The difference with that game 2 years ago was that NE was down 1 and the safety still kept them within a FG.

Exactly, they needed just an FG to tie it up. Driving to say the 40 for a shot at an FG is a far likelier chance than onside kicking and recovering at say the 30, but then needing a TD. And you can onside kick, most teams just punt the safety but you can line up for a kickoff.

Vaulted - You must of bet the prop that there would be a safety. Why would you want to go from needing a FG to go to overtime to having to have a TD.
