue-line in terms of moving the puck out and these Penguins exploit those flaws as good as anyone. Anyway, the Canes might have a little extra jump in their step tonight because of the new coach angle but the fact remains that they’re the second best team in this match-up and it’s not close. This line is out of whack so get on it early. Play: Pittsburgh +1.20 (Risking 2 units).

NY Rangers +1.33 over MONTREAL
The Habs have won three of four which may give some a little false sense of security but a close looks shows narrow wins over both Buffalo and Atlanta and against the Thrashers they blew a 3-0 lead before a late goal in the third. The Canadiens other win was against the Red Wings at the Joe but that game came upon the Wings returning home from a trip. Still, a win is a win and a win in Detroit should not be undermined, however, the Habs simply aren’t playing so great and haven’t been for the whole month of November. They’re absolutely not as good as Guy Carboneau thinks they are. The Rangers are coming off a nice 3-2 OT win last night over the Penguins. They’ve won four of five and they’re starting to score more goals. The Rangers scoring three or four is scary when your goaltender is named Lundqvist. Rangers always get juiced playing in Montreal and they’re taking back a pretty sweet price here. Overlay. Play: NY Rangers +1.33 (Risking 2 units).

Buffalo –1½ +2.42 over FLORIDA
Give the Panthers a ton of credit for working hard and getting results to go along with it. Florida has picked up points in five straight games (three wins and two OT losses) and it didn’t come against weak opposition. They played the Rangers twice and the Caps, Devils and Canes once each. That’s a great run but it sure looks like it’ll end here. Florida returns home to a half empty arena after a brief two-game trip. They’ll be without the services of David Booth, Nathan Horton, Cory Stillman, Cory Murphy and Richard Zednik. Furthermore, they’ll be facing a Sabres team desperate for wins and one that cannot afford to take a night off. Chances are good we’ll see a flat Panther team after five very intense and close games and while laying 1½-pucks is always risky, the price and situation make this wager one worth considering and I’m stepping in. Play: Buffalo –1½ +2.42 (Risking 2 units).
