I have my opinion but I know this forum is full of opinions.

I'd like to hear them.

Lower the cost of shit and there would be no need for it. Rent, gas and everything else has skyrocketed on the past couple years.

Create real jobs and adults won't have to work at McDonalds.

Fuego I'm sure your opinion is thorough, and I'm guessing you are against it, but would like to hear your reasons either way after I say that I'm for it...

Pretty much this.

And if you raise it, it's a domino effect and slowly everything rises even more, unless govt. puts in a law in which after they raise minimum wage, employers can't rise their prices on anything for a certain time frame...

It will be great for those workers.. but the trickle down effect will be more expensive products for us all so it wont work imo

Pretty much this Hache. If you raise the wage, the price of everything goes up. So what really is the point?

I dont think its a big deal, however I am for it.

Their purchasing power wont increase all that much and its not like they gonna do something productive with that money

Easy now. Whatever happened to the free market forces where somebody else would come along and make the product cheaper.

There is absolutely no guarantee that prices will be higher, since workers will spend that money thereby increasing businesses revenues

Better than everything continuing to go up while wages stay the same. Not to mention employers will soon be able to require a degree for every position. So not only can the unfortunate barely afford basic necessities on min wage they also enter the work force buried in debt.

I also don't think it should be raised because if you do, you encourage folks earning minimum wage to stay "average." What I mean is that a fast food job is only a stepping stone. It's a stop along while you earn a trade or an education or whatever. It's not supposed to be a career. If you make it worthy of a career, why would anyone leave?

getting paid 400 bucks for 40 hours is being on easy street.

But yes you are right, everyone should strive for better then washing dishes or flipping burgers

You believe that crap? There aren't enough elite jobs for everyone. Some people will just be fast food workers forever.

I'm not talking about elite jobs. I'm talking about a job that can support your family that is not minimum wage.

This isn't a youth soccer league. Not everyone can win a prize.

My 3 biggest concearns with raising minimum wage are

(1) with the recent passing of the American care act i'm not sure small buisnesses can take another hit.

(2) people who are already on the job and trying to be loyal employees may lose their future cost of living adjustments.

(3) in the past theirs been a trend of many times when minimum wage was increased they shortly thereafter increased government/state benefits (unemployment & welfare) so that in the long run it didnt encourage deadbeats to get a job , but encoureaged people with crappy jobs to become deadbeats.

...otherwise i'm for it.

The biggest problem in this country is there arent many decent paying "unskilled" jobs left. We used to have plants , mills , factories , and people working on assembly lines. Now those jobs are outscourced to other countries.

Nowadays you go out to eat at Olive Garden and your being served by a college graduate who is 20k in school debts and has a 2 year old child at home.

There are very few here that truly understand the deep and complicated economics that goes behind raising the minimum wage. Of course the average joe is for it, because they dont grasp the big picture.

There are no longer enough decent paying jobs to support the rate at which graduates are coming out. The job market is so flooded with degrees that HR can now use it as a tool to filter out the thousands of resumes they get for low wage positions each day. We are heading toward the day where a degree is required for minimum wage positions lol.

Once the Government gets their greedy paws out of small business and working Americans pockets there is no need for an increase. Government regulations and the cost associated has made prices rise while keeping pay down. The American dream of competing in a free market has moved overseas due to the cost of producing a product.

Yeah, I agree. You really need a Master's to compete now instead of a Bachelor's.
