another excellent point and question ...what has been the least amount of games won to win a division?

The 1973 Mets won the East Division with a 82-79 record and went on to win the Pennant and then lose to those Swingin' A's in the Series.

The 1987 Minnesota Twins (85 wins) .... home / road splits for the regular season were 56-25 (0.691 winning percentage) at home and 29-52 (0.358 winning percentage) away.

29-52 away and they were World Champions...nuts!

WOW!! What was team ERA break down for MLB that year?

Ponson in SD gives them another solid starter ... IMHO a well positioned move for the playoff race :103631605

Just what the padres needed, a starter with an ERA over 6.0. They can't win with their four current starters hovering in the 4.0 to 5.0 range.

Kevin Towers blows, every good deal he's made came after 10 bad ones. Nothing against Giles, but Jason Bay would be leading SD in HR's and BA if they never traded him. Oliver Perez would just be an added bonus.

If NEvin was traded, why is he playing for SD right now??

because - as i have been saying every since word was announced - phil nevin is NOT going to approve this trade and he will remain a Padre until the end of the season and his contract. he will play for another team in 2006 - NOT in 2005, though

You never know...one thing I would love to see is for them to go out and stack their offense again like they did in their early years with Bichette, Walker, Castillo, etc.

I would LOVE to see them go and get a punch of power hitters nearing the end of their careers and just launch bombs. I still think that is the only way they can win there.

Another cool stat that I read about was the list of pitchers that have thrown shutouts in Colorado ... I know Glavine did it twice...others?

I think someone must have been blowing smoke out their ass...I can't see how that would make any sense at all.

Rondell White trade?????????????

No mention on the Tigers post game radio show an hour ago or local news half hour updates. Nothing on ESPN news either so I think the forum board is just a rumour someone posted.

White for Holliday only a joke post

I just looked at that link and the guy who posted it responds on his next post as saying it was a joke because he was bored.

Solid starter, are you kidding me? You are a brilliant guy, but off your rocker here.

Omitting strike shortened seasons, these were division winners with the fewest wins:

1973 NY Mets were 82-79
1984 KC Royals were 84-78
1987 MN Twins were 85-77

LOL Royalfan ... I guess I meant "starter" ... truthfully I am clueless about his record this year and was basing my statement on previous years here say. And lets leave John Rocker out of this. :drink:
