HOME TEAM IN CAPS
All games include OT unless stated otherwise
Edmonton –1.03 over NEW JERSEY (REG)
The Oilers are in the midst of a grueling schedule that’s seen them play its last five on the road and its last eight of nine games away from home. However, they had a much-needed three-day rest coming into this one and they finally finish up tomorrow at MSG. The Oilers are coming off a game in which they trailed 5-0 to Pittsburgh and a wild flurry saw them come back and just fall short, 5-4. Their last three games have all been scores of 5-4 (one win and a two losses) and the good news is that the offense is scoring and so they should be. The Oilers offense is heads above the Devils and it’s also worth noting that the Devils were in a very physical game last night in Detroit. This Devil team is running mostly on fumes because of a slew of significant injuries and now Gionta and Salvador will likely join Brodeur, Brian Rolston, Bobby Holik, Paul Martin and Andy Greene, as well as call-up Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond on the rack for at least one game. It appears as though Scott Clemmensen will make his season debut in net. The Devils are handicapped big time and will continue to struggle offensively, defensively and in goal. Great opportunity and no excuses for the Oil here, who should smell a wounded animal and go in for the kill. Play: Edmonton –1.03 (Risking 2.06 units to win 2).

CHICAGO -½ +1.00 over Calgary (REG)
The money line sees the Blackhawks a –1.79 favorite and that’s a huge number for Chicago to be favored over Calgary. Under normal circumstances the Blackhawks would be –1.40 or maybe even less against this intruder but the oddsmakers know that the Flames backs are to the wall and they’ll gladly accept all the Flame money they can entice. Calgary will play its fifth game this week, its third game in four days and the tail-end of back-to-backs after losing in Columbus last night. They started the week in Anaheim last Sunday and then came home to play Phoenix and Nashville before playing in Columbus. So, not only is it their fifth game of the week but it’s the fourth different time zone they’ll play in. Besides all that, they’re reeling again with three losses in four games and if you think they looked lethargic in Columbus last night you can double that tonight. That freak Mike Keenan will probably make them go through a two-hour practice today. Anyway, the Blackhawks have won three straight and scored 15 times in doing so. They’ve been off since Monday, thus, this one is hardly fair. Play: Chicago -½ +1.00 (Risking 3 units).

PHOENIX +1.33 over San Jose
If I’m going to play against the Flames under the aforementioned conditions then I’m going to play the Coyotes too. You see, the Sharkies will also be playing their fifth game this week, their third game in four days and the tail-end of back-to-backs. The difference is the Sharks have won seven in a row but that might be a good thing, as they’re not close to being desperate for win and they can afford to take a night off. Phoenix is playing some very decent hockey and the more I watch this host play the more I like them. They’re tough, they’re talented, they play hard for 60 minutes every night and they absolutely have a great chance to beat the Sharks here. Play: Phoenix +1.33 (Risking 2 units).
