Col, nice post about the IQ. I too, have a fairly high one and can't spell all that well. BTW, can drugs and alcohol lower your IQ? People say your IQ stays the same throughout your life. I disagree. I am certain that I was sharper in college pre-narcotics.

The Wechsler test is the most standardized and widely used exam. Average test results range from 90 - 110:

A score below 70 indicate mental retardation.
A score of 130 or higher is usually considered gifted, although different programs set different levels for this classification.
A score of 165 or higher is usually considered genius.
IQ tests measure a specific functioning ability and may not accurately asses a person's talents or future potential. Results of any intelligence test may be culturally biased.

Someone's IQ doesn't matter to me. How smart you are is a God given gift. What you do with what you have is the important part.

Also why do people make fun of typos and mispellings of others? In a gambling forum I want to read what gamblers think not what an English teacher thinks.

good point raiders. Spelling errors or even grammatical mistakes do not correlate to someone who does not possess intelligent and insightful thoughts. People should focus on the message, and not nitpick about the little stuff. Merry X mas.

TEASER GURU -- how do you spell "clicks" meaning an "in group" of people.

sr muny's post is accurate. an IQ of 158 is meaningless without knowing which test it is. when i was youger the older Stanford Binet test did not measure above 135 ( as sr muny points out the WISC is now the most highly regarded ).

TG i believe one loses about 1 IQ point for each year one ages beyong 40.

i do not believe drug use has any permanent effect on IQ after the affects have cleared the system.

believe me when i say i have a lot of expertise on both subjects. anyone tried GHB ??

Finally, we're getting to the root of the problem. Spelling and grammar in the forums! Haha.

Could it be argued that poor grammar/spelling eventually leads to immature and uncivilized forums? Could it also be argued that poor grammar/spelling eventually leads to an immature and uncivilized society? After all, if people refuse to follow the rules of language, doesn't it make sense that they'll eventually refuse to follow the rules of government, society, etc?

"I'm sick of reading all the bullshit posted by many of the freaks here and there."

some time ago, i read a thread linking to an article from a canadian newspaper of tv channel on poster's joey c's scam. Really interesting read, anyone know that link or the original thread???

It was about how this know it all, hollier than thou, offshore guru joey c scammed pretty much everyone in his affluent islamic community out of millions of dollars, sent it offshore, then claimed he was blackmailed by shaddy unnamed figures to send the money to them. Then after a couple of years in jail, or less, he was out and very well off indeed, and an owner of the book he had once claimed the alleged blackmailers where using as a front. Of course he's dissappeared from this site like the rat he is after being exposed, but i am sure the feds would love to track his ass down.

Holy crap, JackDee. I have heard a lot of wrong versions of that story but what you posted has to be by far the most off target.

The real story is fascinating. A Cliff's Notes version is that Salim Damji, a compulsive gambler, tried to get rich by claiming that he had a toothwhitening product that he was selling to Colgate. When he was able to get millions of dollars from investors in his religious community, he started gambling hundreds of thousands of dollar at a time offshore at sportsbooks like Olympic and Joey C's sportsbook, BC Bets. When this guy lost something like $50 million+ Canadian and was arrested, Joey C moved all of his money out of Costa Rica. When investigators hired by the victims came to Costa Rica, all they were able to get was the $365,000 Canadian left in Damji's wagering account and a $1.1 million Canadian bank wire that was sent to Joey C without explicit instructions to be deposited in Damji's account.

Investigators, victims and Canadian authorities have tried to pin their hopes on money laundering, but it really doesn't add up. What appears to have happened is that Joey C developed a relationship with a compulsive gambler who had access to a tremendous amount of other people's money, and when that person went broke, Joey C was the chief beneficiary.

I am a bit unclear on how CRIS and its former owner, RS fits into this, but I believe that Joey C needed CRIS' backing to book these large wagers initially, and RS helped Joey do that. Now RS is in prison. I'm not sure if Joey C supposedly owes RS money.

Where all of this fits on the message board is that Joey C never willingly divulged that he was the owner of BC Bets. He did shady stuff like posting SBR ratings when BC Bets had their rating raised and posting negative things about Panamanian banking because he was operating in another country.

Nick, thanks for the elaborate post. You are saying Joey C is not Damji then? If no one else thinks so, then i must have gotten it wrong. It's a fascinating story nevertheless.

I always knew JoeyC was part of BC Bets. The millions they won off the Canadian kept their rating down for a long time and even a brief trip to the Black List while everyone tried to figure out if they would get to keep all of the millions won from him. Who knew at the time how it would play out?

There is no doubt that this tiny little shop shacked up with CRIS for so long and even chased winners into CRIS made a break into the B group of books with their windfall profit.

I might be at odds with some heavy weight posters but I like Joey C. If RS or the Mick says Joey C beat them out of money then all bets are dam sure off.
