Wladimir Klitschko, the closest thing we have to a heavyweight champion, will defend his several alphabet titles against Tony Thompson in Hamburg, Germany, on Saturday. It will take a very unusual circumstance indeed -- namely an upset by Thompson, who is at best a modestly talented challenger -- to generate any lasting excitement around the fight, at least in the United States. Such is the state of the heavyweight class these days that even Klitschko, clearly the division's top fighter, is still seen by many as somewhat vulnerable -- even against 36-year-old Thompson, who didn't start fighting until he was 27. Klitschko's three career KO losses have a lot to do with that, of course, and even with the progress he has made under Emanuel Steward, he remains, in the eyes of many, one overhand right from disaster. One only has to recall the way he shuddered at every contact made by Sam Peter in their fight several years ago to justify that perception...........

.........I think this is on HBO along with 2-3 other fights.........IT IS A MATINEE MATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!..4pm or so......

Didn't see your thread. IMO you should have bet Thompson by KO. His hands are to slow to win a decision I think. EVERYONE has a punchers chance against Wlad though. Thompson's chances basically come down to his chin. He's not fast and is pretty easy to hit but maybe if he can get the fight later he can wear Wlad down. If not he could get KO'ed early.

Yeah that's why Wlad has been knocked out 3 times in huge upsets.

It's not a bad bet but if Thompson wins it should be by KO. Wlad probably wins but you never know with him. He has collapsed a couple of times when other guys gave resistence. The question is of course, can Thompson do that. it will all come down to his ability to take a shot because if he can't take a shot I don't think he will be around long. If he gets the fight deep though he has a shot IMO.

Riiiight.

Thompson by KO +860 is a nice lottery ticket. Thompson is a big lefty, like Corrie Sanders, who was able to land his left at will on big Wlad.

Hmmmm...German crowd here may be on American fighter`s side due to past "disagreements"..looks like Wlad planning a clown`s entrance...crowd relatively quiet for HVY Chp fight...reminds me of Tyson- Buster in Japan..

Oh shit..forgot we fought the Germans too...

Thompson seems to have a solid chin though. If he can survive the next few rounds, he might have a shot at landing a bomb. He connected a few times in the 1st and it shook Wlad up.

So yeah, Wlad is dominating, but not in -600 fashion.

Wlad shouldn't be allowed to paw and measure with his left like that. He's clever with it, though... often looks like sloppy jab.

Your bet's not looking half-bad right now. Thompson looks like he may be able to go the distance, and Wlad is typically exhausted during the championship rounds.

Wish I'd thrown a $50 on the +860 KO prop.
