Yeah but the point of the All-Star game is for the guys playing the best this year to get in, not the guys that have done it for a while. Right now I feel like that should be the roster. It gives the team the best chance to win but I do agree with you.

When it started in 1933, it was the best players as voted by the writers. The managers picked the rosters in 1935-late 50's.

For the most part the fans have gotten it right lately. For all the Yankees and Red Sox on it, Hanley Ramirez will make it too. He has little fanfare.

Not sure the point is for the best half-season players to make it though.

Dan Uggla's numbers are almost identical to Utley's yet Uggla is in 4th in the voting and Utley is a runaway winner.

Where Is the Best Starter In the American League

If it's based on numbers, where is the only American League starter with an ERA under 2. He is 8-4, 1.99 ERA and a WHIP under 1. Not only should he be on the team, either he or Lee should be the starter.

And where is his team mate. 5-0, with a 2.15 ERA. True, due to injury, he is about 6 innings short from being among the lead leaders, but he is healthy now coming off 8 innings of 2 hit shutout baseball Wednesday.

The real shame is the lack of West Coast players, a lot of which is due to how late the games are on the East Coast. Still, how many can name the two pitchers above that should be on the team, without looking for them online or in the paper. A hint, one was on the American League All Star team two years ago AND you can't miss him now. He starts in 20 minutes.

One other thing you can't forget is that every team needs one player on the team. This keeps players off the team that should be on the team but hopefully it should be easier this year with some of the best players on teams like Florida, Tampa and Oakland, teams that are way ahead of last years pace in the standings. The magic word for all of this is PARITY.

Right when I read this thread this morning and read the first line I knew I had left of Duchscherer, if that's how you spell it, and I realized that was a mistake haha.

Harden, who I think is the other guy you're talking about, hasn't pitched enough innings yet so I wouldn't put him in there. It's the same reason I have Joe Crede starting over A-Rod.

Also it is supposed to be who is the best player in the league at this point; for this half season. That's who an All-Star is for one year. Not who has had the better career.

Also don't think Carlos Quentin is a one year wonder. He has always had an immense amount of talent.

Yes I agree but many would still argue he's one of, or the, best defensive third basemen in baseball. Grace said it this past weekend and Baseball Tonight has also made the statement. He has been way to lackadaisical on his throws causing him to throw them away.
