Bobby Clarke (honorable mention)

Teddy Green, Bruins defenseman in the 60's and very early 70's. He played with a plate in his head, as a result of a stick duel with an opposing palyer whose name escapes me. Because of the plate, Green was the first guy to wear a helmet in the NHL. The duel was like the stick fight in Slap Shot, neither player dropped their sticks or gloves, they just clubbed, and jabbed each other with their stick blades. Teddy was one rough player and hated in every city in the NHL, except Boston of course.

Chico Maki is the guy who inserted the metel plate in Teddy's skull.

And just off the top of my head...
Kenny Linesman had to be up their as one of the most hated along with Claude Lemieux. Or should I say "Turtle Lemieux"

Being from NJ my vote has to be Ti Domi (The GOON). Not that famous elsewhere, but hated around here.

Bushay:

It was Chico's brother Wayne Maki who gave Ted the plate. Wayne died, oddly enough, from a brain tumor himself sometime later.

My vote for most despised is John Ferguson during his time with the Habs.

Hey Bobby,

You're probably just jealous of your namesake!!!

Did u ever see Clarke in person? Was one of the best 2-way players of all time. Did you know he is also a diabetic? Cut him some slack. From now on, be positive or be quiet.

You are absolutely right, I even remember the tragic and very ironic brain tumor story about Wayne Maki's death. Another hated, and I mean hated player was Flyer goon, Dave Schultz.

BobbyB,Bobby Clarke the player and Clarke the GM are really two different individuals. Bobby Clarke the little plick is the reason the Bruins lost the cup in 1974. Game two at the Gahden, Clarke put an overtime wrister past Jerry Cheevers to win a road game and tie up the finals 1 to 1. Flyers took it all in 6, when Bernie Parent shut out the Bruins 1 to 0 in Phillly.

Barnaby....

I remember the playoffs (I think) a few years back when he potted a hat trick against my Habs....and that only added to the hatred!!

He seems to have turned it around this year, and may actually be fighting, backing up his mouth, instead of turtling all the time!!

2) Claude Lemeiux I even hated him when he was with the Habs...but he is a good playoff player, and does add to the team.

3)Brian Marchment!!!!!!!

Lots of others...just don't want to bore you LOL

John Fergusen may have been hated, but he was one tough bastard. Maybe the toughest enforcer, who could also play a little hockey I have ever seen.

Most of you guys are to young to remember Gordie Howe, well big Gord was no choir boy, believe me. First of all the guy had monster hands on him and vicious elbows. There used to be an expression in the old NHL, called the Gordie Howe hat trick, 1 goal, 1 assist, and 1 fight. A very big star and popular with the fans, but feared on the ice His linemate Ted Lindsay was another tuff guy. Terrible Ted. those two, along with gentleman Sid Abel, made up one of the most famous lines in NHL history, perfect for Detroit, it was called "The Production Line". Gdamm Red Wings.

I second Dave Schultz as one of the top-hated because he couldn't play a lick.

He, Hound Kelly and Big Bird Sileski(sp) did, however, serve a very valuable purpose for those Flyer teams, although collectively hateable they were indeed.

The other Flyer that comes to mind that flies under everyone's radar is Behn Wilson - I think he was more crazy than anything and I can't ever remember him even hesitating from fisticuffs during his years in Philly and Chicago. A very avoidable opponent.

The really remarkable thing about Gordie is I remember going to games in the mid-60s (a mere youth) hearing half the crowd yelling "Get that old man".

Fifteen years later he skates into the same NHL rink skating for the Whalers and plays like he belongs and nobody gave him any shit even then.

And finally, even though it was in the WHA, anybody who could get 100+ points at age 48 is OK by me.

Another Ti Domi hater from NJ. Way to go 7beckham7

It sort of sucks though, because the prick did do a lot for charity. Before posting my hatred, I did a web search and there he is with Wayne Gretzy and some poor unfortunate dying child. Still a prick though.

Vadnais was better than people give him credit for. He had to play in the shadow of Bobby Orr at first, no comparision, but later complemented Brad Park when both were Bruins, nicely. I've seen him play many times when he was a Bruin, before that he was a California Golden Seal, give the guy a break.
