better luck agains the Italians...we need a win and I think we will come out playing inspired soccer and get that win we so deparately need and show the rest of the world we can play a little soccer...i mean football

What I never got is why does the world care about such rankings? The seedings for the WC were determined based on average finish over the last 2 WCs. US was in line for a seed because many speculated it would be last 3 WCs, but since US finished last in 98, but made the Round of 16 in 94 we got screwed. Mexico made the same round in 94 tournament so they might not have gotten a seed.

Everybody knows the fifa rankings are meaningless

One of the reasons US was such a big dog betting wise was the group they landed in. If they could have switched spots with other mid tier teams like say Croatia or Mexico then they would have had a much better shot at getting out of the first round. Having to play both Italy and the Czechs is an uphill battle

US is still not among the worlds elite but they are making progress
