UNC's starting QB is also hurt, however Sexton is a good replacement. Should be a close game.

plaged from ESPN:

5. UConn can't be killed.

If you want to beat the Huskies, you'd better step on their throats when you can. Because if you let them hang around, they're going to find a way to win in the end. One of the most resilient teams anywhere, UConn added another chapter to its gritty saga on Friday night, Down 21-10 in the third quarter at Louisville and having just fumbled in their own territory, the Huskies came up with a defensive stand, then rallied for a 26-21 win. They did it despite losing starting quarterback Tyler Lorenzen and several others to injury, and despite being almost doubled on total yardage.

Zach Fraser: http://www.courant.com/services/newspaper/...0,6919455.story

Yes, once sophomore backup quarterback Zach Frazer worked off the rust, he showed flashes of what earned him a scholarship to Notre Dame.

"I was just impressed with his composure and his leadership," Edsall said. "He just did an unbelievable job — unbelievable. On the sideline he was helping the offensive linemen and everything else."

Frazer was probably the worst thing that could have happened to the Louisville defense. He forced it to cut back on the blitz and pull out of some man coverage.

"Yeah, because he can throw it," Edsall said.

Frazer's final numbers (8 of 15, 90 yards, one TD) won't illustrate that, but the 13-yard, third-quarter touchdown pass he coolly zinged to Darius Butler was a clear indication that he can. The pass could not have been thrown any better. And just as impressive was the way Butler handled it — right on the fingertips.

"The guy caught a string down there in the red zone," Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe said. "It was a good job on their part. They got away from some of the passes they'd thrown earlier in the game where we could get pressure on them."

The TD pulled the Huskies to 21-17 with 4:19 to go in the third quarter. Then after Tony Ciaravino's 29-yard field goal pulled UConn to 21-20, the defense stepped up.

Lawrence Wilson intercepted a late fourth-quarter pass and scored from 45 yards to give the Huskies the lead. Then on the Cardinals' final drive, Robert Vaughn picked off Hunter Cantwell's desperation deep pass to seal the improbable victory.

This could be an improbable season.

As unfortunate as it was to lose one of their leaders in Lorenzen, the Huskies clearly have a capable quarterback to replace him. The Huskies will lose the element of a running QB, but Frazer can throw downfield, which will stretch the defense — taking some of the load off Donald Brown, who already has 906 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns — another reason for Edsall to be feeling pretty good.

NC QB "Stiff" Sexton:
Year Team Att Comp Comp% Yds YAtt TD Int
2006-2007 NCAR 136 57 41.9 840 6.2 4 8
2007-2008 NCAR 1 1 100.0 9 9.0 0 0

http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college...ry/1237657.html

"Sexton lined up for a play during practice last week, and admittedly threw a bad pass in Hakeem Nick’s direction. As usual, the standout wide receiver made a great play to pull the ball in. When Sexton offered his thanks to Nicks for saving him, his teammate replied, “Cam, I’m here to bring you back to life.” HA!

Do I like a relatively unknown QB going into NC, a place where the Tarheels beat McNeese State by 8? Not so much, but Frazer is not a complete unknown, I thought he had a good skill-set when he went to ND:

FlaInt'l/MDTnSt

i think i am going to have to go against you and take florida atlantic instead of mid tenn. st.

if you go against the public (using vegasinsider.com) you would have won (pushed once) every single espn mid week (tue. wed. thur. fri.) game this year....

i can't go against it until it loses......

you going to be at poker wednesday?<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

yeah, I understand you taking FLA ATL, and I liked them at first. But the information I'm getting on FLA ATL is a strong 'fade them, they may have quit on the year...', it's probably part of the reason for the line move. There is some pretty good money trying to middle this one, and that is another reason it went from -1 to +3.5 then will probably settle at +2. MdTnSt doesn't have the strongest of HFA's, but I do like Craddock. I'm staying put b/c I feel he shines tonight in the spotlight. MdTn was leading @ KY until the 4th q, and I give them a lot of credit putting themselves in a position to win on the road against one of the better defenses in the country:
Record Rank
Total Yards 227.5 4
Passing Yards 155 13
Rushing Yards 72.5 12
Points Allowed 5.5 1
Field Goal % 20 4

KY hasn't played much of anyone yet so these numbers are a bit biased. But I'll probably be on them with 17+ vs 'bama. I don't like siding with the public, and typically I'm on the other side before the public even bets, but I do get a lot of info from locals and some others inside the online world. I think the fact that fading the public during the midweek games has done so well makes it a little suspect in the short term, it's <due> to regress. There's a correlation based on what the LVSC etc. uses in line construction and line movements but it's beyond me to try to explain it right now. I'm interested in the total, and I'm not real sure what it will open but I figure it should be about 45.5, and may open 43,44.

--------------------------------------------------------------

methinks something is amiss with this total, the move is quick to the over, but I'm thinking it might be air to get the same followers on the FLA move to the spread

Minn is about 75th on Defense,
Mich State is about 60th
UAB is about 100th
so I'm not seeing FLAInt'ls lack of scoring as it being the defense they are playing against.

MdTnSt has played:
Ark St is about 50th
Ky is a top 10 defense but against weaklings
Md is about 80 but have been lucky in the 'not scored on' dept
Troy is good vs the pass but not vs the run or scoring so about 60-70th

I hate my chances on unders on the midweek games but I'm looking at more than a free FG. They must like the numbers from last year which I don't put nearly as much emphasis on, starting week 6. They probably come back the other way at 51-52, but then again the public probably hits the over per usual at their +60% rate. I do know that a couple of crews LOVE the Arkansas State team total over, but my guys have proven themselves over time and they feel that FLA Atl comes out flat, may have quit. I've spent way too much time on this game, but I'm thinking this might turn up the same way as my NFL over last night, going against the # and the sharper money. You will see the vast majority of the forum guys taking Fla Atlantic and the over, that is for sure.

Lorenzo has been absolutely awful this year. Slow reads, bad decisions, throws into crowds, a pickoff and sack machine.

The backup looked smooth in the 2nd half vs Louisville, he seems to be a way better passer. With UConn's running game, they only need a good passer to keep the defense honest.

The backup is better.

from your avatar I take it you are in Connecticut, which is good since I'm in the middle of Texas and have to rely on 2nd hand information for a lot. I was hearing the same thing you are saying, he keeps the d from putting 9 in the box a lot of the time b/c he's got a far more accurate arm on the deep ball, and it's not like he's a frosh greenhorn that has no reps so he should be decent as far as not fumbling, getting blind-sided. I see this as a team on a mission, the only reason North Carolina is favored by a touch is b/c more people will actually bet on NC winning by a touch.
