The lowest SB rating in 10 years......& everyone I knew thought it was the most boring SB ever, & most had bet the Pats.

People complain about the rules which have been progressively favoring offenses for 30 years, but when you get a defensive struggle in the SB, everyone complains.

Would I want every game I watch to unfold like last night? No, but I also found the game to be compelling and exciting. Which defense was going to crack first? That's the great thing about football is that a game can unfold in many different ways. Too much offense and homogeneity in style of play is boring and gets stale.

It was refreshing and entertaining to watch such a sharp shift in the other direction.

Just my 2 cents.

I would attribute this to 3 reasons.

1. Low scoring

2. Pats overkill...4x in 6 years, just stale for a lot of people. What more can be said about this team? Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are pretty, pretty good.

3. And I think this is the biggest one, but the Rams just have almost no fan base whatsoever. This is the first of the Pats 9 SB appearances where the stadium was FILLED with Patriot fans. It was almost a home game and some of that translated to the ratings. Rams just don't have much following even with how big the LA market is.

I agree with all 3........I was watching the weather channel on Saturday, & the one of their reporters stated he's only been seeing Pats fans, & like one or two Rams......he said Pats fans travel well........& most in the stadium would be Pats fans, like a home game.

What I'd like to see is specifically how viewership waned as the game went on. Admittedly, even that wouldn't tell the full story as even as people lost interest, it wouldn't necessarily be reflected by tvs being turned off. I suspect many party goers would just get into conversations and stop watching. CBS is keeping that info under lock and key. They are merely talking about shows after the game, which doesn't tell the full story.

Maybe the commercials and entertainment had something to do with that too, remember much if not most of the audience doesn't care about the game to begin with.

There was one commercial that made me laugh, they're getting worse every year. Even Bud went political, totally boring. Maybe it's because advertisers are afraid to offend someone, IDK.

Are there any Rams fans? Maybe that was a contributor too. I know it sounded like a home game for the Patriots so they didn't travel to Atlanta

Finally, with the casual fans nationwide wanting the Patriots to lose, their total domination of the Rams offense during the Rams 1st eight possessions didn't help.

I know we loved it baby, Belichick rules, and you can't change that :)

I wouldn't want to change it Willie as that was the side I was on for the game, and thanks to you, took Michel to score the 1st TD of the game and for the Patriots, not to mention quite a few Patriots props.

With that said, I also understand the group at this forum and how many can't seem to comprehend anything beyond the gambling aspect.

Yes, you're correct on the commercials. They started going downhill starting with the Ravens/NY Giants Superbowl (I call it the Dot Com Superbowl as that's what most of the commercials were on). Since that time, we have been lucky to even have 2-3 entertaining commercials. About the only one I chuckled on was the Siri/Amazon commercial with Harrison Ford. The WeatherTech commercial I liked just because of the adorable Golden Retriever. Other than that, you can have the rest.

I was getting multiple texts from friends hoping that Maroon 5 could save this debacle of a game, but they fell way below the bar (I still don't know what was up with the taking off the shirt thing...Adam Levine seemed pretty desperate to me).

As for the game, no need to repeat what's already been said. Virtually nothing spectacular on either side of the ball as far as I could see. No big hits, no big catches (not even the one by Gronk was that big of a deal), few big runs, few sacks, lots of bad passes, overthrows, and balls being thrown away. I think it's fair to say that both coaches played the game so close to the vest that it made for a completely boring game.

My wife had to work and she crashed the door open at the halfway point of the 3rd quarter and screamed "Who's winning!? What's the score?!". She saw a look on my face as I rolled my eyes and said this is one of the worst games I've ever seen and told her it was 3-3. She said "seriously...wtf?!". I had over $2k bet on the game (probably in the top 5 of money wagered on a single event for me) and I was literally just browsing the internet, going out on our patio, and organizing some papers. I just told my wife to let me know if either team looked like they might be threatening to score. I can't recall a time ever having so much on a game and having so little interest in it.

But thanks Patriots, for at least not exposing me to that kind of a game and then having my pocketbook a lot lighter. The winning at least was a nice consolation. I get that you're a homer, so there's that fandom thing that goes along with your wagers. I realize the most important thing to you was the Patriots winning.

P.S. Just about every conversation at my gym yesterday was about how bad that game was (so not too concerned about posters here saying how "compelling" it was).
