Boston +1.54 over Buffalo
The Sabres are off to a terrific start and have yet to lose in regulation in five tries. They’re scoring goals and in a year in which goal scoring is way up, Buffalo has yet to allow more then two goals in any of their five games. Still, it’s very early and the while the Sabres may be improved, they’re still overpriced here. The B’s are coming off a shootout loss at home to the Pens last night but they deserved a better fate. They played a great game but ran into a super-hot goaltender and that’s just the way the puck bounces sometimes. This will be the Bruins third game in four night and that has some influence on the line but it won’t be too often the rest of the year (barring significant injuries) that a take-back like this will be offered on Boston because they very well could be one of the elite teams in the league this season. Man, this Boston team can skate, they can play tough, there are a slew of talented players and I’ll take my chances on them every time with a better then 3-2 take-back. Play: Boston +1.54 (Risking 2 units).

Anaheim -½ +1.25 over TORONTO (REG)
Speaking of teams that deserved a better fate and one need not look further then the Ducks home game on Sunday against the Canes. It looked like Carolina played the whole third period and most of the second shorthanded; that’s how dominant the Ducks were. Canes goaltender, Michael Leighton, came up with the best goalie performance of the year in that game. It was definitely a frustrating night for Anaheim and all in all it’s been a frustrating 1-5 start to the year but this is not a 1-5 team and the road might be just what the doctor ordered. Prior to Sunday’s loss, the Ducks beat up on the Sharks 4-0 and thus, they should have two wins in a row because they were that dominant on Sunday. They’ll catch a Maple Leaf team that gets an “A” for effort but that’s outclassed here by a wide, wide margin. I might not play this game if the Ducks record was 5-1 but it’s not and this intruder is hungry as hell. Also consider that teams will often play their best games in Toronto because it’s the center of the hockey world and every team has players that are from Ontario so they get a little extra juiced playing here. The Leafs have been better on the road then they have at home and Vesa Toskala is off to his traditional slow start. The Ducks will be completely amped up for this one and will treat it like a playoff game. The Leafs catch the Ducks at about the worst possible time. This intruder is so ready to pop. Play: Anaheim -½ +1.25 (Risking 2 units).<o></o>

TAMPA BAY -½ +1.13 over Atlanta (REG)
Mike Smith will get the call again for the Bolts and right now there might not be a better goaltender in the league. I liked this guy when he was with the Stars and now that he’s a #1 goaltender he’s proving his worth and well beyond it. Smith has a GAA of 1.90 and a save percentage of .944 and the Lightning have allowed just 12 goals in five games. Sure, Tampa is struggling offensively but when you have Vincent LeCavalier and you keep getting chances, the puck will start going in. The Lightning are winless but they’ve played some strong games and they’re just not getting the bounces right now. This team will get off the mattress very soon and it’s not like they’re playing some offensive powerhouse here. Atlanta, too, is having trouble finding the back of the net, as they’ve scored just seven times in their last four games and it won’t get any easier against Smith. The Lightning have home-ice advantage, they have a big edge in net and they’re desperately in need of a win. It says here they get it. Play: Tampa Bay -½ +1.13 (Risking 2 units).
